Our Current State- Data Needs
• 50 Students comprised 75% of the school’s total discipline referrals for
the 2017-2018 school year
• 47 of the those students were males
• 32% of all referrals were related to physical agression
• 42 of the 50 students were below average on the Reading Florida
Standards Assessment
What behaviors are displayed?
Vision for Boys to Men
• Reduce discipline referrals by 20%
• Each student will show a learning gain in FSA Reading or one year
of growth in Iready
• Each student will show a decrease in absences compared to the
previous school year
Impact on Student Achievement
• Social skills development
• Increased academic learning time
• Improved student attendance
• All students will show learning gains over the previous school year
• Increased critical thinking skills
What We Need From You
• A commitment of at least one day per week on campus
• One day per quarter for an off campus reward
• Tutoring assistance
Activities and Strategies
• Complete Too Good For Violence during the first semester
• Complete Connect with Kids during the second semester
• Compete in team sports
• Community service projects
• Participate in team building activities
Organization & Timeline

• T-Shirts for each student and Mentor
• Shirt, tie, and slacks for students that cannot afford to purchase

Module 4 Preparing the Presentation

  • 1. Welcome Future Mentors Preparing the Presentation Terrance Barriner EL 5053 Community Engagement, Outreach, and Collaboration August 5, 2018
  • 2. Our Current State- Data Needs • 50 Students comprised 75% of the school’s total discipline referrals for the 2017-2018 school year • 47 of the those students were males • 32% of all referrals were related to physical agression • 42 of the 50 students were below average on the Reading Florida Standards Assessment
  • 3. What behaviors are displayed?
  • 4. Vision for Boys to Men • Reduce discipline referrals by 20% • Each student will show a learning gain in FSA Reading or one year of growth in Iready • Each student will show a decrease in absences compared to the previous school year
  • 5. Impact on Student Achievement • Social skills development • Increased academic learning time • Improved student attendance • All students will show learning gains over the previous school year • Increased critical thinking skills
  • 6. What We Need From You • A commitment of at least one day per week on campus • One day per quarter for an off campus reward • Tutoring assistance
  • 7. Activities and Strategies • Complete Too Good For Violence during the first semester • Complete Connect with Kids during the second semester • Compete in team sports • Community service projects • Participate in team building activities
  • 9. Needed Resources • Too Good For Violence Materials • Connect With Kids Materials • T-Shirts for each student and Mentor • Shirt, tie, and slacks for students that cannot afford to purchase
  • 10. Proposed Training • St. Lucie County volunteer training • Too Good for Violence training • Connect with Kids training
  • 11. Evaluation Process Goals • Reduce discipline referrals by 20% • Each student will show a learning gain in FSA Reading or one year of growth in Iready • Each student will show a decrease in absences compared to the previous school year Evaluation • Review of discipline data • Review Iready & FSA data • Review attendance data
