Editor's Notes
Move to manage hosting to resolve the issues we had at the beginning of last academic year.
Lots of work was done over the summer to make this a success
This meant that there was no opportunity to do our usual system upgrade
You may have noticed MOLE is running nice and fast now and nothing else has changed
The plan is to upgrade at the end of 2014 to the latest version
This will fix some of the issues that exist now (and bring in new ones) and bring in a range of system upgrades that you don’t see but make things better
There will be a range of new and improved features. We’re not going to look at them all, but we’ll take a look at a few key ones.
The look and feel of My Grades has been updated. Students can now view feedback by clicking View Feedback.
In calculated formula questions, instructors can select the number of decimals or significant figures for the correct answers generated by the system.
There is an updated portfolio tool.
Portfolios are now accessed from the global navigation and have a new authoring canvas. Instructors can create portfolio assignments.
There is a new student preview
This is built in, rather than a 3rd party extension like the current one
Works almost the same, however has a nice feature to clear the data for the demo student
We will be leaving the Add Test Student feature in as well for more advanced testing.
Big new feature – built with the UK in mind. UK institutons were heavily involved in the consultation for this so the tool would fit with how we mark here.
Instructors can hide student names from submitted assignments for anonymous grading.
Instructors can delegate grading to specific users.
Once we are into the new academic year, we will begin extensive testing on the new version of MOLE, and we would like people to get involved.
If you fancy getting involved in testing the new version, keep an eye out on the MOLE users mailing list (info on enrolling on the MOLE web pages) for more info and an invite to the trial.
