With advances in web technology, mobile devices and wireless networks, mobile connection is not just a trend anymore and instead has become a standard ubiquitous platform. People demand anytime, anywhere access to communication, information, learning and performance support. Learning Management System (LMS) vendors are quickly adapting to meet mobile requirements, but these solutions may be costly and viewed as a low priority in this rough economic landscape. What can your organization do in the meantime to deliver practical information to a scattered employee base and begin measuring value and build a business case for mobile learning? With an obvious business need to deliver timely learning content and performance support, we will show how you how you can rapidly develop and deploy a low cost way of delivering supplemental mobile learning to be delivered to employees’ mobile devices.

Most of us would agree that today’s training or learning strategy is based on more of a learning 2.0 mindset. We are not going to dive to deep into this in this session but we would like to show you how mobile learning is a perfect tool for a learning 2.0 strategy
For me one of the key differences between 1.0 and 2.0 is the realization that learning is not a single event.
Ok now here is where we are at how is add mobile learning going to help me reach my learner and support my learning 2.0 strategy
"Mobile phones are the future of computing, and they are ideally suited for accessing Web services....(The mobile phone will be:)-the device most likely to subsume the PC's computing and informational dominance-the most functional and accessible device for conducting Web search-the natural gateway to Web 2.0 platform applications and services"--E-Week, October 2008 (link)
Here is a profile taken slightly out of context and borrowed from an excellent article I read to make a point about today's learner. This is from an article called “Are You Ready for Mobile Learning?”By Joseph Rene Corbeil and Maria Elena Valdes-CorbeilREAD OUT LOUDJason, a 19-year-old college freshman, woke up early Friday morning to download this week's U.S. History podcast to his iPod. As he got into his car for the one-hour commute to campus, he put in his earbuds and began to listen to his professor's test review session. The lecture ended as he entered the student parking lot. Before exiting the car, Jason received a text message on his phone from Paula, his study partner. She had some questions and wanted to meet up with him in the library before the test. He pulled out his laptop and backpack before locking the car door. By the time he reached the library, Paula was already connected and online at her favorite table. She was busily transferring the professor's lecture notes from the course Web site to her pen drive. "What's the answer to question number three?" she asked as Jason sat down."I don't know," he answered; "Why don't you Google it to find out?""I've got a better idea," she responded. "Why don't you IM the professor? He's online right now."Professor Davis was on his way back to his office from Media Services when a familiar chime let him know that someone was IMing him. He pulled out his phone and read the message...he then typed the response, "Call me." Ten seconds later, his cell phone rang."Hello?""Hi, Dr. Davis. Jason and I are in the library and we are having a hard time answering question number three.""Are you in front of your computer?" Dr. Davis asked."Yes, we are.""Go to this week's lecture notes and review the section on Western Expansion. You'll find what you are looking for there.""Thanks a lot," Paula answered. "We'll see you in class.”
That was a look at a typical collage student situation… once they graduate where do they go
Ok we know who they are and where we are at. Ok before we answer that lets make sure we are all on the same page as far as learning or training basic strategies
Mobile learning offers AccessibilityNot all of our learners are sitting at a desk or in one place all of the time.Mobile phones have the ability you to be with you at all timesReview at time when works best for learner Availability Just in time – information at you finger tips When I have the time Adaptability Options for content types Another way to extending the learning opportunity Training or learning should not be about one point of impact. We are always looking for ways to re-enforce what we are learning or keep information top of mind.

Earlier we established that the mobile phone is the new computerWhat makes a computer productive is its applications. There are a lot of applications available today that are an effective part of a training strategy
