Interview with a Manager
| MANAGER INTERVIEW | | |
Introduction: Leadership is understanding people and involving them to help you do a job. That takes
all of the good characteristics, like integrity, dedication of purpose, selflessness, knowledge, skill,
implacability, as well as determination not to accept failure (Burke 1995). The purpose of this paper is
to interview a manager from an organization and find out the leadership styles she uses to effectively
manage the staff there. This paper also looks at the approach she uses toward employment satisfaction,
how she motivates the employees and analyzes the different approaches she uses in her job. The
manager that I interviewed works in Loui Café in Penn University. Her name is Bobby Hill and she ...

If everyone worked equally aiming towards the same goal, the employees will be satisfied with their
job and in turn the customers will be happy with the service they received. Laura L. Paglis and
Stephen G. Green states in the article, Leadership Self Efficacy and Managers Motivation for Leading
Change that leadership efficacy helps in building the relationship of the manager with the employees,
gaining their commitment to the organization to change goals that have been set, and overcome any
problems that they face along the way. It has been found that managers with higher self efficacy are
more likely to initiate efforts into achieving the set goals for the organization (Paglis et al, 2002).
Ms. Hill works as a transactional leader in the café as she sets goals and rewards or punishes the
employees according to their performance in the job. She helps them achieve their potential by
training them to work effectively. While aiming for customer satisfaction, she also makes sure that the
employees are satisfied with the work environment and the co workers they work with and gives them
employee benefits appropriately. Mark A. Griffin, Malcolm G. Patterson and Michael A. West point
out in the article, Job Satisfaction and Teamwork: The Role of Supervisor Support that job

that the group uses to get their work done and

Discrimination In Canad Poem Analysis
Her daughter faces discrimination because of her color from the Japs, big white boys who are enemies
of Canada. They were chasing her and she ran off to the woods.
It shifts to her mother s past in the fourth line. I was eight years old and the Japs were. The poem
shifts to a time when the mother was young and still a girl and when the Japs were in Canada.
I think the poem is symbolic of the place they currently live and she assures her daughter not to fear
because there are no people who will scare them in Saskatoon, their new home.
This is because the citizen apparently did good to his country. He was found in the Bureau of Statistics
and this means his details were there including his name. It then is ironic that his identity remains

Cross Cultural Interview
Cross Cultural Interview
Culture can be defined as a set of practices, traditions, values, or beliefs a group of people share,
whether it be due to ethnicity, gender, age, or even religion. Having different cultures in a work place
can effectively make a business stronger, especially in the United States where it is known a the
melting pot. I know that in the future I could possibly work at a pharmacy that has employees from
different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, learning now how to understand and be more aware of these
differences would be most beneficial. What better way to do so than to interview someone who is as
far from being the same as myself as possible.
For this interview, I chose to ask a crew trainer I know personally named ... Show more content on

During the interview he stated, in order to be happy in business, one has to learn to respect the
abilities, efforts, quirks and opinions of others. I believe that there are various ways in which
individuals can show respect while in business. According to Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock (2000),
gratitude is of essence in any business. While in business dealings, one is always expected to ensure
that they thank their business colleagues whenever they have done business by assisting or supporting
them in whatever manner. This can be achieved through sending emails, texts, calls to individuals that
you always do business with.
Smith also said that sincerity is one of the major aspects that one can show respect when in business.
While I do believe telling the truth is the best policy as well, sometimes being brutally honest in this
world can bring consequences. Many individuals usually do not like when they are told the truth
especially if it is negative (Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock, 2000). With this being said I was quite puzzled
by Smith s response. So I asked him how being sincere showed respect. He replied that to show
respect in business one should be sincere while thanking them for their efforts, assistance or good

