-Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE) Health Education Higher Education Collaborative.
Meet monthly with other health education professionals on health literacy issues and best practices in
health education for K-12 teachers
-Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE) Physical Activity Committee. First meeting was July,
2008. Committee work with seven PE professionals and DOE contacts to determine long term projects
to increase physical activity with the youth in MA
-Professional development work, curriculum mapping, and teacher mentoring with the Physical
Education and Health Education teachers at Boston English High School and Trotter Elementary.
SPECIAL INITIATIVE (FALL 2005-SUMMER 2007)
-Developed an online certificate program in Physical Education, Health, and Coaching spring 2005. The
16-credit certificate program was approved by the faculty and Provost. First class in the series,
Curriculum and Special Methods in Physical Education, was offered Summer 2006.Website with
Distance Education was launched January, 2007. Students admitted to the Certificate Program and I
advised all the students. Developed a second online class, Applied Nutrition during 2006-2007 academic
year. Worked with four other faculty members to develop classes for the Certificate.
SELECTED BOSTON UNIVERSITY WORK
I. Participation with the School of Education PT3 grant, Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use
Technology, a project assisting faculty to model the design and use of instructional technology in
support of teaching and learning (http://emt.bu.edu/bupt3/index.htm). Selected to be one of the
faculty participants. Extensive technology work with still and video images. Developed
courseinfo websites (online content for courses) and developed a pilot website. Attended
monthly training sessions and weekly meetings with technology assistant with the PT3 grant.
Learned and became proficient with several software programs including advanced Word, Excel,
iMovie, Dreamweaver. Presented multi-media technology final project.
II. Guided professional development for school systems where Boston University students were
placed for their student teaching. On site visits to observe teachers and programs, evaluation
work with colleagues, and promotion of programs.
III. Submitted two grants. Grant #1 Title:“Physical Education and Physical Fitness for Urban
Schools or P.E. for U.S.” Research questions concerning the physical fitness levels of urban
children and the value of small versus large space instruction on fitness levels. Grant #2 Title:
“Interdisciplinary Moving and Learning: A Partnership of Physical Educators and Classroom
Teachers Teaching Math With Third and Fourth Graders.” An inter-disciplinary study to
reinforce mathematical knowledge and content.
IV. Research work with the Tuesday-Thursday Physical Education Program where K-6 Boston
school children from the Gardner School are bused to Boston University.

(In 1977, the Boston University School of Education and a selection of Boston-area
school districts, social service agencies, and overseas universities came together to form a
consortium for the mutual exchange of expertise and training. Since that time,
Consortium school systems and social service agencies have provided SED students with
a variety of settings in which to pursue student-teaching, school-based counseling
experiences, and administrative internships.)

faculty, staff and students on recycling efforts within the SED community.
January 2006 Appointed to the Dean’s Executive Online Program Committee. Special assignment is to
work with two Associate Deans, Assistant to the Dean, and the Educational Media
Technology Director at the School of Education to develop initiatives for online
certificates and education courses
2005-2009 Wellness Committee Member for all an all-university council. Meet
monthly with representatives from across Boston University. Director of Residence Life
leads the committee and we all come together to share resources and plan health/wellness
initiatives
Spring 2005 Collaborative work with the School of Education and Sargent Center
to develop and implement new initiatives
Fall 2004-2005 Healthy eating/wellness initiative. Monthly meetings with faculty from Sargent College
of Allied Health Sciences. Meetings to determine best means of educating our college
students about this issue.
Fall 2004-2005 Appointed to Dean’s Website Evaluation Committee. Special assignment includes
evaluating and revising the School of Education website. Monthly meeting and projects.
Fall 2004-2005 Faculty Technology Committee. Appointed to work with the Educational Media
Specialist at the School of Education and two other colleagues on projects to assist
faculty with technology. First project was a faculty user survey (September 2004).
2002-2004 Participant of technology grant awarded to the School of Education, PT-3, “Preparing
Tomorrow’s Teachers for Technology.” Hands-on technology training for teachers
teaching teachers including weekly sessions with a technology mentor and monthly
meetings. Developed skills to use technology more effectively in teaching/learning and to
enhance pedagogy
Fall 2001-2009 Licensure committee for the School of Education. Involved with learning, and
implementing new state regulations
Fall 2001-2003 School of Education representative to Faculty Council at Boston University. Bi-monthly

Teaching and Education Children
Through Health and How to Exercise and Reach Target Scores in
Physical Education.” Funding to purchase heart rate monitors for the Tuesday-Thursday
Physical Education Program and BU physical education/health licensure students.
May 14, 2004 Formal speech by a graduating senior from the Human Movement
Program at the School of Education Robing Ceremony, His speech was selected as a
testimony to faculty and he spoke about his four-year growth as a young professional and
my involvement as his advisor, teacher, and mentor.
Fall 2003 Granted a sabbatical to research, write, work with practitioners in the field, and conduct
professional development initiatives.
Winter, 2000 Recognized on Women in Sport Day for work in the local schools to raise awareness
about women in sport.
