Daniel Mosunich has over 30 years of experience in K-12 education as a teacher, principal, and district administrator in California. He currently serves as the Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Program Development for the Atascadero Unified School District, where he leads the implementation of common core standards, assessment programs, and data-driven processes to improve student outcomes. Mosunich has a passion for strengthening learning for all students, especially traditionally underachieving groups, through vision, professional development, and evidence-based decision making.

Creating a context for student growth
Common Core Curriculum and Instruction
Co-wrote the district Local Control Accountability Program (LCAP) that included
needs assessments, progress monitoring, and county approval.
Developed a common core standards professional learning program for
administrators, teachers and support staff focused on multi-year incremental
steps leading to full implementation.
Led professional learning workshops for principals and teachers in order to
implement the common core mathematical practices and English language
arts anchor standards including hyperlinked mathematical procedure and
anchor standard rubrics.
Guided the implementation of the Basal Alignment Project (BAPS) to support the
Open Court English language arts program.
Led the implementation of the common core math resource, Eureka Math (Engage
New York) at grades K-8 and its second year of implementation.
Facilitated development of an innovative secondary ELD program focused on
addressing academic needs of long-term English language learners using
Kinsella’s English 3D program and Pearson’s iLit.
Facilitated development of an implementation plan for integrated and designated
ELD strategies at the school level.
Assessment
Participated in the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium In-Person Scale
Setting, Dallas, TX in which cut points were recommended for SBAC testing.
Led the implementation of the CAASPP testing program resulting in consistent
administration of the test and leading to meeting the participation
expectations and use of student results
Provided administrative training in understanding the SBAC testing system and its
connection with the common core standards.
Directed a comprehensive system of accountability including state mandated testing
and local assessment programs
Developed and implemented an English language arts and math benchmarking
assessments, with goals and monitoring systems resulting aligned to the new
standards.

use for state and local tests and ongoing classroom use.
Developed the use of Aeries Analytics and corresponding warning point systems to
quickly monitor student performance.
Collaborated with high school math and English departments to identify strategies to

Led the use of data in setting school and system-level goals through the use
individual Data Talks.
Developed a data-based monitoring system for AMAO expectations leading to
results exceeding federal expectations in ELD growth and redesignations.