Valjean s Internal Conflict In Les Mise Segarables
Valjean s Internal Conflict
In Les Misérables a storyline of tragedy introduces a character named Valjean who has had a rough
life. From being into prison to living in the streets, he meets a bishop who changed his life. Valjean s
future seems to go smoothly until another character comes into play his parole officer Javert. Javert is
now put into a situation that could either ruin the good in him or the people around him. When
adapting a novel into other mediums, such as a movie or a musical, there are details about internal
conflict that are lost, and potentially added. This is the case when adapting Les Misérables by Victor
Hugo, the song Who Am I? from the musical, and the 1998 film adaptation.
In the novel of Les Misérables Valjean, internal conflict can be seen in a more descriptive form rather
than a visual form compared to the film. Valjean s internal conflict starts off when inspector Javert
brings Monsieur Madeleine who is Valjean news about that the convict Valjean who has been found
and will be put on trial and sent to prison. Valjean fights within himself trying to make the right
decision of either to speak up and take the blame for being the real Valjean or let this innocent man go
to prison for him and live his life with this burden. Valjean can be seen going back and forth in the
novel about if he should turn himself in or stay a free man. He gives reasons why he should not go and
speak up for the innocent man. One of those reasons being The

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Movie Andy
An actor s job is to embody a character to the best of their ability. In order to do this, they need to have
a strong connection with the character and essentially become them. Three actors that have displayed
amazingly unforgettable performances in different movies are Tim Robbins, Jack Nicholson, and Paul
Newman. In The Shawshank Redemption, Tim Robbins is Andy, a man falsely convicted of murder
and forced to spend 19 years in prison. In One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, Jack Nicholson portrays
a character named R.P. McMurphy, a man faking insanity so he can finish serving his prison sentence
in a mental ward. Finally, Paul Newman stars as Luke in Cool Hand Luke, a criminal serving his two
year sentence working in a chain gang. These three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When watching each of the three movies, it is easy to become enthralled because of these actor s
flawless performances. Tim Robbins perfectly captures the patience and perseverance of Andy at
Shawshank Prison. According to a review written by Janet Maslin for The New York Times, Tim
Robbins plays [his role] intensely, and he ages effectively from newcomer to father figure during the
story. His growth from newcomer to father figure is a result of his Andy s patience and perseverance,
and Tim Robbins is able to easily portray this character development. Like Tim Robbins, Jack
Nicholson does a superb job at embodying his character, McMurphy. McMurphy is personified and
made totally credible by Jack Nicholson (Ebert). Lastly, Paul Newman brings Luke to life, but also to
the end of his life. Newman brings this character to the end of its logical development, playing a hero
who becomes an anti hero because he despises the slobs who worship him (Ebert). Newman s
embodiment of Luke depicts his development as a character, all the way to the end. Tim Robbins, Jack
Nicholson, and Paul Newman all take on the character they are portraying as if they are playing
themselves, making their performances

Why Is Truck Driving Difficult
Truck driving is a difficult profession requiring exceptional driving skills, judgment, level headedness,
independence, and stamina. Passing the CDL test alone doesn t mean that one possesses the above
qualities that mark a true professional. Only years of experience will do that. Semi trucks are huge, top
heavy, and unwieldy vehicles that are difficult to drive even when road conditions are good. During
bad weather and especially in the winter, avoiding trucking accidents requires much concentration and
skill from the driver.
Other factors that make truck driving difficult are:
Pay is based on mileage. Truck drivers are commonly paid by the mile rather than by the hour. This
means they aren t making money in stalled out traffic, during mechanical breakdowns, and when

Federal regulations limit the number of continuous hours on the road in order to ensure that truckers
get sufficient rest. This increases the pressure to meet schedules because they can t drive longer to
make up for slow traffic conditions.
The Safety Implications of the Truck Driver Shortage
An increased demand for trucking services accompanied by the retirement of much of its workforce
have produced the current truck driver shortage. The problem is further exacerbated by the high
turnover rate of new hires. Although many people are attracted to the low barrier to entry of this
profession, they quickly learn that the work isn t for them when they encounter the previously
discussed difficulties. An increasing number of truck drivers on the road are inexperienced, and the
high turnover rate perpetuates the problem because few truck drivers remain long enough to gain
sufficient experience and proficiency.
What this means for the average motorist is that they re sharing the road with increasing numbers of
inexperienced truck drivers who must carry larger loads to make up for the driver shortage and are
simultaneously facing the intense pressures described

