Praktische aanpak van een rookstopconsultatie 05/11/12 Bijscholing Domus Medica Key Point Smoked tobacco is one of the most addictive commonly used drugs. Anthony et al published their findings from data from the National Comorbidity Study on the dependence of users of various substances. The sample (8098 total) was of the civilian population aged 15 to 54 years. The subjects were interviewed, and their drug dependence was determined using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Third Revision (DSM-III-R) criteria, which require evidence of 9 manifestations of dependence. Smoked tobacco emerges as the most addictive of the drugs studied; in every age group, dependence among users was as high or higher than any of the other drugs. In addition, it emerged that younger smokers were less likely to develop dependence than older smokers. Reference Anthony JC, Warner LA, Kessler RC.
