This document discusses modal verbs used for polite requests and expressing abilities. For polite requests using "I", "May I" and "Could I" are equally polite ways to request permission, while "Can I" is less formal. For polite requests using "you", "Would you" and "Will you" have the same meaning, but "Would you" is more common and polite. To express abilities, "Can" and "Are able to" are used to ask if someone has the power or skill to do something.

 To express that someone has the power or
skill to do something, can and be able are
used.
