Modest Proposal Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of a "Modest Proposal" presents a unique set of challenges. The
difficulty lies not only in addressing the serious subject matter with a satirical tone but also in
striking the delicate balance between irony and sincerity. Crafting a successful essay requires a
deep understanding of the historical context and literary conventions surrounding the term
"Modest Proposal," as well as the ability to weave together humor and social commentary.
The challenge further intensifies when one attempts to emulate the style of renowned works in
this genre, such as Jonathan Swift's famous essay. The need to maintain a consistent voice,
employ biting satire, and convey a critical message within the constraints of the chosen format
demands a high level of skill and finesse. Moreover, addressing a contemporary issue while
drawing inspiration from a centuries-old literary tradition adds an additional layer of complexity
to the task.
To successfully navigate these challenges, a writer must possess not only a strong command of
language but also a keen awareness of the social and political nuances inherent in the topic.
Crafting a thought-provoking and engaging essay requires a careful blend of wit, intelligence,
and a profound understanding of the underlying issues.
In conclusion, tackling a "Modest Proposal" essay is no small feat. It demands a writer's utmost
creativity, historical insight, and rhetorical prowess to create a piece that is not only intellectually
stimulating but also socially impactful. If the task feels overwhelming, remember that help is
available. Similar essays and much more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net, providing the

Neoclassical Theory Of Keynesian Theory
ECOP2011
Where are the Neoclassical elements in the Neoclassical Keynesian synthesis? In
what way does it differ from the Cambridge (UK) view of Keynesian economics?
Intro
The Neoclassical Keynesian synthesis contains theoretical principles and ideas from
both the Neoclassical school of economic thought and Keynes General Theory. The
UK Cambridge Post Keynesian view of economics also contains elements from both
these schools, yet the Neoclassical Keynesian synthesis and the UK Cambridge
Keynesian bodies of economic thought differ in their views, methods and ideas. The
two schools utilise different models to reach the similar conclusion that the economy
will tend towards full employment equilibrium in a long run situation a conclusion
that complements a Neoclassical ideology or perspective of capitalism as a market
based organisation of society s production, distribution and consumption. It can be
argued, then, that although there are several examples of Neoclassical principles
within the Neoclassical Keynesian synthesis, that the general acceptance of a general
equilibrium situation in the long run is the defining Neoclassical feature. The paper
will first examine the Neoclassical elements in the synthesis school of thought, with
reference to its defining IS/LM model, the Phillips Curve and the Solow Swan
Growth model. The UK Cambridge Keynesian school rejects Hicks and Hansens IS
/LM model, and instead utilises proportionately more Keynesian ideas in its body of
Brutus and his bad decisions and misfortunes
Brutus: A Tragic Hero The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare depicts
a tragic hero, or one who has high standing and causes his own downfall. The tragic
hero is Brutus, and he makes multiple and ultimately fatal mistakes that lead to his
enlightenment and then his death. Brutus death is the result of many misfortunes,
including being herded into the conspiracy and thus aiding in the death of Caesar,
hearing of the death of his loyal wife, and waging a war against Rome. Brutus
negative characteristics are his flawed reasoning and bad judgment. While still
planning Caesar s murder, Ciceros name is brought up and it is suggested that he be
included in the conspiracy. However, Brutus is against this thought, saying that...

And you shall speak/ in the same pulpit whereto I am going. / After my speech is
ended (945). This is a bad decision on his part because by allowing Antony to speak
last, he has allowed Antony to use his words against him. As seen in the text, it is
much easier to persuade when speaking last than when speaking first. After being
chased out of Rome alongside Cassius, another misfortune is his fight with him
over money problems. Brutus claims that Cassius has become greedy. He is
furious that Cassius is not helping him even though they are allies. However, the
money that Brutus wants is actually the money that Cassius is taking from the
soldiers who buy their ranks. While he could just as easily do the same, he defines
himself as too noble a person to do such a thing. Let me tell you, Cassius, you
yourself/ Are much condemned to have an itching palm (966). Cassius is offended,
and tells Brutus that he should be glad that they are allies. Brutus enlightenment
occurs around the time he commits suicide. Right before his demise, with his final
dying breath, he mentions Caesar to put him at ease. Farewell, good Strato Caesar,
now be still; / I killed thee with half so good a will (997). There are many opinions
as to what kind of character Brutus is. He seems to be a sympathetic character above
all else. Impatient of my absence, / And grief that young Octavius with Mark Antony/

The Tragedy Of Tristan
The days passed slowly, each day becoming more and more unbearable. My body
still felt weak, and my ankle refused to heal, as did my heart. The wound that
Tristan had left was worse than any physical pain I could possibly imagine. I wasn t
blaming myself anymore, though. Instead, I felt a deep anger. I didn t understand
how Tristan could throw away everything that we had. I finally had everything I
could ever want. A supportive man would have been thrilled, and might have offered
his assistance, but Tristan was selfish and insecure. I didn t need him. Except for the
small fact that I did need him.
I didn t think that anything could fill the vast void, until Louis invited me to that ball.

It wasn t healing like the doctor said it would, and I still couldn t walk.
How will I get downstairs? I can t go anywhere with this ankle. I was disappointed,
cursing myself for getting excited.
That won t be any trouble. I ll carry you down.
I was startled when Louis put his arms around me and lifted my body out of the bed.
I hadn t left its embrace for a week, and being away from it was refreshing.
Louis strong arms barely wavered as we bounced down the hallway. It felt nice to
be held by him. He was warm, and despite his strength, very comforting. The pace
he walked at soothed me, and I started to feel a little tired, but I tried to keep my
eyes open. I didn t want to miss this amazing opportunity. I was going to make my
own dress!
I had seen many fabrics in my life. I used to go to the fabric shop and pick out
things to make new dresses with. The fabrics in the shop were dull, and some
smelled as if they d been worn for years and never washed. I couldn t afford to buy
the brighter colors, but I would stare at them, wishing for even a touch of the delicate
fabric.
I thought I had seen some of the world s most amazing fabrics, and when I entered
the workshop, I learned how wrong I really was.
I was surrounded by magnificent colors and textures, each fighting for my attention. I

Luke Aikins Research Paper

With more than 16,000 jumps to his credit, professional skydiver Luke Aikins has
performed many heart stopping stunts, but his latest feat tops them all. On July 30,
2016, the 42 year old daredevil became the first man in the world to leap off a plane
from an altitude of 25,000 feet without a wingsuit or parachute! Instead, he relied on a
net that measured 100 by 100 feet, or less than one third the size of a football field, to
break his fall and help him land safely.
The stunt, aptly named Heaven Sent, was so dangerous that the United States
Parachute Association (USPA) initially denied the skydiver s request to jump without
a parachute. However, the association had a change of heart just minutes before the
event, which meant that Akins had no backup during the historic leap. ... Show more

On Saturday evening, cheered on by family and friends that had gathered at
California s Simi Valley, Aikins boarded the Cessna airplane that would fly him to the
desired altitude. Shortly after, they, along with millions of others watching on
television, held their breath as Aikins plummeted toward the ground, face first, with
his arms outstretched. At about 10,000 feet, the skydiver handed his oxygen mask to
one of two team members who were doing the jump as well. They, of course, had
Essay On Geronimo
Geronimo was born in June 1829 in No Doyohn Canyon, Mexico, that today is
near Clifton, Arizona into the Bedonkohe Apache tribe. Having had viewed the
Geronimo video, it is apparent that he was a hero to some for being determined to be
free at all costs. It is also fair to say that many of his own Apachetribe feels to this
day, that he alone is the reason the Apache lost their homeland and caused so many
to die. Personally, I find him to be a man who looked up to his Leaders and became a
product of his environment. According to the film, Geronimowas raised to believe
that it was common practice to raid and steal food what ever you wanted as a
young man. Considered a naturally gifted hunter, Geronimo was as a boy who
swallowed the heart of his first kill in order to ensure a life of successful hunter.
Around the age of seven teen, Geronimo fell in love with a woman named Alope.
The two married and had three children together. While out on a trading trip, Mexican
fighters attacked his camp. Quietly that night, Geronimo returned home, where he
found his mother, wife and three children all dead. After, finding his entire family
murdered, was the turning point where Geronimo went from being a simple horse

Foremost, would be to get the answer if Geronimo was actually a racist serial killer
or a man who simply snapped and wanted revenge after the death of his family. In
addition, I would like to know, if the Chiricahaua felt that Geronimo was actually
hurt the tribe as a whole, why did they not try to stop him by death or
imprisonment. It is very easy to look back at an event or period of time and make
allegations about why things transpired or why they were not stopped. But one thing
is for sure, Geronimo is an Icon in American and Indian history and always will be

Hippolyta Plot
There are multiple interconnecting story arcs in this play. The exposition of the
story is when Hermia is on trial for defying her father s wishes, as well as when
Duke Theseus proclaims his love to Hippolyta. The rising action is when the four
youths run away from Athens, when the Mechanicals are introduced, and both groups
encounter the fairies. The climax is when the four youths quarrel over the lovespells,
as well as when one of the laborers has his head replaced with that of a donkey by
Puck. The falling action is when the major human characters in the woods have their
magical predicaments fixed by the fairies (the youths join into two couples, Bottom s
head is restored to its normal condition). The denouement is when the Mechanicals
put on the play for the Theseus and Hippolyta s wedding, and all of the conflict is
resolved in each plotline.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The connecting plotline, concerning the diplomatic marriage of Theseus and
Hippolyta, has both of those characters as protagonists. The antagonist is the threat
of renewed conflict between the Athenians and Amazons. The protagonists of the
arc of the youths are the four youths, while the antagonists are the adult figures
who dissaprove of their romance. The protagonists of the arc of the Mechanicals
are the laborers who seek to put on a show for the Duke and Queen, while the
antagonist is Puck, who is magically interfering with them for his own amusement.
The protagonist of the arc of the fairies is King Oberon of the fairies, who seeks to
revive the love with his wife, Titania. The antagonist is Puck s misapplication of the

Ra Essay
Experts aren t quite sure why people develop RA, however Judith Frank, MD claims
that years of research found that susceptible people include those who have a genetic
predisposition to RA, environmental factors, lifestyle factors, experience significant
hormonal balance disruption, or experience intestinal microbial changes. The genetic
predisposition to the diseaseis a specific gene, HLA DR4, which has been found in
approximately 65% of Caucasian RA cases. Although the presence of this genetic
marker increases the chance of developing the disease, most doctors don t order a
genetic test because it isn t an accurate diagnostic tool for RA. Medical News Today
states that RA is two to three times more likely to occur in women than men.... Show

