A laptop keyboard is a peripheral input tool modeled after the typewriter keyboard that uses buttons or keys to electronically input data. Since the 1970s, keyboards have been the primary way for users to enter information into computer systems, along with computer mice in the 1980s. Keyboard keys typically have characters printed on them and pressing a key corresponds to a single character, though some symbols require pressing multiple keys at once or in sequence. In addition to character keys, other keys trigger computer commands. Modern computers interpret key presses through software rather than hardware.
