The Use Of Calvinism By Robert Frost
Robert Frost incorporated Calvinism into his poetic work to emphasize his belief in this Protestant
theological system. Frost lived in a Calvinist society throughout his life, influencing him to believe
in such a system. The death of Frost s family members, drove him to live such a dark life, and
turning to find gratification through Calvinism. Frost made sure to demonstrate the struggle of the
characters in his poetry as if they were trying to escape something that was not possible, such as
Calvinism. Once a human joins this religion, the rest of their life is determined for them and they
are subjected to either hell or rarely heaven. Robert Frost made use of Calvinism throughout his
poetry to emphasize the mindset of such individuals.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are parts of his religion that he must stay true and values that mean something due to his
strong faith. Calvinism is shown strongly throughout this poem, for one example, in that one has a
life to live however, God is ultimately all powerful and in full control of every part of life.
The next example comes from the poem Acquainted With The Night, Frost starts off this poem
by stating I have been one acquainted with night (Frost 1). Looking further into this poem, one
can interpret that the speaker was once drawn to evil, and has gone through struggles in life,
however, he has outwalked this struggle in life. God has put him through this clearly for a
reason and proves that he truly does have all power. Going through tough times, Frost kept his
faith strong, despite believing he was damned. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
/ When far away an interrupted cry/ Came over houses from another street, (Frost 7 9) Frost is
hearing the sounds of a watchman or inner voice talking to him. The voice was not there to tell
him what to do just to remind him that He is always there watching over him. When the speaker
looks up, he sees the luminary clock, (Frost 12) or the moon, he states once again I have been
acquainted with the night, (Frost 14) stating once again the he believes he has been damned. Frost
knows that he technically doesn t have control in any of his choice, and not even the

Conflict resolution in the workplace
Conflict resolution in the workplace Introduction Conflict is a fact in any relationship including
the work area. Still, it is important to emphasize that some conflicts should not be seen as good or
bad, they are just differences. Many times when there are disagreements between players these
issues are left on the table without giving much emphasis. Unfortunately some of these conflicts
have reached a level that ends in a physical altercation. When things get out of proportion, the
sports psychologist is called in to intervene as a third party to mediate the situation. This process
can take weeks. This paper attempts to raise awareness to owners of The Sluggers baseball team,
their coordinators, managers and coaches, and provide them... Show more content on

Now, I stress the fact that these conflicts can happen between teammates, managers to players and
vice versa, or between managers and coaches. Unsolved, or unsatisfactorily resolved conflicts
perceived by one or all parties in the situation can lead to worse consequences, (Jehn, Rupert, Nauta,
2006).
Conflicts do not always come to light immediately because parties will intent to use mechanisms to
deal or solve them. These mechanisms are not always the most appropriate. A manager o coach that
becomes aware of something going wrong with their team should pay attention and try to solve it
before it escalates to another level, (Fisher Santana Gonzalez, (2013). Addressing a conflict as soon
as possible does not mean to be made lightly or quickly. Individuals serving as mediators must be
impartial, show true interest between the parties, and above all be prepared in the area of conflict
resolution. A mediator should never favor any party, (Montgomery, 1995). Studies related to the
perception of asymmetry (inequity or favoritism) in the process of settlement of conflict
demonstrate that this can lead to absenteeism, lack of motivation and job dissatisfaction after the
resolution, (Jehn et al., 2006).

North Dakota Pipeline Case Study
At Standing Rock Sioux Reservation multiple Native American tribes are protesting the
construction of the North Dakota Pipeline. The North Dakota Pipeline could be very beneficial for
moving oil in a safer and more cost effective manner, but it could also cause irreparable harm to the
environment and communities surrounding it. Even though there are benefits to the construction
of the pipeline, it would cause more destruction than being a system improvement.
The approximate 1,172 mile, 30 inch diameter, would connect Bakken and Three Forks production
areas in North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois. The pipeline would allow oil to be moved in a More
profitable and environmentally safer manner. Yet, any leak would cause immediate and irreplaceable

The Importance Of Sportsmanship In Sports
Sports, for thousands of years, have been a wonderful means for humankind to exercise one of our
most basic instincts: competition with our fellow humans. Surrounding all types of sports is the
idea of sportsmanship, the respect and ethical behavior shown to all participants of a contest.
Sports fans around the world have all seen their share of sore losers, bad winners, and generally
horrifying displays of poor sportsmanship. Yet, in all sports, there remain certain dogmas that only
the most poorly behaved sportsman would dare to violate. The spirit of the game, in many cases, is
far more important than the outcome of the match, and a true competitor understands this. This is
why many of our most beloved athletes are not always the most talented or outstanding performers;
it is those who play with the purest heart, for the sake of the team, and with respect for all
opponents. Truly transcendent athletes are those that are able to combine this intangible trait with
world class skill.
There are greater lessons to be learned from this besides being well liked in the sporting
community. Sports, and by extension, the athletes who play them, are able to go beyond cultural
differences; surely there are stylistic differences between countries and regions, but in general,
sports are played the same wherever you go. Similarly, all fans of a sport are able to appreciate
incredible athletic feats or truly classy displays of sportsmanship. Simply put, sports have a way
of bringing people together. In a day in age when settling cultural differences is of utmost
importance, turning more towards sports is a reasonably viable way to bring the world closer
together.
The best example of a sport bringing two societies together today is the case of cricket contests
between India and Pakistan. Tension and hostility have marked the relationship between the two
countries for much of the last century. What has become known as cricket diplomacy has been
able to bring an air of friendliness to talks between leaders. In 2011, the former president of
Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf was quoted on the benefits of cricket diplomacy. He said, Firstly, I
think it can be used as an ice breaker in case the two opposing groups leadership is not