Although the link between smoking and RA is unknown, Healthline states that
smoking triggers a faulty immune function if a person already has certain genetic
factors. The CDC states that smoking increases a person s risk of RA by 1.3 to 2.4
times, and can also cause one s symptoms to advance more quickly than someones
who does not smoke. In addition to smoking, Healthline states that those who are
overweight are at a higher risk for developing RA. This may be because individuals
who are overweight tend to have a more fatty, unhealthy diet or lack in physical
activity. The Mayo Clinic states that women who have been diagnosed with RA at
age 55 of younger are more likely to have been overweight. With that being said, it is
suggested to maintain a healthy weight in order to help prevent RA. Marc C.
Hochberg, co writer of the book Rheumatoid Arthritis, states that there are suggestions
that red meat may cause an increased risk for RA, and that intake of fruit and oily
fish may protect against RA, but all of these reports need confirmation (Hochberg).
There are ongoing studies that strive to find the cause and discover better treatments
for RA. According to the Arthritis Foundation, a new study has been looking at the
effects of nerve stimulation on RA patients, which is believed to help control the
inflammation of the disease. Kevin J. Tracey, Neurosurgeon, discovered that

Similarities Between 1984 And The Devolution Of
Language...
When describing Anthony Burgess s invented language Nadsat, the writer and
psychologist Theodore Dalrymple stated that as a linguistic invention, it is an equal
of Orwell s Newspeak (Dalrymple). Newspeak, the language in 1984 sponsored by
the government Ingsoc, and Nadsat, the Russified English spoken in A Clockwork
Orange, are both meant to be devolved forms of English that are inferior to those
spoken in the real world. Both dialects are prominent throughout their stories,
showing the importance of conveying their themes. Newspeakand Nadsatare very
effective in making their respective points on the dangers of devolving language
and stifling free will, but the ways in which they do so differ significantly. Orwell
uses the storylines in 1984 as an expression of beliefs on the devolution of language,
while Burgess uses the devolution of language to enhance the storyline of A
Clockwork Orange.
Orwell designed Newspeak to demonstrate the importance of language to ideas.
Orwell thought literature was dying out, which he connected with dying language
(Kazin 235). Language is not only the means by which an idea is expressed, but
also the means by which an idea is thought. The purposes of Newspeak are to allow
for the expression of thoughts Ingsoc deemed proper and make impossible the
expression of thoughts Ingsoc deemed heretical (Kendrick 344). According to Orwell,
control of thought follows control of language. The government in 1984 means to
control the language, and
The Causes Of Famine And Poverty
As a young girl, I recall watching a documentary about a young mother in Africa
who cooked mud cakes under the blinding sun to put some source of calcium into
her starving childrens body. The cakes were made from dried dirt which was dug
from the ground. While children in first world nations take for granted the meals
they receive at home and in school, every day millions of men and women across the
world struggle to feed their children a nutritious meal. As children in the richest
countries in the world throw out vast amounts of food and have developed particular
appetites for certain foods, children in developed countries go to bed with an empty
stomach. Many parents do not understand the impact of raising their children with a
silver spoon in their mouth and how it can shape them into selfish adults in the long
run. It is embarrassing as an American citizen to know that while our country is
facing obesity, people in other countries are dying from starvation. Most individuals
believe that famineand povertyare merely natural phenomenon based on geography
and environment. However, these individuals fail to realize that these issues are
rooted in social relations. In order to eradicate famine and poverty within society,
particular social relations need to be eliminated.
The popular belief of why famines occur and remain to impact many nations around
the world is because of geographic location. However, tragic famines like the Irish
potato famine reveal that it is merely
Woodrow Wilson Contributions
Woodrow Wilson (1856 1924) was elected President on the basis of domestic
issues in 1912, and re elected in 1916. He based his 1916 re election campaign
around the slogan he kept us out of war , and had worked hard to broker a
compromise peace. In early 1917 Berlin decided to launch all out submarine
warfare designed to sink American ships bringing supplies to Britain; in the
Zimmermann Telegram it proposed a military alliance with Mexico to fight a war
against the US. The nation was poorly armed when it went to war in April 1917,
but it had millions of potential fresh soldiers, billions of dollars, and huge supplies
of raw materials needed by the Allies. Officially Wilson kept the US independent
of the Allies. In 1918 Wilson took personal control of negotiations with Germany,
including the armistice. He issued his Fourteen Points, his view of a post war
world that could avoid another terrible conflict. It had an enormous impact on both
sides in Europe, and made him the man of the hour in Paris. A leader of the
Progressive Movement, he assembled a high powered group of academic advisors
to help him in Paris but his distrustful personality led him to break with a series of
close advisors, most notably Colonel House. He made a major blunder by refusing
to bring along any prominent Republicans to Paris, which politicised the American
debate and weakened his support. His main goal was a long term solution to end
warfare based on the League of Nationsand self determination of
Explain What Level Of Proof Is Required In A Criminal
Trial
1.What level of proof is required in a criminal trial? How does that differ in a civil
trial?
a.The level of proof required in a criminal trial is: proof beyond a reasonable doubt
(Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments Due Process Clauses). (Garland 17) Meaning
that if the judge has no doubt on the defendant s guilt based on the evidence
provided he will be sentenced as guilty. On the other hand, in a civil trial, all that is
needed is proof by a preponderance of the evidence, which means that one side of the
case has more proof than the other resulting in a small margin of difference between
the case verdict.

v.Is in possession of the person s natural faculties; and vi. Is able to read or speak the
English language.
4.What is voir dire and jury nullification?
a.Voir dire A process in which jurors are questioned in order to select the members of
the final panel. Another definition given by Garland is roughly it means to speak the
truth.
(Garland 32)
b.Jury Nullification Is when a jury reaches a verdict that is opposing to that of all the
evidence presented.
5.What is the difference between a jury trial and a bench trial? Who determines
which it will be?
a.A bench trial takes place in front of a judge and there are no jurors (jury) present.
On the other hand, a jury trial is when members of the public act as jurors and
provide their feedback to the judge once they hear the evidence provided. The
prosecuting attorney needs to agree to a trial without jurors present. Once it is
agreed the judge will commence the case without a jury present. A defendant also
has the right to waive a jury, however it is only allowed in some
Music Production, Branding And Music Consumption With
My...
INTRODUCTION The landscape of music industry has undeniably changed during
the past 15 years. The advancing technology made a big impact on how we produce,
market, promote, monetize and consume music. In my essay response I will be
focusing on three themes: music production, branding and music consumption with
my overarching theme being Technology. For an established or up and coming
band in 90s there were four possible income sources: touring, merchandising,
recordings and publishing. These income sources are still here, but there are so
much more options now. This is the reason why for bands and artists it is more
difficult now then it was back then, because they have all these choices to make
(Bertis Downs, 2012). To be a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2014 the overall music market value was only $14.97 billion (IFPI, 2014). The
music record industry went into decline because of the advancing computers and
telecommunication technologies, new MP3 format and Peer to Peer file sharing
websites. Consumers stopped buying tangible formats like CDs and preferred to
have everything on their hard drives. They were also able to get music for free,
because there was no enforceable law forbidding them. The technology has also
changed the relationship between the record label and the artist. Record label
would pay all the costs in a typical contract, which covers studio costs, session
musicians, producers and engineers. Music is now being recorded in digital format
and not analog, which reduces the costs together with distribution being digital
downloads and streaming. This means that artists can take care of the whole
process from start to finish. MUSIC PRODUCTION Technology is like a river and
can change its direction completely. It can move in a different direction from what
once was considered to be true and into one expected logically in the future. The
cost and accessibility barrier is lowered with every new technology arriving and
therefore the competition is increasing (Peter Alexander, 1994). In late 80s digital
music recording was emerging, but with technological limitations like computer
memory and speed, the artist couldn t do more than sampling. In early and mid 90s
hardware got better and more
Transformative Learning In The Process Of The Adult...
The adult learning process is complicated to explain because one definition cannot
truly encompass all the different ways and reasons people are continuing to learn
after mandatory schooling. Jack Mezirow came up with a concept known as
transformative learning to describe the adult learning process (Merriam, et al., 2014).
Transformative learningis defined as making meaning out of one s experiences
(Merriam, et al., 2014). Creating meaning for our experiences allows adults to learn
once reflection has occurred. Many stages are involved in the process, but reflection
is the one that helps change the experiences into knowledge, new skills, or a change
in attitude (Merriam, et al., 2014). Experiential learning also follows the reflection
process, as the learner practices and reflects on mistakes or good outcomes,
knowledge is gained (Merriam, et al., 2014). Motivational learning and self directed
learning can also relate to transformative learning because there is a drive or desire
to accomplish a goal for the individual, which Mezirow theorizes is an essential part
of transformative learning (Merriam, et al., 2014). Individual transformation is a
precursor for learning to extend to societal change or influence on others learning
(Merriam, et al., 2014).
Transformative learning does not outline the ways in which learning occurs but states
that we are constantly learning if we are willing to stop and reflect on the experiences
and then change based on the information. Adults

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bridge
This report aims to examine the advantages and shortcomings of four different types
of bridge, namely the truss, suspension, beam, and cantilever bridges. Secondly, it
evaluates three forces that act upon these bridges г…Ў compression, tension, and
shear г…Ў and how each kind of bridge handles the forces. Lastly, it includes a
explanation of the Tacoma Bridgeincident and a description of the author s bridge.
Since tension, compression, and shear are to be discussed for each kind of bridge,
here are definitions for those forces. Tension acts to expand or lengthen the thing
upon which it is acting (Basics). Compression, the opposite of tension, is a force that
attempts to compress or shorten whatever it is acting upon (Basics). Another force,
shear, occurs when two forces move in opposite directions on the bridge (Discovery).