What Does Personal Values Mean To You
Ever since I was a child I have had a strong sense of what my personal values where and what they
meant to me. Kindness, friendship, perseverance, compassion and integrity have all been foundational
in defining who I am and how I build my relationships. These are values that have affected every
aspect of the person I am today; the amazing people I choose to spend my time with, the drive I have
in every class or sport, and the time set aside to spend with the less fortunate. What I appreciate about

Analysis Of Adaptation Of The Military
Adaptation in the military, especially during wartime, is a known need. The adage no plan survives
first contact was not created because it sounds cool. It is an ominous warning that at some point while
executing your plan, you will be faced with unanticipated and unplanned for situations to which you
will have to adapt. Adaptation is a skill that must be attained, yet is very difficult to learn and even
more difficult to achieve effectively. Every military organization, regardless of nationality, location,
posture, etc., will be required to adapt and their ability to do so effectively may very well decide their
success.
Adaptation, by its very definition, requires something to change, to be altered or presented in another
form. In order to have change, you must have something to change from , a normalcy, a standard or
regular pattern, or as the military calls it, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP s). Tactically
speaking, the use of SOP s in the development of military organizations is what permits these
organizations to develop an effective fighting force. The more knowledgeable and proficient an
organization is of executing their SOP s, the more tactically proficient they become. Through constant
and persistent training in a benign environment, each person of the organization learns and
understands their roles and responsibilities within the organization. Continued training leads to
continued improvement and ultimately to mastery of their

Analysis Of Shakespeare s Hamlet
To Be, Either/Or Not To Be Do it or do not do it you will regret both (Kierkegaard 72) is a quote that
echoes and expounds upon the famous To be, or not to be (Hamlet 3.1.56). The former quote was
written by none other than Danish philosopher and poet, Søren Kierkegaard. Born in 1813, Søren
Kierkegaard was well acquainted with Shakespeare s text and often referred to it in his writings. When
watching Kenneth Branagh s unique, unabridged adaptation of Hamlet, it is apparent that Kenneth
Branagh was able to capture how similar his Hamlet and Søren are in character while making his mark
in cinematography history. The connection between Branagh, Shakespeare, and Kierkegaard goes
beyond the setting and 19th century architecture of Branagh s recreation of Hamlet. Through both
Søren and Kenneth s backstory, choice of esthetics, and their actions in life changing moments the
story of Hamlet has proven to be a guide for both of these extraordinary men. The story of Hamlet: a
Danish prince s beloved father dies and within two months, his mother marries his uncle, which is
considered incestuous and horrendous. While the rest of the courts celebrates, as Kenneth Branagh
chooses to emphasis by having white flower petals rain down from the ceiling like confetti, the
grieving Hamlet has no say in it. It is not nor it cannot come to good: But break, my heart; for I must
hold my tongue (Hamlet 1.2.158 9). In Kierkeggard s review of Shakespeare Hamlet, he notes that
Hamlet suffers

The Secretive World Of Espionage During The Civil War
When you think of the Civil War you think of bloody battles, muskets exploding, bayonets sinking
into enemy soldiers, and people giving their lives for the sake of either the Union or Confederate
States and what they believed in. But most people do not think of one very important factor in the
Civil War. Espionage. Throughout this paper we will be exploring the secretive world of espionage in
the Civil War from both of the opposing sides. The first battle of the Civil War occurred at Fort Sumter
in South Carolina on April 12, 1861. (civilwar.org). The war started over the secession of the Southern
states. In December of 1860, South Carolina seceded. From January to June, Mississippi, Florida,