Forecasting By Vector Autoregression Models
CHAPTER NINE
FORECASTING BY VECTOR AUTOREGRESSION MODELS
9.1 Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Models
Vector Autoregression (VAR) models were introduced by the macro econometrician Christopher
Sims (1980) to model the joint dynamics and causal relations among a set of macroeconomic
variables. The vector autoregression (VAR) is commonly used for forecasting systems of
interrelated time series and for analyzing the dynamic impact of random disturbances on the
system of variables. The VAR approach sidesteps the need for structural modeling by treating every
endogenous variable in the system as a function of the lagged values of all of the endogenous
variables in the system.
The vector autoregression (VAR) model is one of the most successful, flexible, and easy to use
models for the analysis of multivariate time series. It is a natural extension of the univariate
autoregressive model to dynamic multivariate time series. The VAR model has proven to be
especially useful for describing the dynamic behavior of economic and financial time series and for
forecasting. It often provides superior forecasts to those from univariate time series models and
elaborate theory based simultaneous equations models. Forecasts from VAR models are quite
flexible because they can be made conditional on the potential future paths of specified variables in
the model.
In addition to data description and forecasting, the VAR model is also used for structural inference
and policy analysis. In structural

Augustine Empire Vs Byzantine Civilization
Although the Ancient Egyptian Civilization and the Byzantine Empire both had a big influence on
each other and are very similar, they also have their big differences. The first and foremost of those
differences being how the members of each civilizations made their living. The Ancient Egyptians
were mostly farmers, or laborers, while the people of the Byzantine Empire were mostly traders,
builders, tutors, and doctors. Another difference and similarity is each civilization s respective
geographical features. They both share access to the Mediterranean Sea, but while Ancient Egypt
has many man made geographical features, the Byzantine Empire has little to none. Other
differences include religious aspects, written languages, and systems of rule.... Show more content

The standard religion in Ancient Egypt wasn t really one set religion at all. It was more a mix of
all of the main principles of the different, and most prominent religions we observe being
practiced around the world today. Like most religions, they had a belief in a higher power, they
were polytheistic that went with an extensive mythology for all of the gods they worshipped,
whilst having a very strong belief of spiritualism, and having magic incorporated into many parts
of their religion. They also had a more scientific aspects of their religion such as psychiatry,
herbology, and medicine. Contrarily, the religion of Byzantium wa much more predetermined,
standard, and while being Christianity at the specific time of those people, their religion is very
similar to that of today s Christianity. They were monotheistic, meaning they only worshipped one
god, unlike the Ancient Egyptians. While they only worshipped one god, they believed that there
were three elements to him: God the Father; God the Son and the Holy Spirit. They followed the
teachings of Jesus Christ, also viewing him as the son of God, and the messiah promised in the
Old Testament. They obtained this information from their holy book called the Bible, and
worshipped and were taught lessons from the Bible in churches, by their religious leaders called
Priests or Ministers. Other

Reedus, who plays Dixon, is a skilled rider with years of motorcycle riding experience. He once
worked at a Harley shop called Dr. Carl s Hog Hospital and currently owns a Harley, two Triumphs,
a Honda and a Tiger 800. Reedus enthusiasm has even led to the creation of a new AMC motorcycle
travel show called Ride With Norman Reedus, which takes viewers out on a number of motorcycle

The Effects Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Although the percentage of families owning a desktop or laptops has remained relatively
constant over the past two decades, the use of computers in the workplace is predicted to rise. In
addition, the number of people owning smartphones has nearly doubled since 2011. The use of
computers and smartphones can put extensive wear and tear on the wrists. This may lead to
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, a common problem among adults. This is the numbness, tingling, and
weakness in one s hand(s) due to pressure on the median nerve in the wrist. Bending the wrists
while typing or texting is a major source of development for carpal tunnel. My mother, for
example, works at a computer all day and has dealt with carpal tunnel for many years. If I were

The Causes And Consequences Of The Great Famine
Food is the most colorful part of the day. With its gastronomic range, the possibilities are endless.
Everyone in the world depends on food, whether to experience that burst of flavor in the mouth or
to survive. But when there is a shortage of food, what is to blame? The people who eat and
cultivate it? Or factors outside their control? The Great Famineis an example of this question.
The Great Famine was caused by blight that accidently came from America and affected the
potatoes growing in Ireland and in turn, affected the Irish. This was especially hard on the Irish
because in 1845, the potato was their main source of food. They had an average of 14 spuds a day
so they relied heavily on them. Potatoes only lasted two to three months so ... Show more content on

The farmers were the first to emigrate via steam boats to England and Scotland. They were the
wealthier people but as time passed, the people emigrating became poorer. 75% were laborers and
servants. These kinds of people found it hard to pay for the ride over to America. But it didn t
matter. 1 ВЅ million left Ireland in 1847 1851 for NY. Economic expansion in the US with
industrial depression in Ireland increased migration. The fees to cross the Atlantic Ocean were
high and the Parliament regulated it. Adult was single soul and children under 12 were half
soul. It was hard to tell who was what age because of lack of passports. At first when they left,
they were jubilant. But there were too many on the ships and it was like hell on sea. The voyage
took about six weeks or three months. There were too few doctors for medical inspection so
many that were on the ships were sick. The sick were sent to St. John as a dumping ground yet
they all couldn t be regulated and a plethora died on the ships. Many were so used to death and
inhumane conditions at sea that they didn t care if they were sleeping next to a corpse. They were
without fear or emotion (BBC, 1995). When people left, it was a chain migration (Mulrooney, pg.
21). They emigrated in continuous succession groups of two or more and usually had a job or
relative waiting. The movement depended on the placement of family. They

Theme Of Religion In Shawshank Redemption
What role does religion play in the film? Describe the use of different religious symbols, elements
or terms. To me Shawshank Redemption, seemed to be like any other prison film. A story of a
prisoner s tough life, when surrounded by the massive walls of a brutal American prison, treated as
scum. In some genius way, they manage to trick the management and escape through a tiny tunnel
and out as free men. However, the Shawshank Redemption is no jail brake film, to me it is rather
more a parable of the side effects when imprisoning a human being until institutionalized and unable
to function when outside the protection of the prison walls. As Red quoted; These walls are funny.