In the middle parts of these bridges, there is only one side support, making it weaker
than other sections of the bridge (NYLN). On this type of bridge, tension and
compression are the main forces. When there is a load, the bridge experiences
tension in the upper part of the cantilever span and compression in the span under
the deck (Hagler). As long as these forces remain balanced, the bridge functions
well, but, for example, if the compression force becomes more than the tension
force, then the lower supports of the bridge could collapse (Hagler). Though not as
prominent a force, shear still acts upon cantilever bridges when a load passes
along the suspended deck; since the deck is not supported by a beam underneath
and has only one side support, it is the weakest point of the bridge (Hagler). The
load, in addition to gravity, pushes downward while the beams on either side of it
push back upwards; the cantilever of the bridge distributes this force on the deck so
that it does not collapse

Canada has been well regarded with its attitude towards multiculturalism, establishing
an Act that protects the rights of people who have different beliefs and the
encouragement for all cultures to work together. While being the only country to
have a policy such as the Multiculturalism Act, racism has been a part of Canadian
history, including but not limited to the colonialismof Indigenous Peoplesand the
internment of Japanese Canadians. The effects of colonialism on indigenous culture
and the treatment of Japanese Canadians are reflected in the novels Monkey Beach
by Eden Robinson and Obasan by Joy Kogawa. The main characters of the novels,
Lisamarie in Monkey Beach and Naomi in Obasan, both come to terms with the
effects of growing up in minority communities in British Columbia, as well as
discovering their own identities, by reflecting on their pasts during a time of family
tragedies. Lisamarie struggles with accepting and understanding her spirituality in a
family that mostly ignores and denies their connections to the spirituality of their
ancestors, due to the effects of colonialism and residential schools. Naomi reflects on
her family being removed from their homes and the racism that the Japanese faced
after the Pearl Harbour attack. Robinson and Kogawa use their protagonists to look
back to the past and reflect on the events that have shaped their families. Lisamarie
discovers how spirituality and relationships have been molded due to the colonialism

Presidential vs parliamentary systems Essay

This article is a comparison of presidential and parliamentary systems. They are the
two most popular types of democratic governments. They have common and
dissimilar features.
In both presidential and parliamentary systems the chief executive can be removed
from office by the legislature but the way of it is different. Dissimilar feature is the
election of the chief executive and the debate styles. I present the two best examples
of these systems: the USA (presidentialism) and the UK (parliamentary system).
Consequently nations can choose which system they sympathise: the more classic

The President is both the chief executive and the head of state. The President is
elected independently of the legislature. The powers invested in the President are
usually balanced against those vested in the legislature. In the American presidential
system, the legislature must debate and pass various bills. The President has the
power to veto the bill, preventing its adoption. However, the legislature may override
the President s veto if they can muster enough votes. The American President s
broadest powers rest in foreign affairs. The
President has the right to deploy the military in most situations, but does not have the
right to officially declare war. More recently the American President requested the
right to approve treaties without the consent of the legislature. The American
Congress denied this bill and was able to override the President s veto [1].
A presidential system is a system of government where an executive branch exists and
presides (hence the name) separately from the legislature, to which it is not
accountable and which cannot, in normal circumstances, dismiss it.
It owes its origins to the medieval monarchies of France, England and Scotland where
executive authority was vested in the Crown, not in meetings of the estates of the
realm (i.e., parliament): the Estates General of France, the Parliament of
Purpose And Hypothesis Of The Study
Purpose and Hypothesis of the Study The purpose for the study by Suitor, Gilligan,
Johnson, and Pillemer (2014) was to see if there would sibling tension between,
brothers, sisters, and or both, when their mother was in need of care due to age or
sickness. A factor such as favoritism might affect the outcome of the study since this
might bring a sense of competition within the siblings. Past studies were done that
were similar to this one, as a result of that, the expected outcome of the study was that
tension would be much higher between siblings if the motherwas in a situation that
required serious care rather than simple care.
Sample
Participants of the study range from different families. There were brothers, sisters,
and both brothers and sisters. In total there were 450 siblings from the city of
Massachusetts used for the study. However, there were only 214 families in the
study. As a result, some families had more than 2 siblings. That also meant there
were a total of 214 mothers from ages 65 to 75 that were in the study. Unfortunately
the age of the siblings was not given. (Suitor et al., 2014).
Methods and procedures Before the initial study began, Suitor et al., (2014) used a
Massachusetts list, which had various families that were open for the study. At first,
there were originally 566 mothers that were willing to be part of the study. Once the
mothers were contacted, only a few out of the 566 were serious about the study.
Unfortunately some were too ill and
The Environmental Sustainability Of Aquaculture
The ocean. A vast, mysterious, and priceless treasure found only on planet earth.
Home to some of the most complex and distinct species in the world. Humans have a
close connection to oceans. Over the last several centuries, humans nearly harvested
every living creature from the seas. Habitat loss, destruction of ecosystems, and even
extinction, became the aftermath of the fishingindustries. From the oceans, mass
amounts of aquatic creatures such as fish, molluscs, and crustaceans were being
captured by 4.7 million fishing vessels in 2012, an ever expanding number. (FAO1,
2014). Oceans were left forever changed. Aquacultureis the solution. Using controlled
environments and efficiently reproductive fish breeds, humans are able to raise...

Give a man a fish and you feed him for day, teach a man how to fish and you feed
him for a lifetime, said the Spanish scholar Maimonides nearly a millennium ago.
Fishing is a critical source of nutrition for the ever expanding demands of the modern
world. The method of farming, feeding and harvesting of fish, shellfish and aquatic
plants have been practiced by humans for centuries. It is not until 2012 when
aquaculture accounted for nearly 42 percent of the total global seafood production.
(FAO, 2014) Being the fastest growing food production industry in the world,
aquaculture mostly thrives in Asian countries such as China, India, and Vietnam with
global production value at 137.7 billion USD in 2012. (FAO, 2014) However, the
negative impacts of aquaculture remains prevalent. China, being the largest producer
of aquacultural products, has faced eutrophication and fish waste pollution as a
result. (Liu, 2005) Counteractively, the Chinese government has set standards for
regulating antibiotics and chemicals used as well as filtering pollution and waste.
(NBSO, 2010) Aquaculture is also able to alleviate the lack of activity commonly
found in developing nations. Given time, links of food security, rural development,
improved nutrition and established services can all be drawn to aquaculture. (FAO,
2006) In the past, rich resources of fish and marine
Transgender Video Analysis
2) I think learning more about the history of transgender individuals would be very
interesting. It is not a topic that is discussed a ton, and I believe it would be good to
get exposed to their history. Learning more about the current transgender movements
is an issue we should also become more informed on. The news does not talk about
the violence directed towards transgenderpeople, so I think we should get more
educated on what they are going through. I never really heard about the violence
towards transgender individuals because I come from a small town and it is not
really an issue that is brought up on the news often.
4) I thought it was really interesting when they brought up the issue of a lot of
transgender characters being played by cisgender actors and actresses. I am sure
there are plenty of extremely talented transgender actresses and actors. I feel like
the casting people did not try to reach out to the transgender group of actors and
actresses. I my opinion, transgender individuals would relate more to the
transgender characters. I think it would add a lot of authenticity, so I believe more
shows should look for a transgender to play their transgender role of characters. I
think we need to start giving these individuals more chances, so we can have more ...

Laverne Cox shares a lot of stories her own and others that work to inspire
acceptance of the transgender community. It is super admiring that Laverne is using
her celebrity status to spread awareness about the discriminations and violence that

more open about being transgender, so I think as a society we need to be more
accepting of differences between each other. She does a great job with addressing
the violence that is directed at the transgender community, and I believe it is a topic
that needs to be covered

Monster , a 1999 novel by Walter Dean Myers, is an incredible story told through
the fictional movie script of a boy on trial for murder and robbery. It s an intriguing
read that triggers deep thought and empowers the hearts within all. A book notable
for its messages against implicit bias, encouraging the notion of truth within yourself,
you can speculate on its events from start to finish and beyond. But it s worth
pondering of its connection to real life. Does Monster truly reflect the criminal justice
system of our country s society today? Read on to discover the shocking answer. It is

While it is widely accepted that historical or descriptive narratives produce
knowledge, is the same true of fiction? Can fictional narratives such as novels
produce knowledge, and if so, what kind? Consider this question in relation to Ian
McEwan s novel Atonement.
It would be very difficult for anyone to find a person who stated that historical or
descriptive narratives did not produce knowledge. Can the same thing be said for the
genre of historical fiction? In an analysis between historical narratives and historical
fiction, we will see what do these two topics share, and what kinds of knowledge
does historical fiction produce. What is it about historical narratives that give
readers a sense that going into it, that they will become knowledgeable about a
certain topic? What is considered knowledge in a historical narrative? I would say
what a makes a historical narrative is that it contains facts such as dates, accounts of
events, and information about the lives of people. These types of things can be
measured through various forms of tests. (we know how much emphasis is put on
what a person can recall). As a result, a reader may say that historical narratives are
much more objective. Also, the writers of these historical novels are able to make
connections to the modern day with the readers. But aside from the obvious
The Power of Love in Louisa May Alcott Little Women
Essay
The Power of Love in Little Women
Truly, love does work miracles! (335) The March family portrayed in Louisa May
Alcott s Little Women, was the classic American family. The father is fighting in
war, the mother is all knowing and wise and the four daughters are budding seeds
of independence. In the beginning of the novel we are introduced to all four of the
sisters. Meg, the oldest, is wise and very concerned with class and the styles of the
times. Jo was the least like any of her sisters. She longs to be a boy and not have to
worry about such petty things as her hair and what she is wearing. Beth is a kind
gentle soul who is always contented with what she has. Amy, the youngest, is very
conceited. She is always concerned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now more than ever she wants to marry someone rich so she could have all of nice
things that go along with money.
I wonder if I shall ever be happy enough to have real lace on my clothes, and bows on
my caps? Meg said impatiently (69).
The neighbor boy, Laurie, is quite close with all of the March sisters. While all of the
girls are over at his house quite often, Laurie is made to stay at home with his tutor
Mr. John Brooke. Over a period of 4 5 months, Mr. Brooks fell in lovewith Meg.
When Meg first found out, she was against the whole thought of it. Mr. Brooke
was poor and wouldn t give her the life she so wanted to have. After a confrontation
with Aunt March, Meg realized that she did in fact have strong feelings for Mr.
Brooke. They were married 3 years later. During their marriage, Meg learned to
love Mr. Brooke as a wife would. At first, before love was strong, she pitied herself
and her small house with few furnishings. She felt very sad that she didn t get
many nice things at her wedding and she couldn t afford to buy them for herself.
She had once bought a piece of silk for 50 dollars despite how little money her and
John had. John was not mad but disappointed in her. He canceled the order he had
made for a new coat with I can t afford it, my dear as the only explanation (214).
This was the turning point for Meg. After this she realized how much she did care
about John and she didn t want him to be disappointed
Military Service Should Not Be Mandatory In The United
States
Armstrong Williams believes that military service should be mandatory in the United
States. His reasons are that it would benefit the military, the country, and the
conscript. While Williams provides some interesting arguments, I disagree with his
position on mandatory military service and believe there are negative aspects to each
benefit he describes. Militaryservice should not be mandatory because of the negative
consequences to our country, citizens, and military.
Mandatory military service should not go into effect because it would harm our
country and its citizens. America was founded on the precepts of life, liberty, and
the pursuit of happiness. To dictate such a policy would destroy our great country s
very foundation. Specifically, it would rob Americans of their basic liberty to choose
whether to join the military or not. In addition, most people would get drafted to the
military around the age of eighteen, which is when they would otherwise be
interviewing to get a job or heading off to college. Conscription takes away these
freedoms to choose one s path and, at a minimum, delays it for at least two ... Show

