6. Mood Board analysis1. Genre- The first of my mood boards shows the genre characteristic's of rock. The mood
boards features rock bands, style and iconography. The pictures of the mood board that I
chose, display the key genre characteristics of rock. The main characteristics of rock
shown on the mood board is that rock differs from mainstream genres through using
darker colours and has themes of rebellion and violence against mainstream society.
Rock allows people to be themselves and promotes liberty to the individual.
2. Styling – The second of my mood boards represent the rock genres style through
showing fashion trends, hairstyle and makeup. The fashion shown in the moodboard
generally consist of dark, worn clothing which gives the rock style a distinctive look. For
example people that follow the rock genre wear stereotypically black leather, ripped
jeans, have long hair and have tattoos. Females wear extensive amounts of eye makeup
to enhance the depth of their eyes and stand out from the crowd.
3. Mise en Scene – The third mood board displays the mise en scene of what rock stars
use in their music videos and when performing live. From this mood board it is highly
recognisable that dark settings are used with low key lighting to create a dreary and
depressing mood and atmosphere at the start of the song or throughout. However when
the music reaches its climax high key lighting is used to represent the now more up beat
mood that is being created through the use of heavy drumming, guitar strings and vocals
by the artists. This creates an excitable and thrilling mood and atmosphere.
4. Logos- The Fourth mood board shows various different rock band logos used for
marketing. Audiences recognise a band or artists motif or logo which helps to increase
sales of the artist. This mood board is useful as it will help my research and planning
when building my band identity which works alongside rock genre characteristics, style
and mise en scene.