The Shawshank Redemption actually retells the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After Andy s
escape, Red and others look for Andy s dead body just like the disciples went to look Jesu s. As
the prison guard said; Oh my holy god . The film infuses Dufresne s escape, with the symbolism
of new birth, since he precedes through a woman s womb (in this case Rita Hayworth) and ends
with him slipping head first out of a sewer. As Red quoted; Andy crawled through 500 yards of
sh*t smelling foulness I can t even imagine . Andy Dufresne was new born and cleaned as soon
as he slipped into the river. I believe it refers to the Christian tradition of baptizing a new born.
However, the strongest reference to Christianity I believe, is the tale of hope and faith. Andy
Dufresne came as an outsider, brining perhaps new hope to this grey environment. He might be
the only hope in the prison, since he is the only innocent one. His hope for a brighter future leads
him to accomplish a great number of achievements. Not only did he manage to get a prison
library, he managed to educate a young prisoner at high school level. Dufresne s best friend, Red
keeps telling him that hope is a dangerous thing and will drive a man crazy. But when the warden
shoots Dufresne s only witness and hope to be released, he seemed to lose hope. He became closer
to being institutionalized. This is where Andy Dufresne decided that he had been in prison enough

The Causes Of Colonialism And Imperialism
VOCAB LIST (6)
Imperialism The act of stronger nations taking direct control of weaker nations in order to to create
empires economically, politically, culturally, and/or militarily. Much of Africa and Asia were under
European domination because of imperialism.
Nationalism A citizen s passionate feeling of devotion and pride for their country. Nationalism
usually suggests that a nation s people believe themselves, their ideals, and their goals to be
superior to those of other nations. Many citizens felt a rise in nationalism due to competition among
European nations for large empires.
Annex The act of an already existing country acquiring and controlling a new territory. The United
States expanded by annexing Texas.
Banana Republic Minor C. Keith provided financial services to the government of Costa Rica. In
return, he won long term leases for lands and railroad lines. By 1913, Keith s United Fruit Company
exported 50 million bunches of a bananas a year to the United States. The bananas also played a
significant role in the governments and economies of Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras.
Because of this, Costa Rica was referred to as a banana republic (as were other countries who
depended on one primary resource for most of their economic influx).
Alfred T. Mahan Argued that the nation s economic future hinged on gaining new markets abroad.
In his view, the United States need a powerful navy to protect these markets from foreign rivals.
Established naval power=economic power .
Social Darwinism The discriminatory belief that expansionism was not only the nation s destiny,
but also a noble pursuit since Christianity and modern civilization should be introduced to other
inferior heathen peoples around the world. Many respected leaders such as Congregationalist
minister Josiah Strong and Indiana senator Albert J. Beveridge were social darwinists. They
believed the civilizations produced by Anglo Saxon and Teutonic (Germanic) peoples were superior
to the societies they conquered.

Analysis Of The Story Kwanzaa And Me
Kwanzaa and Me: Analysis A. Review of the Story The story provided an excellent discussion of
the many issues that surround race in schools, it centered on the topic about whether integrated
schools were more beneficial than segregated schools. This book focuses on young children in
the early grades, listening to parents and racial integration. The author wanted to find the truth
that is surrounding multicultural classrooms from those that are involved in it. This book
includes many side stories, which serve to explore the concepts, and displays them in a clear
way; it also added depth to the book. This book was well written and shows all sides of
multicultural education. It does not take one side in particular and it encourages people to
explore multicultural education in a new light. B. What impact did this story have on you? This
story has affected me in a few ways. One of the ways was how children think and see the world.
One of the ways is how children see and picture racial equality. They do this in a way that many
adults are not readily capable of doing, or choose not to. From the story early on we are told of a
girl named Kesha who distinguishes beyond the socio typical distinctions of black and white,
when she states, Okay, peach with spots for you and brown without spots for me, except his one
and this one on my cheek (Paley, pg. 15). In another part in the story, the author says two children,

Chinese New Year is a spring festival which usually lasts about 15 23 days and it is known as the
biggest celebration in China. Using the Chinese Calendar, Chinese New Year starts on the 23rd
day of the 12th Lunar Month and ends the 15th day of the 1st lunar month. This is because it is

is to buy all the decorations for their house and new clothing. The Chinese are very gracious with
their money; they will buy everyone new clothing for this very special holiday. The Chinese
New Year eve is meant for a family, putting up decorations, staying up late with everyone and
also giving red envelopes filled with lucky money to all the kids. Chinese put up with different
types of decorations that include red lanterns, New Year paintings and red couplets. Depending

The Well Paid Receptionist Case Analysis
The Well Paid Receptionist Case Analysis
Harvey hired the very qualified Cathy Brannen seven years ago for an annual salary of $14,000
and the incentive of sales override of 2% of the total sales. Today, Harvey just realized that his
secretary has been living very comfortable with $127,614.21 this year. Harvey cannot believe the
situation and wants to address her salary, which he feels is inappropriate, but has not considered his
contributions, or lack of contributions, that has led to this outcome (Cohen Fink, 2001). A Bloated

Cathy has been making a significant amount for some time, refer to Table 1. There have been
significant raises each year and should have been caught by Harvey or the comptroller long
before her 7 year anniversary. Why was there a lack of due diligence that allowed this to not be
noticed more promptly? Why were no complaints brought forward by other employees? Is this an
isolated case or other employees making significant salaries as well?
Cathy is making significantly more than Harvey s best salespersons and managers, almost as much
as Harvey and extremely higher than any receptionist s salary (Cohen Fink, 2001). The problem
does not lie with just overlooked financial, payroll documents but Harvey s lack of participation in
the financials of his business. When Harvey hired Cathy, he could not offer her requested salary,
and even made an offer that was 12% lower than her previous salary, but Harvey needed the

True West Comparison
In the play True West by Sam Shepard, it displays two brothers (Austin and Lee) depending on
each other like a Yin yang relation. In the beginning of the play Austin is dressed in a light blue
sport shirt, light tan cardigan sweater, clean blue jeans and a white tennis shoes. a hard working
screenwriter at his early thirties who has a family, a house and a car; which Austin Symbolized
the goals of the American Dream. On other side, Lee the bigger brother in his early forties dress
in a tattered brown overcoat covered with dust, dark blue baggy suit pants from the salvation

alcoholic, a thief, and a person who likes violence. Austin and Lee has a father who is an
alcoholic, who lives on the streets, which Austin works really hard to avoid being like his father.
In the middle of the play after Saul Kimmer(Hollywood producer) appears between Austin And