With significantly more people joining the military than usual, expenses would
drastically increase and the military would suffer because of this. Not only would
our military have less money for weapons, equipment, and machinery, but soldiers
would also get paid less. As Martin Luther King Jr. once stated, A nation that
continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs
of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom. In addition, mandatory service would
weaken our forces. Since the participants do not train or choose to join the military,
many will bring a lack of athleticism, preparedness, and motivation, which will dilute
the military overall. In close, the U.S. military would be negatively affected by

Volkswagen s The Environmental Protection Agency
Volkswagen has found itself entangled in one of the most serious automotive scandals
today. On September 18th, 2015 Volkswagen was accused of installing defective
devices into their V6 diesel automobiles; the cars of Audi, Porsche, and Volkswagen,
all owned by Volkswagen AG (Customer Report, customerreports.org) were all
affected. When the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was informed of this
allegation, they set out an investigation to see whether this was true or false.
The news broke when the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had
determined that Volkswagenhad installed a defeat device, otherwise known as a
software code used to cheat on emissions tests, on approximately 11 million
vehicles in the US and Germany (Jason Bisnoff, NYDailyNews.com). This device
would enable the Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) to be trapped during the testing phase,
and at the point it was taken off the dynamometer test device the vehicle would
pick up signals that the car is going on the road and the trap would shutoff. By
Volkswagen making this horrific adjustment, they have supported one of the key
ingredients in the release of a highly poisonous gas into the environment which
produces smog, contributes to cardiovascular problems, and respiratory problems,
such as asthma, and also produces acid rain. This is a bigger issue for the people
who live in Silicon Valley, and all around Southern California; this is very important

Analysis Of The Poem Where The Sidewalk Ends
Shel Silverstein is a notable writer, made famous for his poems that were geared
towards children. One of his most famous poems, Where the Sidewalk Ends shares
the title with what may be his most well known book. This poem is a very
meticulously worded work, and although it may be published in a children s book, it
can be understood and very meaningful to older generations. This piece has a depth
and wisdom that may be well beyond the comprehension of young minds, and it can
be interpreted and analyzed in many ways and can reveal a variety of themes. When
first reading this short poem, the initial theme that stands out to me, personally is the
idea of the change that occurs during aging. It seems that the stark contrast between
the imagery of the first stanza, versus the second stanza reveals the dramatic
difference between childhood and adulthood. Childhood can be thought of as more
gentle, airy, and even innocent. The third lineof the first stanza says the grass grows
soft and white... (Silverstein, n.d.). This gives that notion of gentleness, and
innocence associated with childhood. Many think of the color white and associate it
with innocence, maybe because of their religious practices. Religious imagery
sometimes depicts heavenly beings in white robes, possibly surrounded by white
wisps of clouds or white rays of light. The word soft is also associated with
gentleness. Many would imagine the soft grass, and think back to a time in their
childhood on a
The Heavenly Dialogue Of God And Satan
After these tragic events occurred one reads later in Job, that Satan began to
attack Job s health and Job continues to worship God. In chapter two of Job, Job s
wife asks Job, Do you still hold fat your integrity? In the ESV study bible the
commentary suggests that the content of her question is significant for how it
relates to the heavenly dialogue of God and Satan. She asks Job a rhetorical
question that the doubts the sensibility of the very thing that God find
commendable about Job, his consistent integrity. The latter part of verse nine
expresses the anger that Job s wife is feeling, she answers her own question saying,

Job exists as the sole counselor in this event because he encourage his wife even
though he goes through more than she goes through and he receives multiple
negative monologues from his friends. The rest of the book of Job discusses the
miseries of Job s trials and does not mention Job s wife again until the last five
verses of the book; however this counseling session will parallel the events of Job
and focus on the reconciliation of Job s wife. This counseling session begins after
Job s wife tells him to curse God because at this point she existed at the deepest point
of her grief and anger. Furthermore, the next step to take in this counseling session
exists in identifying the type of grief that Job s wife is experiencing and if her anger
exists as a symptom of grief, or does it subsist as its own issue. In J. William Worden
s book, Grief Counseling and Grief Therapy, he discusses multiple reasons and
responses of grief in different occasions. Job s wife experiences a sudden death of
multiple children and Worden proposes that those who lose a loved one in a sudden
death react differently to the situation. He says that some clients obtain a sense of
unreality about the loss; others feel guilt, helplessness, or even agitation. I believe
that Job s wife is feeling agitation from the sudden death of all her children and this
is characterized by a fight or flight response. She
Prodigal Son Vs Jesus
Annette Simmons once said, If you wish to influence and individual or a group to
embrace a particular value in their daily lives, tell them a compelling story. The book
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and the biblical Parable of the Prodigal Son
hold some similarities. They do, however, hold distinct differences. The differences
between Great Expectationsand the Parable of the Prodigal Son can be traced back to
the purpose of the authors. The differences are evident though the authors purpose,
the plot, and the main characters in both works. The main reason that Great
Expectations and the Parable of the Prodigal Son are so different, is the intent of the
original authors. Dickens wrote Great Expectations as a social commentary.... Show

In the beginning of Great Expectations seven year old Pip meets an escaped
convict in the graveyard one night. The convict is recaptured, but it remains
something Pip dwells on for the rest of his life. Several years later an elderly
woman named Miss Havisham and her adopted daughter Estella invite Pip to visit.
Estella berates Pip for being common. Following this encounter, Pip is unhappy
with his life until he is told some unnamed benefactor has given Pip a fortune. Pip
is whisked away to London where he wastes his money and finds himself in debt.
In the parable, the story begins with the son receiving his inheritance from his
father. The son then leaves home for a distant country. In this foreign country, he
squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation (Luke 15:13). Pip lives in
London for several years until he discovers his benefactor is the convict he met in
the graveyard. Pip tries to helps the convict, Magwitch, escape from the police, but
Magwitch is captured. As a result, Pip looses his fortune. In the parable the son
simply runs out of money just as a famine strikes the land. He tries to make a living
taking care of the swine. In the book Pip returns home briefly to make amends with
Joe and Joe s wife Biddy, then returns to London to make an honest living with his
friend Herbert. The son in the parable decides to return home in hopes that his
father will hire him as a worker. His father instead greets him with open arms and
declares this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has
been found (Luke 15:24). Pip in Great Expectations and the son in the Parable of
the Prodigal Son may appear to be similar, but they are still different. Pip begins the
story with low self esteem due to his harsh
Marx s Theory On Class Conflict And Society Essay
Since the french and industrial revolution in 18 century, the world had come to a
new era: capitalist society. Capitalism represents a big step forward in human
productive abilities compared with previous forms of society. Along with the
social development, there was a new group of people who was called the
sociologist who analyze and try to understand how this society works. Marx was
one of them and his ideas were influential. His theory mostly emphasis on class
conflict and the society from economic aspects. This essay will first analyze Marx s
theory in detail. Then I will explain how economy and social conflict related to Marx
s theory along with the role of these factors in the capitalist society.
Marx defined social class as the class which sets the scene and moves things forward.
He sometimes talked about there are only two classes: Bourgeoisie and proletariat,
the class in itself and the class for itself, sometimes talked about there are many
numbers of classes such as capitalist, working class and landowner. There is no
simple unambiguous, and universally accepted body of Marxist doctrine. As Bob
Jessop said, the thoughts of Marx in his life time were various and far ranging. In
general, Marx refers bourgeoisies as capitalists and they are major class in that
period leading into industrialization. And he thinks the petty bourgeoisie as middle
classes who cannot see themselves as part of class, only as individual. The last one,
the proletariat, was described by

These different shifts depict the number of customer service employees and the time
frames they are scheduled. The home improvement retail industry has two types of
customers; the professional/contractor and the do it yourself individual. These
customers differentiating shopping trends and support needs are taken into
consideration when scheduling employees for the floor. In evaluating the proposed
schedule, business trend, customer demographic and operating shifts were taken into
consideration when allocating customer service employees during operating hours.
Schedule Shifts
The majority of professional/contractor customers shop during early hours of the
morning which is known as the opening shift (7am 10am). Professional/contract
customers are experienced and have knowledge of the merchandise that they need
and where it s located in the store given their visit frequency. Given these facets, the
number of customer service employees on the floor is much higher than is needed.
The proposed employee numbers are higher than needed and I recommend the AMC
advance planners schedule estimates for the times between 7am and 11am be used.
Using AMC advance planners estimated schedule provides lower staffing costs and
gives you the ability to utilize the employees at a different time during store

Capital Punishment Is Cruel And Unusual
Although many people believe that capital punishment is cruel and unusual. It is the
only punishment that can truly compensate the loss of a loved one. In recent years,
the rate of serious crimes has increased. The increase of crime is the result of less
effective punishment. Dating back to early civilizations, capital punishment, also
known as the death penalty, was viewed as an effective punishment. Yet today s
society it is viewed as cruel and inhumane. I believe that capital punishment should be
executed more often because; the rate of serious crimewill decrease, free up prison
space, and would serve as the ultimate warning. What is capital punishment? Capital
punishment is the lawful way to take a person s life, once convicted of a serious
crime, such as first degree murder. Some people agree it is the most appropriate
punishment to all vile murder cases (Williams), but others call it cruel and
unconstitutional. There are a variety of methods in the death penalty. The method
used most would be lethal injections, due to its quickness, effectiveness, and pain
less results. My first reason why I believe the death penalty should be executed
more often is because it could possibly help the problem of overcrowding in
prisons. States such as Texas and California, mainly suffer from this problem due to
its vast population and crime rate. Instead of keeping inmates for life in prison, its
better to execute the one s with the most serious crimes than to release them or

