Molecular Ornament Lab
In this lab activity you will be making molecular ornaments for our tree.
Extra credit may be given for molecules that are related to the Christmas
season (i.e. - angelic acid reminds me of the angels that top many Christmas
trees) Keep in mind that we only have a limiter number or atoms in our
model kits so you can’t choose to build any really large molecule.
Write the name of the molecular compound that you decided to make
Draw the structural formula for your molecule.
Is your molecule polar or non polar?
Try to draw a 3 – Dimensional representation of you molecule
What is this molecule used for and why is it important?
Research more about this molecule and tell me any interesting facts or historical
information about this molecule or the circumstances of its discovery.
2. Extra Credit: Build another molecule on your own at home. You can use any
materials you want. Many craft stores sell Styrofoam balls that would be perfect for this.