Different Views Of Evangelical Christians And The Cultural...
We have been taking a look into the different views of Evangelical Christians and their
approaches to different types of media. Clifford G. Christians article Redemptive popular art:
television and the cultural mandate specifically deals with redemptive media. He approached this
subject by asking three questions of the show or film being questioned. He believed that this
method should be used by Christians to evaluate what kind of media they are actually consuming
daily. In order to include all types, he refers to all forms of media (television, movies, and
broadcasts, etc.) as popular art. The first question C. Christians says that Christians should ask
of their media is, How does it portray human life, or more strongly, what do they presume about
human nature? (P. 14) Too often television shows and movies are based around the premise that
humans are simply biological beings. Even most Christian productions become guilty of this.
The creator s greatest legacy is a creative being. (P.15) Humans are not simply animals, we were
designed as special beings that do special things like cook our own food and make decisions of
right and wrong. This Naturalism that has been accepted by society is a smaller part of what
modern media has also made the world accept, materialism. In his article Christians stated,
Television sets are permanent salesmen . . . the average post high school American has already
seen more than 400,000 commercials. (P. 15) This number has

Immediately following the second World War, America entered the decade of the 1950 s which
would be a time of major social and cultural change. The economy in the 1950 s was thriving, and
a decrease in poverty percentages arose which benefitted those of the generation (Brinkley).
However, during this time period America underwent a nationwide revolution as a result of the
Cold War(Kennedy 877). Critical areas of American life such as space travel, arms development
and the acquisition of foreign alliances such as North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) were
formed, all to oppose the communist political ideology (Kennedy 877). This decade also became a

The Beat Generation was founded in the early 1940 s but was mainly developed throughout the
50 s. Some of its major influences were Jack Kerouac, known as the generations founder,
Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg, each with their own social impact in society (Rahn).
The majority of those within the movement were from the middle class but educated in public
policies as well (Rahn). The major points that were argued by this generation were that
Capitalism was really a policy that hurt Americans more than it helped them and it would come
to question the materialism of the 50 s society. In a book known as Howl published by Allen
Ginsberg within the time period would come to challenge the view of pornography (Rahn). A

The Ethical Principles Of Psychologists And Code Of Conduct
Many universities fail to provide appropriate education in their curriculum (e.g. practicum or
internship) in forensic psychology. Therefore, as they obtain a career in this area they lack
competency regarding the Code of Ethics, as well as other guidelines which can create ethical
dilemmas in the future (Knapp VadeCreek, 2001). Additionally, these individuals lack competency
regarding the roles of the forensic psychologist. The role of a forensic psychologist is to function as
an expert witness by the means of conducting evaluations, as well as interpreting the results for the
legal system. With this being said the information provided assist with the outcome of the defendant

concerns regarding the evaluation performed by Dr. Jones to determine if Mr. Smith is competent
to stand trial and/or understand criminal responsibility. Furthermore, this paper will employ
references from the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct written by the
American Psychological Association and the Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychologywritten

Member of the Wedding by Carson Mccullers
Without connection to others there is no me
Throughout our lives, everyone that we share bonds with and interact with on a regular basis, either
forms or has some sort of influence on our identity. Consequently, the majority of us naturally find
ourselves striving to fit in with these people, especially during the tough transition from childhood
to adulthood. It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties
with something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear
understanding of who we are. Although most individuals are able to make these connections with
others naturally, others who stray from the social norm might not be so fortunate, but rather than ...

But still, she didn t let anyone s disapproval of her identity deter her, and continued to carry the
burden of being alienated in order to remain true to herself. By expressing her homosexuality with
self assurance, others were eventually forced to accept Ruby for who she was, and she has since
gone on to be extremely successful in life, having been selected to act in a number of films
including the Australian comedy Suite for Fleur , designing her own fashion range, and much
more. In 2008 and 2009, she was also chosen as one of the 25 Most Influential Gay and Lesbian
Australians by Same Same , an Australian online gay and lesbian community. This indicates that
true existence can only be found when our decisions and actions are truly our own; when we stand
alone and free of connections, without social influence.
Considering a different perspective, it can be argued that both sides of the argument are true to a
certain extent, in that we are able to possess a sense of existence whilst devoid of most
connections, but there are some affiliations such as the bonds we share with our family that we
cannot live without. A sense of acceptance from our familial ties and intimate relationships with
others shape who we are. These connections ideally provide love, protection, security and the
opportunity to discover our values, attitudes, and beliefs that help to define us from the time of our
birth. In The Member of the Wedding ,

Bruno Mars Stereotypes
Bruno Mars s real name is Peter Gene Hernandez; he changed it due to the fact he was being
stereotyped as a latino artist, and was even asked to consider singing in Spanish. Bruno was a
childhood nickname given to him by his father, and he chose Mars because he felt he need a
little extra pizzazz. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 8, 1985. His father is Peter
Hernandez, and was born in Brooklyn, New York, and is of Puerto Rican and Jewish descent.
His mother is Bernadette San Pedro Bayot, and she was originally from the Philippines, and
immigrated to Hawaii. His parents were a big musical influence on him, and they even met
while performing at a show, with him mother as a hula dancer and his father playing drums. Bruno
Mars, himself, aside from his talented vocal skills, can also play keyboard, piano, drums, and
guitar. Music is a big part of Bruno Mars s family life, his brother, Eric Hernandez, gave up his
career as a police officer in order to play drums in Bruno s band, The Hooligans. Bruno Mars started
performing in his family s band, The Love Notes, when he was two. He was also inspired by his
uncle, an Elvis impersonator, and became very well known in Hawaii for his skill. He even

Weathering The Storm Of Hurricane Katrina
Weathering the Storm On the morning of Monday, August 29, 2005, in southeast Louisiana,
hurricane Katrina made its second landfall. It began as a category one hurricane in the Bahamas
and crossed the southern tip of Florida into the Gulf of Mexico, where is mixed with the warm
waters and grew into a category five hurricane. After making landfall the second time, it weakened
to a category three hurricane but still caused catastrophic damage to everything in its path.
Hurricane Katrinaresulted in at least 1833 deaths from both the storm and subsequent floods,
making it the deadliest U.S. hurricane since the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane (Knabb). The residents

