Mother Teresa was born in 1910 and joined the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1928, where she was named Sister Teresa and developed a passion for helping the poor and supporting children's education. In 1946, she started a school in Calcutta and began caring for the destitute and starving, rescuing 37 children from war in Beirut in 1982. She received honorary U.S. citizenship in 1996 for donating $192,000 to support India's poor.