Bullying In American Schools
Bullying is a growing problem in American schools; an increase in bullying over a
period of time can lead to suicide or negative impacts on health. Although some
believe that students should not be formally charged for bullying, they should be
because that is a cruel act and could lead to negative things. Opponents suggest that
students should not be formally charged with bullying. They argue that students do
not have the capacity to understand the consequences of their actions. For example, if
a student bullies another student, they have no way of knowing that their actions
could lead to that student harming themselves. Opponents of bullying believes that

the assassin fell onto the wooden stage. Limping off the stage, he charged the

soldiers searched for Booth for twelve days, but eventually surrounded him in a
tobacco shed near Port Royal, Virginia. Twelve days of travel, with an injured leg,
brought the assassin less than one hundred miles form Ford s Theater. After
refusing to surrender, Booth was shot and killed. In retrospect, if the Ford s hadn t

His injury delayed the escape plan, consequently allowing the Union forces time to

and how they performed these heroic acts while being very chivalrous. Roland in
this song is a loyal defender of his lord and while telling the story the song
describes the code of chivalry and its code of conduct. Thanks to this song it was
an easy way to spread the code of chivalry in a way that everybody understood it
and would want to follow it. Many people have researched chivalry and knighthood
using historical books and stories told from generation to generation. This day and
age though you can search up anything you would like, the problem is sorting the
useful from the useless. There is not just one source for this paper it is many
different sources that share the same facts with each other. The reason for this is so
that the information would be as accurate as humanly possible. As for extra
information that would be helpful getting the point across or just for some extra
information there are two different
Comparing The Kite Runner And Mister Pip
Though The Kite Runner and Mister Pip were both captivating novels in which each
have the potential to teach valuable lessons and broaden the reader s perspective to
grasp a better understanding of life, I believe that The Kite Runner had a better
ending and was able to more effectively display the four elements of good endings
which consists of unity, resolution, character growth, and recurrent symbols and
themes. The element resolution is when characters in a narrative face various
conflicts and challenges which are eventually resolved or come to an end. In Mister
Pip, many of the conflicts were malleable and open to various interpretations as
imagination was frequently used. The main character, Matilda, used her imagination
and a fictional character to help her resolve internal conflict and challenge difficult
situations, which is not the most realistic way to address problematic situations. In
The Kite Runner, the author used the main character, Amir, to exhibit feelings of
guilt and internal anger. Amir then endures a journey of self acceptance and
redemption, something in which many readers are able to... Show more content on

I believe that The Kite Runner was more effective in utilizing this element than
Mister Pip. In the beginning of the novel, I was able to recognize the importance
and symbolism of the kite. As the novel progressed, I became dissatisfied with
Amir s behavior up until the end of the novel when Amir saved Hassan s son,
Sohrab, from the orphanage. Amir brought Sohrab back to America to lead a better
life. The novel then ended with Amir and Sohrab flying a kite together, something
that Amir and Sohrab s father, Hassan, used to do together. This exhibited a full
circle effect. In Mister Pip, there was a lack of this same
The Use Of Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Centers
Working in various settings of physical therapy rehabilitation centers is one of the
most challenging and complicated. Apart from the 40 hour workweek, it is physically
strenuous as well. Physical therapists often have to the need to stoop, kneel, crouch,
lift, and stand for extensive periods. Above and beyond, physical therapists move
heavy equipment and lift patients or help them turn, stand, or walk.
Most of the patients that I have encountered are diagnosed with Diabetic Neuropathy
(DN). Diabetic Neuropathy is a brought about by a complication of Type 1 and Type
2 Diabetes. In 2012, there are about 29.1 million Americans, or 9.3% of the
population, had diabetes (American Diabetes Association [ADA], 2016). Due to its

Acting in accordance with National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney
Diseases (NIDDK), diabetic neuropathies are family of nerve syndromes affected
by diabetes (2009). People with diabetes can be asymptomatic overtime and some
can have notable signs with radicular symptoms in the upper and lower extremities
(NIDDK, 2009), Moreover, can affect even the digestive, cardiac, and reproductive
system in serious conditions (NIDDK, 2009). In fact, based on academic literatures,
about two thirds of patients with diabetes have medical or subclinical pathology of
nerve (Bansal, Kalita, Mistra, 2006). The occurrence of neuropathy amplified from
approximately 7 percent to 50 percent on admittance at 25 years in consequence
(Bansal, Kalita, Mistra, 2006).
The threatening factors of diabetic neuropathy are as follows: decreased glycemic
regulation, old age, high blood pressure, prolonged diabetic mellitus (DM),
increased cholesterol, smoking, alcoholic, tall height, and HbA1c level (Quann,
Lin, Khardori , 2015). About close to 26 percent of seniors or above 65 years of age
are impacted with DN (ADA, 2016).
Diabetes was the 7th primary cause of mortality in the United States in 2010 (ADA,
2016).
Pathogenesis of DN
Several assumptions were made due to unexplained pathological mechanism of DN
Similarities Between Kroc And Disney
In this chapter, Schlosser talks about the relationship between Ray Kroc and Walt
Disney as well as how both men became the men they are today. During the
chapter, the many similarities between the two was described. Both Kroc and
Disney were born in Illinois a year apart, they served together in World War I, they
both dropped out of high school, they both moved to Southern California after the
war and They also both became geniuses at marketing their products to children.
Schlosser discusses Kroc s various career choices before being sold the right to
franchise McDonald s. Once Kroc was sold the rights to franchise he sent a Disney
a letter, inquiring if there might be room for his restaurant in Disney s new park

The Effect of Trade Balance on National Income Growth
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The attainment of balance of trade is always a critical factor in the economic
development of many nations. This simply means that continuous trade deficits and
surpluses are undesirable. The world has become a global village in which different
countries interact with themselves and get involved in business transactions and
trade. This kind of trade between countries is known as international trade which
involves the exchange of goods and services between nations.
Some countries are more or less deficit nations which mean they import more than
they export, while some countries produce more than is absorbed by their domestic
economy so they export the surpluses. Either of these actions means that a ... Show

He proposed as an example to suppose that he, a Frenchman, exported French wine
and imported British coal, turning a profit. He supposed he was in France, and
sent a Cask of wine which was worth 50 francs to England. The custom house
would record an export of 50 francs. If in England, the wine sold for 70 francs,
which he then used to buy coal, which he imported into France and was found to be
worth 90 francs in France, he would have made a profit of 40 francs. But the custom
house would say that the value of imports exceeded the value of exports and was
trade deficit against the ledger of France. By reductio ad absurdum, Bastiat argued
that the national trade deficit was an indicator of a successful economy, rather than a
failing one. Bastiat predicted that a successful, growing economy would result in
greater trade deficits, and an unsuccessful, shrinking economy would result in lower
trade deficits. This was later, in the 20th century, affirmed by economist Milton
Friedman.
Trade deficits can be healthy if it is used in importing capital goods that increases
output. Small trade deficits are generally not considered to be harmful to either the
importing or exporting economy. However, when a national trade imbalance expands
beyond prudence (generally thought to be several percentage of GDP, for several
years), adjustment tend to occur. While unsustainable imbalances may persist for
long periods,
Eight Theoretical Perspectives
There are eight theoretical perspectives in contemporary psychology. Any topic in
psychology has many approaches that have a variety of perspectives for each that is
given. Starting with the biological perspective, it is noted that physiology has played
a major role in psychology. The organ systems such as the nervous system, endocrine
system, immune system, and genetics are greatly emphasized in studying physical
bases of human and animal behavior. Neuroscience more specifically studies the
nervous system, particularly the brain. The next theoretical perspective is the
cognitive perspective, which is a relatively modern approach. It focuses on the
important role of mental processes in how people process and remember information,
develop language,
The Effects Of Single Parent Home Research
For several years, the focus of much single parent home research has been
concentrated on households where the father is not present. Due to the prevalent
influence of various psychoanalytical theories, and the enormous amounts of female
headed households. Research shows that there are six general effects bestowed upon
children who live in single parenthomes; regardless of the reason for the single parent
status. The six general effects are:
Loss of concentration or attention
Delinquency and substance abuse
Withdraw from family and friends
A decline in academic scores and behavioral issues at school, and at home
Emotional outbursts, and often an increase in health issues
Severe anger issues (Hurtes, 2004).
These are just the general effects on some children being raised in a single parent
home. In addition to these general effects, there are more age specific effects on
some children who live in single parent homes. The following is a brief
summarization of some effects which children of different age ranges may
experience while living in a single parent home.
For children ages 3 5 years of age:
Regression to more infant like behavior
Feeling frightened, insecure, and angry
Children in Single Parent Homes 9
Some may experience nightmares, excessive or uncontrollable crying, and separation
anxiety
Changes in their eating or sleeping habits.
For children ages 6 8 years of age:
Feelings of sadness, loss, fright, and uncertainty
Feelings of intense
Essay on Grateful Dead
Grateful Dead
The Grateful Dead, the most popular so called underground band of all time. This
band has underwent many changes, some good and others bad throughout their
thirty or so years of performing. I plan to prove that a band that has remained
together for thirty plus years isn t as easy as many would assume. In fact I would
have to say the down times in the band almost equal the outrageously great time they
had. Despite all the down times the amazing music of the Grateful Dead always made
it possible to bring smiles to empty faces anytime anywhere. Even now that the
bands figure head (Jerry Garcia) has passed on, the family that he created
(Deadheads) and left behind will never forget him or his music.