The children in the family can t seem to bother with the possibility of the hurricane being anything
but an inconvenience, while the father only takes slight precautions before its arrival. The
possibility of evacuation and the preparation for the category five hurricane Katrina are both
prevalent, but due to the economic situation and the education of the main characters, they are
forced to the storms full impact. The category five designation of hurricane Katrina can be very
misleading for those who are not familiar with the Saffir Simpson hurricane wind scale, or the
Saffir Simpson hurricane scale. Wind engineer Herb Saffir and meteorologist Robert Simpson
created what has become known as the Saffir Simpson hurricane scale (SSHS) to provide an
indication of a hurricane s intensity based on its maximum sustained winds. (Allen) The scale,
from one to five, is setup to be very easy to understand for the general public, however it still
does not clearly convey the amount of damage that can be sustained from a category one
hurricane as opposed to a category five hurricane. A category one hurricane is classified as having
winds between seventy four and ninety five mile per hour sustained winds with a damage rating
being described as having very dangerous winds will produce some damage. Category two has
winds between ninety six and one hundred and ten miles per hour, category three has winds

The imprudent control used by all the boys in the novel shows how there is inherently evil in all
of man, just shown by how the boys treat one another. William Golding believes that evil comes
from within you and is apart of you, but is suppressed by society. When the Beast or the Lord of
the Flies gets into Simon s head, it says, I am part of you (142). The evil from the beast is
speaking to Simon s heart and mind. Simon s conscience is speaking to and the evil is trying to
turn him into a sadistic aggressive boy just like Jack. It was not society who tried to turn Simon
evil, it was the beast who tried to get into Simon s mind to make him become a savage. Evil is
inside everyone yet it is through society, that evil is shown. Evil can also come from an
uncontrolled civilization, just like what the boys had on the island. The beast was harmless and
horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible (147) here Simon is able to see
what the others could not see in the dark. He saw the truth of the Lord of the Flies, but he wants
to share all this information with the boys that the evil is inside of them. The other boys on the
other hand can not see through the dark, which causes Simon s tragic death. Henery, even being a
very young kid compared to the others seems to enjoy and excites him as well by controlling and
playing with living creatures and He poked about with a bit of stick . . . and tried to control the

The Effects Of Social And Emotional Development On Children
Social and Emotional is as important as physical and motor development. Physical and motor
development are much easier to observe than social and emotional development but it doe not
dismiss how important this concept is. It is through social and emotional development that a

for the success of a child in school and social life. When a child is aware that he or she is
separate from their environment than they can began to process and understand the world and

observations of social and emotional development in children ages 3 years to 8 years old. For my
observations I picked two girls and one boy. My first child is a little boy blonde baby with brown
eyes by the name of Oliver. He was born on January 10th, 2013 and is now 3 years old. Oliver is

Richard Plantagenet Essay
For this project I would like to research the public opinion and reception of the political reforms
made by Richard Plantagenet as both Duke of Gloucester and King of England. Upon his
brother Edward IV s regaining of the throne in 1471, Richard gained properties and offices in the
far north of England previously enjoyed only by lords of long standing families such as the
Percys. As Duke of Gloucester, Richard served as an extension of royal power and was charged
with constructing some semblance of order. Repeatedly, Richard used his close relationship with
the king to settle disputes between nobility and local governments in favor of the latter. This
suggests an affinity for the lesser classes that continued during his brief reign. In a previous
research project I discussed Richard s 1484 Parliament and how it sought to benefit the general
public over the nobility. While this argument was backed by fairly substantial evidence as to the
intent of the laws and amendments, the public reaction to them was not addressed. Unfortunately, it
is virtually impossible to follow up on the effects of these parliamentary statutes as, after his death
in 1485, many of Richard s reforms were eradicated or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Advancements Of The Early Modern Period Medicine
It is difficult to decide whether the developments, inventions and discoveries of the Early
Modern Period contributed to European power or whether it contributed to European progress.
The reason this is, is because in the case of Europe, especially in this time period, power and
progress seemed to go hand in hand. In the case of discovery the countries that had the most power
led the way in discovering new land, it was this curiosity in expanding power that led to the
progress of new worlds and opportunities. The invention of the printing presscontributed to
providing knowledge and therefore an aspect of power to people who did not have it beforehand
and it was the progress of medicines and sciences that ensured not only the power and superiority
of European knowledge but also the ability to progress to the next level of knowledge.
From the beginnings of the Early Modern Period medicine was essentially summed up in high
mortality rates and the notion that men and women were two completely different people
anatomically, treatments were largely herbal and the type of doctor you went to see depended on
what was wrong with you and if you could afford them . Attaining and preserving a state of health,
therefore, required balance, and that equilibrium was inherently elusive and easily forfeited .
However, while there was some progress in this field throughout the period it was not as drastic as
one would expect, the Galenic body of the four humours was still a dominant

First piece is a shallow bowl, hand coiled and outdoor fired, about 6 inches width, and 2 inches
length, and height. The piece was made in america, in 1901 by Nampeyo, in Arizona. The bowl
looks almost wooden, the artist probably used brown clay. The painting inside the bowl, looks
like a abstract bird form, with a stylized eagle tail. Nampeyo used black and red paint, and a lot of
different shapes. Starting from the bottom, it looks like two triangles that curve and join the black
thin lines in, the inside rim of the bowl. Above that are two lines probably indicating that she

Wealth Inequality In America Analysis
Making the Ladder More Accessible for The Poor Class After watching the video Wealth
Inequality in America (2012) and reading the article Apple s Retail Army, Long on Loyalty but

conception of America s growing economy. While the social stratification is an ideal ladder, for
the poor to middle classes to seek for economical growth to reach the top, the wealth class. There
s a misconception on how corporations are helping society s economic growth. While growing in
value for its shareholders, corporations are rising inequality among the workplace. The reality of

The Rise Of The Young Social Entrepreneur
Corporate America has had a long history of producing jobs and income for everyday families.
Just as society has evolved, social entrepreneurship has also evolved becoming more focused on
solving problems rather than merely accumulating income. For years and years America has been a

popular ambition. Corporate drones have influenced society for centuries, however because of the

