ARTS & CULTURE
2020 marks 25 years
since the Beijing Platform for
Action set out how to remove
the systemic barriers that
hold women back from equal
participation in all areas of life.
Under the umbrella of the UN
Women's campaign and UN 75th
anniversary, IWFCI and ACM are
joined this accelerated awareness
movement with the ZOOM: I am
#GenerationEquality campaign
with the goal of to support
female talents through one of the
most powerful mediums of art
expression, photography.
The six months “ZOOM: I am
Generation Equality” cam
paign took place in three sta
ges.
The campaign’s first stage, the
training has been held between
27 June and 09 July 2020 at WE
Co working space. Trainings
covering the topics of human
rights, copyright, and creative
industry were held by advisory
consultants from the UN and other
experts from different fields for
120 participants by both online
and in-class trainings, to enhance
female talents’ capacities. These
participants should introduce art
works taken after this training, and
should address a range of social
issues covering theme Generation
Equality.
The second stage, a
photography competition has
been held from August to October
2020, across two categories. The
first category is Portrait in Black
and White. Submissions in this
category may depict role models,
heroines, or other subjects chosen
by photographers. The second
category is Storytelling in the
context of “Workplace Inequality.”
The Storytelling category allows
participants to apply mixed media
on their artwork to ultimately
demonstrate their ideas.
The third final stage designed to
feature artists’ works and organise
public exhibition. In this regards,
organisers received 39 artworks
from 26 photographers in two
categories (Portrait, Workplace),
and in two different levels
(Professional and Amateur). Based
on the quality of art works and
essays, the jury has selected the best
12 artists to feature in the “ZOOM
: I am Generation Equality”
online exhibition. Between 15th
December 2020 and 15th January
2021 the exhibition introduces
participants on social media, using
the #GenerationEquality hashtag.
Across the exhibition jury and
organizers should select the best
four art works covering above-
mentioned categories in two
different levels and only Audience
awards will be presented to the
most popular work on social media.
“In my opinion, photography is
not just a picture, it is actually an
expression. I felt that I could express
my feelings and share them through
the medium of photography. When
I started going to the ZOOM I am
Generation Equality workshop,
the idea developed even further.
It occurred to me that I can shed
lights on issues that I am concerned
about. I was expecting to learn the
technical side of photography, but
it covered social issues and how it
can be expressed, therefore, I am
really glad, I was able to attend this
workshop. I was hesitant at first, but
with encouragement I decided to
participate in a photo contest by my
“No Need Labels!!!” artwork. In
my opinion the most pressing issue
faced by women is social attitude.
Women can have the same level of
education and abilities as men do,
but somehow, the terms describe
women are more negative compared
to men. I see people putting labels
on women everywhere. Women
can’t break free from these
entangled labels and it stops them
from achieving their goals. I am
not saying man and woman are the
same, but they should be an equal.
That is the idea I wanted to share
with my artwork. I am so thankful
for the project team and sponsors. I
am a Generation Equality” said by
participant of the project, Amateur
photographer Ch.Itgel. The
organizers are looking forward to
organize the next edition of Zoom
project in 2021 to engage even more
women in creative process and give
them chance to express their ideas
through photography.
Taking this opportunity, ACM
would like to thank all our partners
and supporters, specially IWFCI,
Batzorig Foundation, Australian
Embassy and lastly a project main
donor ACM-US by supporting this
“ZOOM I am Generation Equality”
campaign and made possible
Mongolian female talents to thrive.