I know that if the Acid Tests had never happened we would have been just another
band, stated Phil Lesh in a nineteen eighties interview.
This is now where the Grateful Dead were born as we know them today. The name,
Grateful Dead as every deadhead knows, choose itself when Garcia flipped open
an old dictionary at Phil s house, and there it was...It was one of those moments, he
told Rolling Stone, like everything else on the page went blank, diffuse, just sorta
oozed away, and there it was grateful dead. Big black letters edged all around in
gold, man, blasting out at me, such a stunning combination. A veritable fat trip. So
I said, How about Grateful Dead, and that was it. The band was smoking a
superpsychedelic DMT. In another, later account, Garcia didn t like the name at
first but thought is was just to powerful to ignore. Weir and Kreutzmann didn t like
it either but people started calling us that and it just started, Grateful Dead,
Grateful Dead... Here is the definition of the word Grateful Dead in the 1955 Funk
and Wagnalls Dictionary. GRATEFUL DEAD The motif of a cycle of folk tales
which begins with the hero s coming upon a group of people ill treating or refusing
to bury the corpse of a man who had died without paying his debts. He gives his last
penny, either to pay the man s debts or to give him a decent burial. Within a few
hours he meets with a traveling
Iron Vs Non Haem Iron Essay
Iron is a vital mineral that is needed for many roles within the body. This includes the
transport of oxygen in the blood with haemoglobin, myoglobin which is iron
containing and helps store oxygen in muscles cells and support of the immune system
(Arens, 1996).
Composition of Iron There are 2 different forms of iron, haem and non haem. Haem
iron is the most easily absorbed of the two, and is the more desirable as its
absorption is not impacted by other nutrients eaten in the diet ( Iron | Nutrient
Reference Values, 2014). Although it makes up only about six percent of iron in the
diet, it equals roughly a third of the iron absorbed ( Iron | Nutrient Reference Values,
2014). On the other hand, non haem iron is eaten in much larger amounts, ... Show

It can be life threatening, especially to children ( Iron poisoning , 2017). Moderate
toxicity of iron is considered as 20mg/kg to 60mg/kg ( Iron poisoning , 2017).
Anything more than 60mg/kg can cause severe toxicity, and may lead to severe
morbidity and mortality ( Iron poisoning , 2017). There are 5 different stages of
iron toxicity, however, not every individual will go through every stage. During the
first 6 hours, the first stage, mainly gastrointestinal symptoms will arise ( Iron
poisoning , 2017). This includes abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, hematemesis
(vomiting of blood) and hematochezia (blood in faeces) ( Iron poisoning , 2017).
The second stage, between 6 to 24 hours, often appears to be a recovery stage, when
in fact the toxic amount of iron consumed is absorbed (Yuen Gossman, 2017).
Recurrence of gastrointestinal symptoms, shock and metabolic acidosis, iron induced
coagulopathy, hepatic dysfunction cardiomyopathy and renal failure are the
symptoms that occur during the next 6 72 hours, the third stage (Yuen Gossman,
2017). The fourth stage occurs over the next 2 to 5 days and involves the increasing
of aminotransferase levels and the possible further development to hepatic failure (
Iron poisoning , 2017). The fifth and final stage lasts 4 6 weeks and includes pyloric
or proximal bowel scarring and obstruction due to the gastrointestinal mucosa healing

Supply Chain Optimization At Hugo Boss Essay

These items were rarely repeated once featured in a specific collection. Fashion
items for which inventory was depleted were permanently stocked out. Fashion
items needed to be designed, prototyped, sampled, and presented to buyers
associated with the more than 200 Hugo Boss bodywear and hosiery retail accounts
(Exhibit 9 delineates the key steps involved in bringing a collection of fashion items
to market). The division s procurement and production management team negotiated
production capacity and established production schedules with contract
manufacturers and assisted them with raw material procurement and workforce
scheduling (Exhibit 10). The design, prototyping, and preproduction steps were
skipped for NOS items, for which the division needed only to plan production,
perform quality checks, and arrange for shipment from the factory, warehouse
storage, and delivery to retail accounts7. Impetus for Choosing NOS Items for the
SCO Pilot In 2004, Moros had been thinking hard about what changes could be
made to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the division s supply chain.
Operational performance metrics for the last half of the year revealed average
availability for NOS items to be 97.9%, not bad, but still shy of the 100% product
availability guarantee.8 Moros was concerned that retail partners such as Oy

The Success Of The Doomsday Machine
In Diplomacy, authored by Henry Kissinger, the lack of respect to the differing the
balance of power principles in separate countries of europe Europe, the bullying
strategies by Germany, the poor diplomatic alliances of Germany, Austria, France,
Britain and Russia, and the lack of understanding of differing Military policies by
Germany all lead to the Doomsday Machine. The Doomsday Machine was made up
of all the actions that resulted in the ripping apart of the diplomatic alliances, with
each alliance having too much at stake to permit the Concert of Europediplomacyto
function. Instead, the Concert of Europe and its ideas about the balance of power
were abolished. Kissinger mainly discusses the multiple diplomatic alliances that led
to the inevitable breakout of war. Most of the conflicts could have been avoided, but
many of the leaders of the European countries, mainly Germany and Russia, seemed
not to consider the long term implications of their decisions. Germany s actions
started diplomatic disputes with France, Britain, and Russia. The three countries
inherently formed an alliance with each other and isolated Germany in Europe. On
the part of Russia, their main objective seemed to start a war instead of look for
peace or seek a compromise. The leaders were often unwilling to politically negotiate
because they had much of their own land and activities on the Eastern front, and
therefore almost nothing to lose. The Territorial problems presented in the Treaty of
Dell s Marketing Strategy Essay
Company Overview
Dell is among the world s leading computer manufacturers that has transformed and
diversified into variety of business segments over the years. Products range from
Dell PowerEdge servers, Power Vault, Dell EMC storage systems as well as
PowerConnect switches for corporate clients. For individuals and professional
customers products range from Dell Precision workstations, OptiPlex desktops,
Dimension desktops, Inspiron and Latitude notebooks. Apart from these core
products, the company also offer products and services range including printers,
projectors, Axim handhelds, and other accessories. More recently, the company has
announced intentions to explore LCD television/computer monitors as well as digital

Using the same infrastructure it has been able to carry out its marketing strategies in
new offices as well. However, Dell differentiate in its marketing tactics in that it
believes in establishing a brick and mortar market presence. This is why the
company has established sales offices and manufacturing outlets across North
America, Europe, Asia and South America. This way it has been able to gauge the
local customers needs as well as services desired (Official Website 2004).
Apart from the above customer level niche marketing, Dell also believes in
reducing competition through collaboration. Unlike other leaders in the industry
such as HP and Compaq, Dell does not believe in taking over existing competitors
to eliminate competition. Instead the company have always pride itself in using
partnerships and associations for integrated marketing. For example Xerox s
addition to the company as a partner for providing printing products and services
has served the purpose of integrating one more technology to its lists of
comprehensive business services. As James Vanderslice, Vice Chairman of Dell
says: By adding Xerox to our roster of preferred printing partners, we are even
better equipped to serve our customers with a full range of office printing
technologies that provide end to end solutions. The Xerox brand is synonymous with
quality, technology leadership and world class services. We share these core values. (

Essay On Brain Stimulation
At baseline, before stimulation, it was found that the more depressed an individual
was, the less activation there was in the prefrontal lobes and caudate nucleus
(Teneback et. al, 1999). Teneback et. al (1999) also noted that following high
frequency treatment, they noticed that the people who responded to the treatment
had increased inferior frontal gyrus activity compared to those who did not respond
to treatment and days later they also had decreased medial temporal activity. The
prediction is that while both the responders and non responders showed changes in a

al, 2012). It was also found that better outcomes occurred for patients that were
younger with a lower baseline depression (Carpenter et. al, 2012). Studies have found
improvement in cognitive functioning along with symptoms of depression. The
improvement of depression symptoms was linked with an improvement in
visuospatial memory, verbal memory, long term memory recall, working memory,
information processing speed, and orientation (Serafini et. al, 2015). It is predicted
that the improvement in cognitive functioning occurs due to the relief of symptoms,
but it is also postulated that the improvement of cognitive function improves
depressive symptoms (Serafini et. al, 2015; Kedzior et. al, 2015). However, more
research needs to be done to determine the temporal precedence and to better
understand the cognitive improvement. Research is still being done to determine the
best techniques to have the maximum impact when using TMS to treat depression.
Currently, the length of stimulation and number of sessions is standardized, so little
to no research is being completed. Two weeks of daily sessions with a 30 second
cycle, 2 seconds stimulation and 28 seconds off, repeated 40 times per session. Since
this protocol has been proven to be effective in countless studies, there is not a rush
to find a better alternative. It was found that people who improve with low frequency
stimulation get worse with high frequency stimulation,
Chain Of Command Paper
In this response, I will go into detail and explain three organizational principles that
are used to structure law enforcement agencies. Those principles that I will talk
about are Chain of Command, Unity of Command, and Span of Control I will
provide reasoning to backup my position for better understanding. Chain of
Command Chain of command, also referred to as a scalar principle, is an
organization mechanism that establishes formal lines of communication within a
police department (Cordner, 2016, p.116). I am sure that we all have heard the
term chain of command, but what does this exactly means. I am not a police
officer, however, I am a security officers. One thing in this industry that I ve
learned is that if I have any concerns that needs to be addressed the my first contact
will be the Sergeant. The chain of command is establishes a direct path between
every person in the department and the chief (Cordner, 2016,p. 116). The Sergeant
in my department is the first line supervisor to contact. In other cases the Chain of
Command is useful for when there are some orders that are given that only a
particular supervisor is needed, you will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A subordinate should not be expected to report to more than one superior or to take
orders from more than one superior (Cordner, 2016, p.119). In my opinion, I agree
that on subordinate shouldn t take orders from more than one superior. However,
these situations will begin to start confusion. From my personal experience, I was
in a situation where I was confused about whose instructions to actually follow.
Nevertheless, as your them being your supervisors you wouldn t want to ignore
their orders. I believe it s important to one directive because to follow one directive
more than more can be confusing. Nevertheless, if something was to go wrong, you
can go back to who gave you those