International Capitalism
Globalization may be an overused word, although the new version of international capitalism is still
so recent that the actual system on the ground has outrun the scientific and theoretical vocabulary
that describes it. As a system, international capitalism is rapidly eliminating geographical and
political boundaries, as Marx predicted in the 19th Century. In the global, postmodern economy,
branding also involves relentless synergy and tie ins between various diverse lines of products.
Films and cartoons market their images to toy companies, fast food restaurants and cereal
manufacturers, generating billions of dollars of revenue annually, as does the commerce in seeds,
genetic materials and even human body parts. Western science and technology have been
synonymous with modernization and development in India and other Asian nations, even though
this paradigm ignores the historical and cultural that has existed in many civilizations over the
centuries.
In No Logo, Naomi Klein was highly critical of globalized capitalism and the consolidation of giant
corporations and highly standardized brands and chain stores like Wal Mart, the Gap and
Starbucks. All of these companies are not attempting to become that one overarching brand under
which we consume, make art, [and] even build our homes (Klein 1999, 2009, p. 130). Even the
retail outlets are completely uniform and clone like, with one Kinko s, Blockbuster or McDonald s
looking basically like any of the others. By 1998,

The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, And Adolf Hitler
The White Witch or The Queen Of Narnia from C.S. Lewis book The Lion, the Witch, and the
Wardrobe, and Adolf Hitler, the old dictator of Germany are similar in many ways. The first trait
they share is cunningness, the second is evilness, and the last is cold heartedness.
Obviously, as mentioned earlier, the first trait Adolf Hitlerand the White Witch share is
cunningness. The first piece of evidence that shows that the Witch is cunning is, While he was
prince he would wear a gold crown and eat Turkish delight all day long, (Lewis, 40). In this scene
the Witch finds Edmund. She tricks him to bring his siblings so that she can kill them. To do
this, she said she does not have an heir. She persuaded Edmund that if he does the job, and he

The military needs to recognize the underlying cultural dynamics and language in the countries
where the warfighter is fighting. By understanding the cultural dynamics, the warfighter can build
one to one relationships with the local culture. Also, warfighters need to be aware of what hand and
arms signals to use so that they don t offend the local culture. Furthermore, the warfighters need to
be sensitive to the local population s beliefs and religion. Therefore, the warfighter has to stay away
from transferring American values and religious beliefs onto the local culture. So, by understanding

It also is a way to protect them from sins and temptation that lives upon them. The goblins only
want to lure women s into temptation as in the fruit that the goblin is presuming her into eating
is like sex. It also could mean that giving into temptation and peer pressure from others to do
things that are against you code of conduct. Could actually affect you or have some sort of
consequences over it. Laura even showed signs of physical addiction and the pain she feels
from craving and wanting more fruit; Then sat up in a passionate yearning, And gnashed her
teeth for baulked desire, and wept as if her hear t would break. Since from the beginning when
Laura tried the fruit for the first, she said One longing for the night ; that she needed more of the
fruits. It was like a drug that once tried it consumed them until it killed them. In the story it said
No , said Lizzie: No, no, no; Their offers should not charm us, Their evil gifts would harm us. As

The Philosophy of Erich Fromm
Philosopher Erich Fromm was born in the early 20th century and could witness all of its major
developments (Cherry). Not only did it bring technological progress and new ideologies, but also
bitter fruits of war unseen by mankind before. He contemplated the motives behind aggression and
violence which led him to the study of psychology and sociology(Cherry). Fromm s last work, To
Have or to Be (1976), is the culmination of his strive to find and explain the purpose of human
life. He perceived our existence as being driven by either the having or the being mode and
explained this idea by using psychological finds merged with sociological evidence.
To Fromm, the two modes of existence are inherent to our nature. The two conflicting... Show more

On the contrary, he pays more attention to the influence which society has on a person and even
rejects some of Freud s concepts ( Erich Fromm Encyclopædia Britannica.).
Whereas Fromm discards some of Freud s ideas, he agrees with much of Marx s theory. He uses
an example of class war where those who are concerned with material equality are as obsessed
with possession as those on top. On the contrary, if everybody s possessions are functional and
personal, then whether someone has somewhat more than another person does not constitute a
social problem (Fromm 84). Fromm provides evidence that Marx was an advocate of this idea.
One of the good qualities of the book is that Marx s philosophy is explained from the point which
people often overlook because of the general negative perception of the Soviet Union as an
example of a Marxist Leninist state.
Besides, Fromm states that the problem of having and being is a topic that was examined for a
long time even before Freud and Marx. He employs the theological motifs of Christianity and
Judaism. He gives an example of Moses, who led his people into the desert, where they were free
from possession and could fully appreciate the joy of being. In the Christian tradition, Jesus acts
for the sake of all people while, at the same time, he has nothing material. Such appreciation of the
Jewish and Christian traditions can be explained by Fromm s personal background. He was born
into an

paternal must get delight from the association with the child. The caretaker must feel skilful in the
relationship. Entry into the Early Intervention Program Short of having your child bite the dust,
there is nothing more pulverizing to a parent than to be informed that there is something the matter
with your child; your youngster is not ordinary. Parents contribution is a faith in the estimation of