Webster was arrested and hanged in April 1862 in Richmond, Virginia. (civilwarsignals.org). Another
important spy was Elizabeth Van Lew, also known as Crazy Bett . She ran the largest and most
successful spy ring concentrated in any city. (civilwarsignals.org). One of her team s operatives was a
freed slave who became a servant for the Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The slave worked in
the Confederate White House to eavesdrop on Davis and his visitors. (civilwarsignals.org). An equally
infamous Union espionage leader was Brig. Gen. Lafayette C. Baker, chief of War Department
detectives. As the bullyboy of Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, he shadowed, apprehended,
interrogated, and imprisoned a multitude of Washingtonians, many on the merest suspicion of
disloyalty. Though personally brave, Baker was a ruthless, unsavory character whose high handed
methods and unassailable power made him feared even by associates. (civilwarsignals.org). One of the
most famous female spies of the Union was Sarah Emma Edmonds who got into Confederate camps
close to Yorktown, Virginia, dressed as a black slave. Another was the less successful Pauline
Cushman, an actress and double agent who undeservedly became known as Spy of the Cumberland.
(civilwarsignals.org). Two others were William A. Lloyd and Thomas Boyd. They were Southern
transportation agents who were able to go to Richmond, Savannah, Chattanooga, and New Orleans.

The Indian Removal And The Colonization Of The United...
Between the years 1816 and 1850, over one hundred thousand Indians from sixty different tribes were
relocated from their homelands and moved west; around thirty thousand Indians would die en route.
The Indian Removal stands as one of the cruelest periods in the history of the United States, and is the
result of a long history of war and disagreement between whites and Indians.
Indians and Europeans had their differences. The culture of the Indian tribes was very different than
that of the incoming white settlers. Indian nations held a deep respect for nature, and felt that the land
belonged to no individual. The white European settlers believed in private land ownership. However,
in spite of these differences, some white settlers and Indians developed successful trade relationships.
Still, Indians were long regarded as savages by white Europeans . Spaniards treated them with extreme
brutality, imprisoning Indians and confiscating their lands. And as time passed, Indians and Europeans
would begin to fight over land claims.
200 years later, Indians and Europeans had several written treaties, but the Europeans often ignored
the treaties and encroached on Native territory. Indians sought ways to stop the settlers from taking
their lands, sometimes turning to war.
In the American Revolutionary War, most Indians fought on the side of the British. Indians believed
that Britain was the better option for winning the war, as they hoped the British would help curb the
expansion of

Fire District 13 Research Paper
Fire district 13 is located in the forested valleys and steep foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range at
the base of Mount St. Helens. Access to our district, primarily reached by one main county road, is
limited. With automatic mutual aid to neighboring districts with, major rail, and freeway
interoperability is key. Located above the Cascadia Subduction zone, Clark County is due for a
catastrophic earthquake. The area that includes fire district 13 is a transitional zone between
unoccupied forest land and human development. Being a part of the wildland urban interface zone
puts us at a higher risk for wildfires.
A firefighter s ability to communicate directly and in real time is essential, and serves as a lifeline to
safety. Any communications delay or failure puts lives at risk. Replacing obsolete portable radio
equipment will ensure we can meet mission critical and basic response needs, promoting

The Pardoner s Prologue And Tale Analysis
The Pardoner s Prologue and tale was written by Geoffrey Chaucer, they were part of his stories The
Canterbury Tale . The tales are a collection of 24 stories told by the pilgrims on their way to
Canterbury. While we have only read two The Pardoner s Prologue and Tale , and the Wife of Bath
Prologue and Tale we were able to see what type of stories he was writing. In the Pardoner s stories
Chaucer was showing us many things through his eyes as he sees them. He wanted to show that the
Catholic Church had some issues and he wanted changes within the church.
The pardoner is a story of a long blonde hair, smooth faced person who we could say was either a man
or women. Due to the sexuality on the pardoner Chaucer created some doubt in the reader s ... Show