  • 2. Neoclassical Theory Of Keynesian Theory ECOP2011 Where are the Neoclassical elements in the Neoclassical Keynesian synthesis? In what way does it differ from the Cambridge (UK) view of Keynesian economics? Intro The Neoclassical Keynesian synthesis contains theoretical principles and ideas from both the Neoclassical school of economic thought and Keynes General Theory. The UK Cambridge Post Keynesian view of economics also contains elements from both these schools, yet the Neoclassical Keynesian synthesis and the UK Cambridge Keynesian bodies of economic thought differ in their views, methods and ideas. The two schools utilise different models to reach the similar conclusion that the economy will tend towards full employment equilibrium in a long run situation a conclusion that complements a Neoclassical ideology or perspective of capitalism as a market based organisation of society s production, distribution and consumption. It can be argued, then, that although there are several examples of Neoclassical principles within the Neoclassical Keynesian synthesis, that the general acceptance of a general equilibrium situation in the long run is the defining Neoclassical feature. The paper will first examine the Neoclassical elements in the synthesis school of thought, with reference to its defining IS/LM model, the Phillips Curve and the Solow Swan Growth model. The UK Cambridge Keynesian school rejects Hicks and Hansens IS /LM model, and instead utilises proportionately more Keynesian ideas in its body of
  • 3. Brutus and his bad decisions and misfortunes Brutus: A Tragic Hero The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare depicts a tragic hero, or one who has high standing and causes his own downfall. The tragic hero is Brutus, and he makes multiple and ultimately fatal mistakes that lead to his enlightenment and then his death. Brutus death is the result of many misfortunes, including being herded into the conspiracy and thus aiding in the death of Caesar, hearing of the death of his loyal wife, and waging a war against Rome. Brutus negative characteristics are his flawed reasoning and bad judgment. While still planning Caesar s murder, Ciceros name is brought up and it is suggested that he be included in the conspiracy. However, Brutus is against this thought, saying that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And you shall speak/ in the same pulpit whereto I am going. / After my speech is ended (945). This is a bad decision on his part because by allowing Antony to speak last, he has allowed Antony to use his words against him. As seen in the text, it is much easier to persuade when speaking last than when speaking first. After being chased out of Rome alongside Cassius, another misfortune is his fight with him over money problems. Brutus claims that Cassius has become greedy. He is furious that Cassius is not helping him even though they are allies. However, the money that Brutus wants is actually the money that Cassius is taking from the soldiers who buy their ranks. While he could just as easily do the same, he defines himself as too noble a person to do such a thing. Let me tell you, Cassius, you yourself/ Are much condemned to have an itching palm (966). Cassius is offended, and tells Brutus that he should be glad that they are allies. Brutus enlightenment occurs around the time he commits suicide. Right before his demise, with his final dying breath, he mentions Caesar to put him at ease. Farewell, good Strato Caesar, now be still; / I killed thee with half so good a will (997). There are many opinions as to what kind of character Brutus is. He seems to be a sympathetic character above all else. Impatient of my absence, / And grief that young Octavius with Mark Antony/ Have made themselves so strong for with her death/
  • 4. The Tragedy Of Tristan The days passed slowly, each day becoming more and more unbearable. My body still felt weak, and my ankle refused to heal, as did my heart. The wound that Tristan had left was worse than any physical pain I could possibly imagine. I wasn t blaming myself anymore, though. Instead, I felt a deep anger. I didn t understand how Tristan could throw away everything that we had. I finally had everything I could ever want. A supportive man would have been thrilled, and might have offered his assistance, but Tristan was selfish and insecure. I didn t need him. Except for the small fact that I did need him. I didn t think that anything could fill the vast void, until Louis invited me to that ball. After the invitation to my very first ball, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I hadn t left its embrace for a week, and being away from it was refreshing. Louis strong arms barely wavered as we bounced down the hallway. It felt nice to be held by him. He was warm, and despite his strength, very comforting. The pace he walked at soothed me, and I started to feel a little tired, but I tried to keep my eyes open. I didn t want to miss this amazing opportunity. I was going to make my own dress! I had seen many fabrics in my life. I used to go to the fabric shop and pick out things to make new dresses with. The fabrics in the shop were dull, and some smelled as if they d been worn for years and never washed. I couldn t afford to buy the brighter colors, but I would stare at them, wishing for even a touch of the delicate fabric. I thought I had seen some of the world s most amazing fabrics, and when I entered the workshop, I learned how wrong I really was. I was surrounded by magnificent colors and textures, each fighting for my attention. I looked over to a roll of baby blue satin, and then
  • 5. Luke Aikins Research Paper Photo Credit: strideheavensent.tumblr.com With more than 16,000 jumps to his credit, professional skydiver Luke Aikins has performed many heart stopping stunts, but his latest feat tops them all. On July 30, 2016, the 42 year old daredevil became the first man in the world to leap off a plane from an altitude of 25,000 feet without a wingsuit or parachute! Instead, he relied on a net that measured 100 by 100 feet, or less than one third the size of a football field, to break his fall and help him land safely. The stunt, aptly named Heaven Sent, was so dangerous that the United States Parachute Association (USPA) initially denied the skydiver s request to jump without a parachute. However, the association had a change of heart just minutes before the event, which meant that Akins had no backup during the historic leap. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At about 10,000 feet, the skydiver handed his oxygen mask to one of two team members who were doing the jump as well. They, of course, had

It is very easy to look back at an event or period of time and make allegations about why things transpired or why they were not stopped. But one thing is for sure, Geronimo is an Icon in American and Indian history and always will be know as the last hold

  • 8. Ra Essay Experts aren t quite sure why people develop RA, however Judith Frank, MD claims that years of research found that susceptible people include those who have a genetic predisposition to RA, environmental factors, lifestyle factors, experience significant hormonal balance disruption, or experience intestinal microbial changes. The genetic predisposition to the diseaseis a specific gene, HLA DR4, which has been found in approximately 65% of Caucasian RA cases. The CDC states that smoking increases a person s risk of RA by 1.3 to 2.4 times, and can also cause one s symptoms to advance more quickly than someones who does not smoke. In addition to smoking, Healthline states that those who are overweight are at a higher risk for developing RA. This may be because individuals who are overweight tend to have a more fatty, unhealthy diet or lack in physical activity. The Mayo Clinic states that women who have been diagnosed with RA at age 55 of younger are more likely to have been overweight. With that being said, it is suggested to maintain a healthy weight in order to help prevent RA. Marc C. Hochberg, co writer of the book Rheumatoid Arthritis, states that there are suggestions that red meat may cause an increased risk for RA, and that intake of fruit and oily fish may protect against RA, but all of these reports need confirmation (Hochberg). There are ongoing studies that strive to find the cause and discover better treatments for RA. According to the Arthritis Foundation, a new study has been looking at the effects of nerve stimulation on RA patients, which is believed to help control the inflammation of the disease. Kevin J. • 10. Similarities Between 1984 And The Devolution Of Language... When describing Anthony Burgess s invented language Nadsat, the writer and psychologist Theodore Dalrymple stated that as a linguistic invention, it is an equal of Orwell s Newspeak (Dalrymple). Newspeak, the language in 1984 sponsored by the government Ingsoc, and Nadsat, the Russified English spoken in A Clockwork Orange, are both meant to be devolved forms of English that are inferior to those spoken in the real world. Both dialects are prominent throughout their stories, showing the importance of conveying their themes. Newspeakand Nadsatare very effective in making their respective points on the dangers of devolving language and stifling free will, but the ways in which they do so differ significantly. Orwell uses the storylines in 1984 as an expression of beliefs on the devolution of language, while Burgess uses the devolution of language to enhance the storyline of A Clockwork Orange. Orwell designed Newspeak to demonstrate the importance of language to ideas. Orwell thought literature was dying out, which he connected with dying language (Kazin 235). Language is not only the means by which an idea is expressed, but also the means by which an idea is thought. The purposes of Newspeak are to allow for the expression of thoughts Ingsoc deemed proper and make impossible the expression of thoughts Ingsoc deemed heretical (Kendrick 344). According to Orwell, control of thought follows control of language. The government in 1984 means to control the language, and
  • 11. The Causes Of Famine And Poverty As a young girl, I recall watching a documentary about a young mother in Africa who cooked mud cakes under the blinding sun to put some source of calcium into her starving childrens body. The cakes were made from dried dirt which was dug from the ground. While children in first world nations take for granted the meals they receive at home and in school, every day millions of men and women across the world struggle to feed their children a nutritious meal. As children in the richest countries in the world throw out vast amounts of food and have developed particular appetites for certain foods, children in developed countries go to bed with an empty stomach. Many parents do not understand the impact of raising their children with a silver spoon in their mouth and how it can shape them into selfish adults in the long run. It is embarrassing as an American citizen to know that while our country is facing obesity, people in other countries are dying from starvation. Most individuals believe that famineand povertyare merely natural phenomenon based on geography and environment. However, these individuals fail to realize that these issues are rooted in social relations. In order to eradicate famine and poverty within society, particular social relations need to be eliminated. The popular belief of why famines occur and remain to impact many nations around the world is because of geographic location. However, tragic famines like the Irish potato famine reveal that it is merely
  • 12. Woodrow Wilson Contributions Woodrow Wilson (1856 1924) was elected President on the basis of domestic issues in 1912, and re elected in 1916. He based his 1916 re election campaign around the slogan he kept us out of war , and had worked hard to broker a compromise peace. In early 1917 Berlin decided to launch all out submarine warfare designed to sink American ships bringing supplies to Britain; in the Zimmermann Telegram it proposed a military alliance with Mexico to fight a war against the US. The nation was poorly armed when it went to war in April 1917, but it had millions of potential fresh soldiers, billions of dollars, and huge supplies of raw materials needed by the Allies. Officially Wilson kept the US independent of the Allies. In 1918 Wilson took personal control of negotiations with Germany, including the armistice. He issued his Fourteen Points, his view of a post war world that could avoid another terrible conflict. It had an enormous impact on both sides in Europe, and made him the man of the hour in Paris. A leader of the Progressive Movement, he assembled a high powered group of academic advisors to help him in Paris but his distrustful personality led him to break with a series of close advisors, most notably Colonel House. He made a major blunder by refusing to bring along any prominent Republicans to Paris, which politicised the American debate and weakened his support. His main goal was a long term solution to end warfare based on the League of Nationsand self determination of
  • 13. Explain What Level Of Proof Is Required In A Criminal Trial 1.What level of proof is required in a criminal trial? On the other hand, a jury trial is when members of the public act as jurors and provide their feedback to the judge once they hear the evidence provided. The prosecuting attorney needs to agree to a trial without jurors present. Once it is agreed the judge will commence the case without a jury present. For an established or up and coming band in 90s there were four possible income sources: touring, merchandising, recordings and publishing. They were also able to get music for free, because there was no enforceable law forbidding them. The technology has also changed the relationship between the record label and the artist. Record label would pay all the costs in a typical contract, which covers studio costs, session musicians, producers and engineers. Music is now being recorded in digital format and not analog, which reduces the costs together with distribution being digital downloads and streaming. This means that artists can take care of the whole process from start to finish. MUSIC PRODUCTION Technology is like a river and can change its direction completely. It can move in a different direction from what once was considered to be true and into one expected logically in the future. The cost and accessibility barrier is lowered with every new technology arriving and therefore the competition is increasing (Peter Alexander, 1994). In late 80s digital music recording was emerging, but with technological limitations like computer memory and speed, the artist couldn t do more than sampling. In early and mid 90s hardware got better and more
  • 15. Transformative Learning In The Process Of The Adult... The adult learning process is complicated to explain because one definition cannot truly encompass all the different ways and reasons people are continuing to learn after mandatory schooling. Jack Mezirow came up with a concept known as transformative learning to describe the adult learning process (Merriam, et al., 2014). Transformative learningis defined as making meaning out of one s experiences (Merriam, et al., 2014). Creating meaning for our experiences allows adults to learn once reflection has occurred. Many stages are involved in the process, but reflection is the one that helps change the experiences into knowledge, new skills, or a change in attitude (Merriam, et al., 2014). Experiential learning also follows the reflection process, as the learner practices and reflects on mistakes or good outcomes, knowledge is gained (Merriam, et al., 2014). Motivational learning and self directed learning can also relate to transformative learning because there is a drive or desire to accomplish a goal for the individual, which Mezirow theorizes is an essential part of transformative learning (Merriam, et al., 2014). Individual transformation is a precursor for learning to extend to societal change or influence on others learning (Merriam, et al., 2014). Transformative learning does not outline the ways in which learning occurs but states that we are constantly learning if we are willing to stop and reflect on the experiences and then change based on the information. • 17. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bridge This report aims to examine the advantages and shortcomings of four different types of bridge, namely the truss, suspension, beam, and cantilever bridges. Secondly, it evaluates three forces that act upon these bridges г…Ў compression, tension, and shear г…Ў and how each kind of bridge handles the forces. Lastly, it includes a explanation of the Tacoma Bridgeincident and a description of the author s bridge. Since tension, compression, and shear are to be discussed for each kind of bridge, here are definitions for those forces. Tension acts to expand or lengthen the thing upon which it is acting (Basics). Compression, the opposite of tension, is a force that attempts to compress or shorten whatever it is acting upon (Basics). Another force, shear, occurs when two forces move in opposite directions on the bridge (Discovery). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the middle parts of these bridges, there is only one side support, making it weaker than other sections of the bridge (NYLN). On this type of bridge, tension and compression are the main forces. When there is a load, the bridge experiences tension in the upper part of the cantilever span and compression in the span under the deck (Hagler). As long as these forces remain balanced, the bridge functions well, but, for example, if the compression force becomes more than the tension force, then the lower supports of the bridge could collapse (Hagler). Though not as prominent a force, shear still acts upon cantilever bridges when a load passes along the suspended deck; since the deck is not supported by a beam underneath and has only one side support, it is the weakest point of the bridge (Hagler). The load, in addition to gravity, pushes downward while the beams on either side of it push back upwards; the cantilever of the bridge distributes this force on the deck so that it does not collapse