  • 2. The Use Of Calvinism By Robert Frost Robert Frost incorporated Calvinism into his poetic work to emphasize his belief in this Protestant theological system. Frost lived in a Calvinist society throughout his life, influencing him to believe in such a system. The death of Frost s family members, drove him to live such a dark life, and turning to find gratification through Calvinism. Frost made sure to demonstrate the struggle of the characters in his poetry as if they were trying to escape something that was not possible, such as Calvinism. Once a human joins this religion, the rest of their life is determined for them and they are subjected to either hell or rarely heaven. Robert Frost made use of Calvinism throughout his poetry to emphasize the mindset of such individuals.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are parts of his religion that he must stay true and values that mean something due to his strong faith. Calvinism is shown strongly throughout this poem, for one example, in that one has a life to live however, God is ultimately all powerful and in full control of every part of life. The next example comes from the poem Acquainted With The Night, Frost starts off this poem by stating I have been one acquainted with night (Frost 1). Looking further into this poem, one can interpret that the speaker was once drawn to evil, and has gone through struggles in life, however, he has outwalked this struggle in life. God has put him through this clearly for a reason and proves that he truly does have all power. Going through tough times, Frost kept his faith strong, despite believing he was damned. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet / When far away an interrupted cry/ Came over houses from another street, (Frost 7 9) Frost is hearing the sounds of a watchman or inner voice talking to him. The voice was not there to tell him what to do just to remind him that He is always there watching over him. When the speaker looks up, he sees the luminary clock, (Frost 12) or the moon, he states once again I have been acquainted with the night, (Frost 14) stating once again the he believes he has been damned. • 3. Conflict resolution in the workplace Conflict resolution in the workplace Introduction Conflict is a fact in any relationship including the work area. Still, it is important to emphasize that some conflicts should not be seen as good or bad, they are just differences. Many times when there are disagreements between players these issues are left on the table without giving much emphasis. Unfortunately some of these conflicts have reached a level that ends in a physical altercation. When things get out of proportion, the sports psychologist is called in to intervene as a third party to mediate the situation. This process can take weeks. This paper attempts to raise awareness to owners of The Sluggers baseball team, their coordinators, managers and coaches, and provide them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, I stress the fact that these conflicts can happen between teammates, managers to players and vice versa, or between managers and coaches. Unsolved, or unsatisfactorily resolved conflicts perceived by one or all parties in the situation can lead to worse consequences, (Jehn, Rupert, Nauta, 2006). Conflicts do not always come to light immediately because parties will intent to use mechanisms to deal or solve them. These mechanisms are not always the most appropriate. A manager o coach that becomes aware of something going wrong with their team should pay attention and try to solve it before it escalates to another level, (Fisher Santana Gonzalez, (2013). Addressing a conflict as soon as possible does not mean to be made lightly or quickly. Individuals serving as mediators must be impartial, show true interest between the parties, and above all be prepared in the area of conflict resolution. A mediator should never favor any party, (Montgomery, 1995). Studies related to the perception of asymmetry (inequity or favoritism) in the process of settlement of conflict demonstrate that this can lead to absenteeism, lack of motivation and job dissatisfaction after the resolution, (Jehn et al., 2006). ... The North Dakota Pipeline could be very beneficial for moving oil in a safer and more cost effective manner, but it could also cause irreparable harm to the environment and communities surrounding it. Even though there are benefits to the construction of the pipeline, it would cause more destruction than being a system improvement. The approximate 1,172 mile, 30 inch diameter, would connect Bakken and Three Forks production areas in North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois. • 5. The Importance Of Sportsmanship In Sports Sports, for thousands of years, have been a wonderful means for humankind to exercise one of our most basic instincts: competition with our fellow humans. Surrounding all types of sports is the idea of sportsmanship, the respect and ethical behavior shown to all participants of a contest. Sports fans around the world have all seen their share of sore losers, bad winners, and generally horrifying displays of poor sportsmanship. Yet, in all sports, there remain certain dogmas that only the most poorly behaved sportsman would dare to violate. The spirit of the game, in many cases, is far more important than the outcome of the match, and a true competitor understands this. This is why many of our most beloved athletes are not always the most talented or outstanding performers; it is those who play with the purest heart, for the sake of the team, and with respect for all opponents. Truly transcendent athletes are those that are able to combine this intangible trait with world class skill. There are greater lessons to be learned from this besides being well liked in the sporting community. Sports, and by extension, the athletes who play them, are able to go beyond cultural differences; surely there are stylistic differences between countries and regions, but in general, sports are played the same wherever you go. Similarly, all fans of a sport are able to appreciate incredible athletic feats or truly classy displays of sportsmanship. Simply put, sports have a way of bringing people together. In a day in age when settling cultural differences is of utmost importance, turning more towards sports is a reasonably viable way to bring the world closer together. The best example of a sport bringing two societies together today is the case of cricket contests between India and Pakistan. Tension and hostility have marked the relationship between the two countries for much of the last century. What has become known as cricket diplomacy has been able to bring an air of friendliness to talks between leaders. In 2011, the former president of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf was quoted on the benefits of cricket diplomacy. He said, Firstly, I think it can be used as an ice breaker in case the two opposing groups leadership is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Forecasting By Vector Autoregression Models CHAPTER NINE FORECASTING BY VECTOR AUTOREGRESSION MODELS 9.1 Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Models Vector Autoregression (VAR) models were introduced by the macro econometrician Christopher Sims (1980) to model the joint dynamics and causal relations among a set of macroeconomic variables. The vector autoregression (VAR) is commonly used for forecasting systems of interrelated time series and for analyzing the dynamic impact of random disturbances on the system of variables. The VAR approach sidesteps the need for structural modeling by treating every endogenous variable in the system as a function of the lagged values of all of the endogenous variables in the system. The vector autoregression (VAR) model is one of the most successful, flexible, and easy to use models for the analysis of multivariate time series. It is a natural extension of the univariate autoregressive model to dynamic multivariate time series. The VAR model has proven to be especially useful for describing the dynamic behavior of economic and financial time series and for forecasting. It often provides superior forecasts to those from univariate time series models and elaborate theory based simultaneous equations models. Forecasts from VAR models are quite flexible because they can be made conditional on the potential future paths of specified variables in the model. In addition to data description and forecasting, the VAR model is also used for structural inference and policy analysis. In structural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Augustine Empire Vs Byzantine Civilization Although the Ancient Egyptian Civilization and the Byzantine Empire both had a big influence on each other and are very similar, they also have their big differences. The first and foremost of those differences being how the members of each civilizations made their living. The Ancient Egyptians were mostly farmers, or laborers, while the people of the Byzantine Empire were mostly traders, builders, tutors, and doctors. Another difference and similarity is each civilization s respective geographical features. The standard religion in Ancient Egypt wasn t really one set religion at all. It was more a mix of all of the main principles of the different, and most prominent religions we observe being practiced around the world today. Like most religions, they had a belief in a higher power, they were polytheistic that went with an extensive mythology for all of the gods they