Mock Interview
Feedback
for Rahul K (Sample Document)
Overview
Rahul K (Sample Document)
August 4, 2021
Areas Evaluated
● Past Experience
● Behavioral Round
● Product Design
Past Experience
Strengths
● You were able to demonstrate
positive traits - hustle, hard-
working & entrepreneurial
Areas of concern
● Communication - not
answering the question, long
winded answers.
● User problem and insights
which led to the project were
missing.
● Reasoning for some of the
product decisions was unclear.
Question Interviewer’s Goal Feedback
Tell me about yourself Communication - clear articulation
Good answer. Started personal intro on good
note but then got jumbled up once you started
explaining the products you worked on.
Tell me about the work you are doing at the
current company.
What were you solving for?
Communication
Understanding of user’s problems.
Could not clearly explain the exact work you are
doing. It seemed like you are working on multiple
things and all those were getting mixed up.
What does your product do?
Follow up of previous question to get clarity on
the work.
Product’s description did not come out clearly.
Interviewer was looking for high level
understanding of what product does, so as to go
into depth.
You were explaining the product in terms of the
all the things you did to build - we first did that,
then did MVP etc, instead of giving description of
your product
To-Do: Prepare an elevator pitch for your
product. Write down the script and practice.
Question Interviewer’s Goal Feedback
How did you handle this particular edge case?
Why was this done in this particular way and not
the alternate way? (anonymized)
Depth of one’s work, decision making capability
Reasoning did not come out clearly. It is fine to
say that initially you went ahead with a particular
number as threshold and later improved it. But, it
does not come across as good if you say that you
don’t know.
To-Do: Go through own product thoroughly and
think through all the decisions made.
What metrics did you use to track?
Understanding of Metrics.
Goal oriented work.
Did not answer properly. Shared standard
acquisition etc templated metrics, which were too
generic and not specific to your product.
Behavioral Round
Strengths
● Came out as an honest
candidate
Areas of concern
● Interviewer ended up with the
impression that the ‘product
experience’ of the candidate is
weak.
● The candidate may not have
handled complex or large
projects to have faced almost
no conflicts / disagreements
Question Interviewer’s Goal Feedback
Instances of conflict with stakeholders Stakeholder management
Removing one JIRA card from scope of work to
add another to the scope is regular part of PM’s
life. It does not bring out the conflict scenario and
does not give the opportunity to evaluate you.
To-Do: Think of stories where there were strong
conflicts.
Disagreements with stakeholders and how did
you handle it
Stakeholder management - how do you handle
disagreements, how do you collaborate
Good answer. But can make it bit more concise.
Make the exact disagreement point stand out.
Product Design
Strengths
● Didn’t jump to solutions
● Tried understanding the
problem
Areas of concern
● Appeared that you are aware of
some frameworks to solve such
problems but were struggling to
apply.
● Quickly jumped to use case and
solutions. Detailing was missing.
● Wasn’t able to demonstrate how to
think about and measure success of
a product
● Gave an impression that the
candidate may not be well versed
with product development life cycle
Question Interviewer’s Goal Feedback
Design X
* Ability to understand user's experience
(empathy)
* Coming up with solutions
* Good clarification questions. Did not jump to
solutions.
* User problems could be more specific and
detailed. There was a lot of scope for going into
details. You picked up one use case and
immediately jumped to its solutions.
* The problems were not clearly defined. Seemed
as if you are trying to force fit things into an
existing solution in your mind.
Favourite product User centeredness
* Good description of problems you faced while
doing the task before the product came into
picture, but could not answer how this product is
solving the type of problems you used to face
earlier.
Easy to use, good looking UI is description of
your feeling of using the product. It does not
clearly explain how the problem is being solved.
To-Do: This is a standard question. You should
go pre-prepared. Think through all the problems
product is solving for and how.
Opportunities for improvement
Past Experience
● Write down answers for what the company does, what product does, and
what you did, and practice. Go to interview with these answers prepared.
● Understand & practice how to think of success metrics
Behavioral Round
Think of some conflicts you faced earlier
Product Design
● Practice Design Questions. You seem to know the way to solve these
problems but were struggling to apply, because of lack of practice.
● Think through the problems your favourite is solving and how it is solving.
Good luck!
We hope you’ll use these tips to
go out and impress the
interviewer and crack your dream
product job.