Canada has been well regarded with its attitude towards multiculturalism, establishing an Act that protects the rights of people who have different beliefs and the encouragement for all cultures to work together. While being the only country to have a policy such as the Multiculturalism Act, racism has been a part of Canadian history, including but not limited to the colonialismof Indigenous Peoplesand the internment of Japanese Canadians. The effects of colonialism on indigenous culture and the treatment of Japanese Canadians are reflected in the novels Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson and Obasan by Joy Kogawa. The main characters of the novels, Lisamarie in Monkey Beach and Naomi in Obasan, both come to terms with the effects of growing up in minority communities in British Columbia, as well as discovering their own identities, by reflecting on their pasts during a time of family tragedies. Lisamarie struggles with accepting and understanding her spirituality in a family that mostly ignores and denies their connections to the spirituality of their ancestors, due to the effects of colonialism and residential schools. Presidential vs parliamentary systems Essay Presidential versus parliamentary systems ILONA MГЃRIA SZILГЃGYI MiklГіs ZrГnyi National Defence University, Budapest, Hungary This article is a comparison of presidential and parliamentary systems. They are the two most popular types of democratic governments. They have common and dissimilar features. In both presidential and parliamentary systems the chief executive can be removed from office by the legislature but the way of it is different. Dissimilar feature is the election of the chief executive and the debate styles. I present the two best examples of these systems: the USA (presidentialism) and the UK (parliamentary system). The President is both the chief executive and the head of state. The President is elected independently of the legislature. The powers invested in the President are usually balanced against those vested in the legislature. In the American presidential system, the legislature must debate and pass various bills. The President has the power to veto the bill, preventing its adoption. However, the legislature may override the President s veto if they can muster enough votes. The American President s broadest powers rest in foreign affairs. The President has the right to deploy the military in most situations, but does not have the right to officially declare war. More recently the American President requested the right to approve treaties without the consent of the legislature. The American Congress denied this bill and was able to override the President s veto [1]. A presidential system is a system of government where an executive branch exists and presides (hence the name) separately from the legislature, to which it is not accountable and which cannot, in normal circumstances, dismiss it. It owes its origins to the medieval monarchies of France, England and Scotland where executive authority was vested in the Crown, not in meetings of the estates of the realm (i.e., parliament): the Estates General of France, the Parliament of

Can fictional narratives such as novels produce knowledge, and if so, what kind? Consider this question in relation to Ian McEwan s novel Atonement. It would be very difficult for anyone to find a person who stated that historical or descriptive narratives did not produce knowledge. Can the same thing be said for the genre of historical fiction? What is it about historical narratives that give readers a sense that going into it, that they will become knowledgeable about a certain topic? What is considered knowledge in a historical narrative? I would say what a makes a historical narrative is that it contains facts such as dates, accounts of events, and information about the lives of people. These types of things can be measured through various forms of tests. (we know how much emphasis is put on what a person can recall). As a result, a reader may say that historical narratives are much more objective. Also, the writers of these historical novels are able to make connections to the modern day with the readers. Mandatory military service should not go into effect because it would harm our country and its citizens. America was founded on the precepts of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. One of his most famous poems, Where the Sidewalk Ends shares the title with what may be his most well known book. This poem is a very meticulously worded work, and although it may be published in a children s book, it can be understood and very meaningful to older generations. This piece has a depth and wisdom that may be well beyond the comprehension of young minds, and it can be interpreted and analyzed in many ways and can reveal a variety of themes. When first reading this short poem, the initial theme that stands out to me, personally is the idea of the change that occurs during aging. It seems that the stark contrast between the imagery of the first stanza, versus the second stanza reveals the dramatic difference between childhood and adulthood. Childhood can be thought of as more gentle, airy, and even innocent. The third lineof the first stanza says the grass grows soft and white... (Silverstein, n.d.). This gives that notion of gentleness, and innocence associated with childhood. Many think of the color white and associate it with innocence, maybe because of their religious practices. Religious imagery sometimes depicts heavenly beings in white robes, possibly surrounded by white wisps of clouds or white rays of light. The word soft is also associated with gentleness. Many would imagine the soft grass, and think back to a time in their childhood on a

The method used most would be lethal injections, due to its quickness, effectiveness, and pain less results. My first reason why I believe the death penalty should be executed more often is because it could possibly help the problem of overcrowding in prisons. States such as Texas and California, mainly suffer from this problem due to its vast population and crime rate. Instead of keeping inmates for life in prison, its better to execute the one s with the most serious crimes than to release them or

Opponents suggest that students should not be formally charged with bullying. They argue that students do not have the capacity to understand the consequences of their actions. He was the fifth of six surviving children. John enjoyed his childhood, but his father was haunted by alcoholism and spells of madness. His father had often been dismissed as a crazy and drunken actor. Like most children, John aspired to follow in his father s footsteps; therefore, John blossomed into a performing actor and like his father suffered from an extreme case of alcoholism. Limping off the stage, he charged the theaters rear door. Booth mounted his horse and galloped into the night. Union soldiers searched for Booth for twelve days, but eventually surrounded him in a tobacco shed near Port Royal, Virginia. Twelve days of travel, with an injured leg, brought the assassin less than one hundred miles form Ford s Theater. After refusing to surrender, Booth was shot and killed. In retrospect, if the Ford s hadn t decided to decorate the presidential box with American flags, Booth probably wouldn t have tripped, fallen, and lunged onto the wooden stage, therefore seriously injuring his leg. Booth s injury kept him from escaping any further than Virginia. His injury delayed the escape plan, consequently allowing the Union forces time to find the assassin. Booth s injury on the flag created the opportunity for the Union to end his life. It is ironic that Booth tripped over an American flag because of Booth s political motives to assassinate the president. Booth did not agree with Lincoln s republican ideals and efforts to preserve the union. Booth argued for slavery and believed that it was one of the greatest blessings...that God ever bestowed on a favored nation[2]. Yet this was not the first sign of chivalry existing, it originally dated back to ancient times but The Song of Roland made it more well known. The song was composed between 1098 1100 and describes a great inspiring story. This very song is what kicked off the idea of chivalry and what its rules and following are. The song is over 8th century knights and how they performed these heroic acts while being very chivalrous. Roland in this song is a loyal defender of his lord and while telling the story the song describes the code of chivalry and its code of conduct. Comparing The Kite Runner And Mister Pip Though The Kite Runner and Mister Pip were both captivating novels in which each have the potential to teach valuable lessons and broaden the reader s perspective to grasp a better understanding of life, I believe that The Kite Runner had a better ending and was able to more effectively display the four elements of good endings which consists of unity, resolution, character growth, and recurrent symbols and themes. The element resolution is when characters in a narrative face various conflicts and challenges which are eventually resolved or come to an end. In Mister Pip, many of the conflicts were malleable and open to various interpretations as imagination was frequently used. The main character, Matilda, used her imagination and a fictional character to help her resolve internal conflict and challenge difficult situations, which is not the most realistic way to address problematic situations. In The Kite Runner, the author used the main character, Amir, to exhibit feelings of guilt and internal anger. The Effect of Trade Balance on National Income Growth INTRODUCTION BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY The attainment of balance of trade is always a critical factor in the economic development of many nations. This simply means that continuous trade deficits and surpluses are undesirable. The world has become a global village in which different countries interact with themselves and get involved in business transactions and trade. This kind of trade between countries is known as international trade which involves the exchange of goods and services between nations. Some countries are more or less deficit nations which mean they import more than they export, while some countries produce more than is absorbed by their domestic economy so they export the surpluses. Either of these actions means that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He proposed as an example to suppose that he, a Frenchman, exported French wine and imported British coal, turning a profit. He supposed he was in France, and sent a Cask of wine which was worth 50 francs to England. The custom house would record an export of 50 francs. If in England, the wine sold for 70 francs, which he then used to buy coal, which he imported into France and was found to be worth 90 francs in France, he would have made a profit of 40 francs. But the custom house would say that the value of imports exceeded the value of exports and was trade deficit against the ledger of France. By reductio ad absurdum, Bastiat argued that the national trade deficit was an indicator of a successful economy, rather than a failing one. Bastiat predicted that a successful, growing economy would result in greater trade deficits, and an unsuccessful, shrinking economy would result in lower trade deficits. This was later, in the 20th century, affirmed by economist Milton Friedman. Trade deficits can be healthy if it is used in importing capital goods that increases output. Small trade deficits are generally not considered to be harmful to either the importing or exporting economy. However, when a national trade imbalance expands beyond prudence (generally thought to be several percentage of GDP, for several years), adjustment tend to occur. While unsustainable imbalances may persist for long periods,