worshipped, whilst having a very strong belief of spiritualism, and having magic incorporated into many parts of their religion. They also had a more scientific aspects of their religion such as psychiatry, herbology, and medicine. Contrarily, the religion of Byzantium wa much more predetermined, standard, and while being Christianity at the specific time of those people, their religion is very similar to that of today s Christianity. They were monotheistic, meaning they only worshipped one god, unlike the Ancient Egyptians. While they only worshipped one god, they believed that there were three elements to him: God the Father; God the Son and the Holy Spirit. They followed the teachings of Jesus Christ, also viewing him as the son of God, and the messiah promised in the Old Testament. They obtained this information from their holy book called the Bible, and worshipped and were taught lessons from the Bible in churches, by their religious leaders called Priests or Ministers. Everyone in the world depends on food, whether to experience that burst of flavor in the mouth or to survive. But when there is a shortage of food, what is to blame? The people who eat and cultivate it? Or factors outside their control? The Great Famineis an example of this question. The Great Famine was caused by blight that accidently came from America and affected the potatoes growing in Ireland and in turn, affected the Irish. This was especially hard on the Irish because in 1845, the potato was their main source of food. They had an average of 14 spuds a day so they relied heavily on them. To me Shawshank Redemption, seemed to be like any other prison film. A story of a prisoner s tough life, when surrounded by the massive walls of a brutal American prison, treated as scum. In some genius way, they manage to trick the management and escape through a tiny tunnel and out as free men. However, the Shawshank Redemption is no jail brake film, to me it is rather more a parable of the side effects when imprisoning a human being until institutionalized and unable to function when outside the protection of the prison walls. As Red quoted; Andy crawled through 500 yards of sh*t smelling foulness I can t even imagine . Andy Dufresne was new born and cleaned as soon as he slipped into the river. I believe it refers to the Christian tradition of baptizing a new born. However, the strongest reference to Christianity I believe, is the tale of hope and faith. Andy Dufresne came as an outsider, brining perhaps new hope to this grey environment. He might be the only hope in the prison, since he is the only innocent one. His hope for a brighter future leads him to accomplish a great number of achievements. Not only did he manage to get a prison library, he managed to educate a young prisoner at high school level. Dufresne s best friend, Red keeps telling him that hope is a dangerous thing and will drive a man crazy. Review of the Story The story provided an excellent discussion of the many issues that surround race in schools, it centered on the topic about whether integrated schools were more beneficial than segregated schools. This book focuses on young children in the early grades, listening to parents and racial integration. The author wanted to find the truth that is surrounding multicultural classrooms from those that are involved in it. This book includes many side stories, which serve to explore the concepts, and displays them in a clear way; it also added depth to the book. This book was well written and shows all sides of multicultural education. It does not take one side in particular and it encourages people to explore multicultural education in a new light. B. What impact did this story have on you? This story has affected me in a few ways. One of the ways was how children think and see the world. One of the ways is how children see and picture racial equality. They do this in a way that many adults are not readily capable of doing, or choose not to. Clifford G. Christians article Redemptive popular art: television and the cultural mandate specifically deals with redemptive media. He approached this subject by asking three questions of the show or film being questioned. He believed that this method should be used by Christians to evaluate what kind of media they are actually consuming daily. In order to include all types, he refers to all forms of media (television, movies, and broadcasts, etc.) as popular art. The first question C. Christians says that Christians should ask of their media is, How does it portray human life, or more strongly, what do they presume about human nature? (P. 14) Too often television shows and movies are based around the premise that humans are simply biological beings. Even most Christian productions become guilty of this. The creator s greatest legacy is a creative being. (P.15) Humans are not simply animals, we were designed as special beings that do special things like cook our own food and make decisions of right and wrong. This Naturalism that has been accepted by society is a smaller part of what modern media has also made the world accept, materialism. The beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible (147) here Simon is able to see what the others could not see in the dark. He saw the truth of the Lord of the Flies, but he wants to share all this information with the boys that the evil is inside of them. The other boys on the other hand can not see through the dark, which causes Simon s tragic death. • 29. Richard Plantagenet Essay For this project I would like to research the public opinion and reception of the political reforms made by Richard Plantagenet as both Duke of Gloucester and King of England. Upon his brother Edward IV s regaining of the throne in 1471, Richard gained properties and offices in the far north of England previously enjoyed only by lords of long standing families such as the Percys. As Duke of Gloucester, Richard served as an extension of royal power and was charged with constructing some semblance of order. Repeatedly, Richard used his close relationship with the king to settle disputes between nobility and local governments in favor of the latter. This suggests an affinity for the lesser classes that continued during his brief reign. In a previous research project I discussed Richard s 1484 Parliament and how it sought to benefit the general public over the nobility. While this argument was backed by fairly substantial evidence as to the intent of the laws and amendments, the public reaction to them was not addressed. Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to follow up on the effects of these parliamentary statutes as, after his death in 1485, many of Richard s reforms were eradicated or... • 31. Advancements Of The Early Modern Period Medicine It is difficult to decide whether the developments, inventions and discoveries of the Early Modern Period contributed to European power or whether it contributed to European progress. The reason this is, is because in the case of Europe, especially in this time period, power and progress seemed to go hand in hand. In the case of discovery the countries that had the most power led the way in discovering new land, it was this curiosity in expanding power that led to the progress of new worlds and opportunities. The invention of the printing presscontributed to providing knowledge and therefore an aspect of power to people who did not have it beforehand and it was the progress of medicines and sciences that ensured not only the power and superiority of European knowledge but also the ability to progress to the next level of knowledge. From the beginnings of the Early Modern Period medicine was essentially summed up in high mortality rates and the notion that men and women were two completely different people anatomically, treatments were largely herbal and the type of doctor you went to see depended on what was wrong with you and if you could afford them . Attaining and preserving a state of health, therefore, required balance, and that equilibrium was inherently elusive and easily forfeited . However, while there was some progress in this field throughout the period it was not as drastic as one would expect, the Galenic body of the four humours was still a dominant ... International Capitalism Globalization may be an overused word, although the new version of international capitalism is still so recent that the actual system on the ground has outrun the scientific and theoretical vocabulary that describes it. As a system, international capitalism is rapidly eliminating geographical and political boundaries, as Marx predicted in the 19th Century. In the global, postmodern economy, branding also involves relentless synergy and tie ins between various diverse lines of products. Films and cartoons market their images to toy companies, fast food restaurants and cereal manufacturers, generating billions of dollars of revenue annually, as does the commerce in seeds, genetic materials and even human body parts. Western science and technology have been synonymous with modernization and development in India and other Asian nations, even though this paradigm ignores the historical and cultural that has existed in many civilizations over the centuries. He uses an example of class war where those who are concerned with material equality are as obsessed with possession as those on top. On the contrary, if everybody s possessions are functional and personal, then whether someone has somewhat more than another person does not constitute a social problem (Fromm 84).
