It is, yet again, my privilege and honour in my role as an Honorary
Golden Benefactor of ACM, to greet you, the readers, as you re-
view the Arts Council of Mongolia Annual Report 2017.
To repeat what I have said in previous years, the work of ACM is
very important because the cultural heritage of Mongolia is part of
the soul of Mongolia. I saw increasing evidence of this importance
during my visit in October 2017.
Mongolia has been through some trying economic times in recent
years and it is now evident that “recovery” strategies are starting
to work and development is again becoming active. Interesting-
ly, there is an increased focus on the economic benefit of tour-
ism and the hope that the dependence on mining will decrease.
Tourism will only prosper if there are exciting things for tourists to
visits. This makes the Mongolian cultural heritage of even greater
importance and the role of the hard working people at ACM in
preserving that heritage of even greater significance.
I am very pleased to see increasing evidence of government in-
volvement in the heritage conservation area but that involvement must be guided by the expertise,
knowledge and professionalism that has been amassed in the Arts Council of Mongolia. I am also
very pleased to see that, despite spending constraints, the government has started to allocate funds
for preservation of the built heritage.
Mongolia has a proud heritage, as much in its people and its landscape, as in its built heritage. It con-
tinues to be important that the youth of Mongolia are taught to value that heritage and to take pride
in the fact that it exists. It will only continue to exist if everyone works to preserve it.
The efforts of the dedicated people who staff the Arts Council of Mongolia, the Directors of ACM and
the members, are committed to the task of preservation. The people of Mongolia are very fortunate
to have such dedicated professionals working on their behalf but it must be remembered that they
can only do this with your support.
With this greeting I wish each and every one of you, the readers, a very happy and prosperous 2018,
I thank you for your past support and I earnestly commend you to continue that support in this year
and to do whatever you can to increase support for ACM.
GREETING BY HONORARY GOLDEN BENEFACTOR ROGER PERRY

  • 47. It is, yet again, my privilege and honour in my role as an Honorary Golden Benefactor of ACM, to greet you, the readers, as you re- view the Arts Council of Mongolia Annual Report 2017. To repeat what I have said in previous years, the work of ACM is very important because the cultural heritage of Mongolia is part of the soul of Mongolia. I saw increasing evidence of this importance during my visit in October 2017. Mongolia has been through some trying economic times in recent years and it is now evident that “recovery” strategies are starting to work and development is again becoming active. Interesting- ly, there is an increased focus on the economic benefit of tour- ism and the hope that the dependence on mining will decrease. Tourism will only prosper if there are exciting things for tourists to visits. This makes the Mongolian cultural heritage of even greater importance and the role of the hard working people at ACM in preserving that heritage of even greater significance. I am very pleased to see increasing evidence of government in- volvement in the heritage conservation area but that involvement must be guided by the expertise, knowledge and professionalism that has been amassed in the Arts Council of Mongolia. I am also very pleased to see that, despite spending constraints, the government has started to allocate funds for preservation of the built heritage. Mongolia has a proud heritage, as much in its people and its landscape, as in its built heritage. It con- tinues to be important that the youth of Mongolia are taught to value that heritage and to take pride in the fact that it exists. It will only continue to exist if everyone works to preserve it. The efforts of the dedicated people who staff the Arts Council of Mongolia, the Directors of ACM and the members, are committed to the task of preservation. The people of Mongolia are very fortunate to have such dedicated professionals working on their behalf but it must be remembered that they can only do this with your support. With this greeting I wish each and every one of you, the readers, a very happy and prosperous 2018, I thank you for your past support and I earnestly commend you to continue that support in this year and to do whatever you can to increase support for ACM.