A way to pass the time while traveling, but also it shows us the insight of how people can make
anything believable, and prays on the fears of others. Sin is the biggest fair that I see as I read the
stories. Yes, we much repent but when there is someone praying on those fears it make people want to
do the right thing no matter what they have to do. The pardons that he was sales were not a sure way
of asking for forgiveness from God but instead he was acting like they were going to save them.
The reading of the tales we see how Chaucer uses satire to bring to life the social life of a woman who
back then was out for herself, with the husband. There was probably talk from everyone, but in today s
world there would not be that much talk. It was not something that women done back then, more
commonly in today.
Greed can and does affect people the same no matter what the times, social environments, it is the rut
of all evil. Over the centuries it is handled differently. Chaucer knew that it was going to be perceived
by others as such. If he was in today s society he would see that there is no difference. We have grown

Female Sexual Offenders And Female Sex Offenders
Just like most crimes, the number of female sexual offenders is much lower than the number of male
sexual offenders. This is especially true about sex offenses. For a while, most people didn t believe
that woman could even commit a sex related crime; besides prostitution. There is still a stigma around
the topic; woman are the victims, not the offenders. This is not true though. Female sex offenders have
their own category. This is because their motives and actions are different than a man s. The research
done on female offenders can be bias because it is such a small amount compared to the male
population of sex offenders.
Woman are thought to make up less than 5% of all sexual offences (Harris, 1979). This is very small
compared to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is almost half of the offenders with a drug problem and one third of them with an alcohol

The victims of a female s sex offender are generally younger than a man s victim. An investigation
was held in Arkansas in 1999 and reported that 50% of their victims were categorized as 11 16 and
24% were in the 4 10 age range (Tewksbury, 2004, p 368). Solis and Benedek mention a study that
found 60% of males who reported sexual abuse had identified a female as the offender (1993). The
female offenders who abuse young boys are suggested that they have a difficult time associating with
adult males and they use the boys as a substitution (Solis and Benedek, 2012). This could be because
of their own trauma as a child, they do not have healthy relationships with any adult male in their life.
So, they go after children. It is also pointed out that females are more likely to victimize other females.
One thought on why females victimize other females is because they have a male counterpart, who is
attracted to females. According to Tewksbury (2004), the female offender knew the victim:
In Fromuth and Conn (1997) s study of self reported sexual perpetrators in a college population, 68%
of the victims were identified as family members. Faller (1995) reported that in the sample of 40
clinically referred perpetrators, 85% were mothers and 55% abused only their own children, whereas
30% abused both their own and other s children.

Management Of Soybean Cyst System
Management of Soybean Cyst Nematode
Soybean cyst management tactics include different methods from place to place, but all have the
common method of using resistant soybean cultivar and crop rotation and these are found to be more
effective than others tactics.(Niblack et al., 2003, Schmitt et al., 2004a, Oyekanmi Fawole, 2010).
Host Resistance
Different resistance genes have been exploited from different soybean germplasm for developing
resistant soybean cultivar against Heterodera glycines (Concibido et al., 2004b). The resistance genes
to Heterodera glycinces were explored first time in soybean germplasm Peking, which conferred three
recessive genes rhg1, rhg2, and rhg3 in 1960(Caldwell et al., 1960) later the fourth new dominant
gene Rhg4 resistant to Heterodera glycinces was also identified in Peking, which was closely linked to
i locus and responsible for distribution of pigmentation of seed coat(Matson Williams, 1965).
Likewise the another dominant resistant gene was discovered in germplasm PI88788 and later named
as Rhg5(Rao Arelli et al., 1992, Rao Arelli, 1994). For developing resistant cultivar against Heterodera
glycines seven differential line PI 548402(Peking), PI 88788, PI 90763, PI 437654, PI 209332, PI
89772, PI 548316 (Cloud) are mostly used out of those seven lines PI 548402(Peking) and PI 88788

Salem Witch Trials Theories
When considering possible explanations for the Salem witch trials, it is important to consider and
reference other historical accounts of witchcraft. Although Salem presents its own unique case, and
therefore is a result of things specific singularly to Salem, there may yet be a link to other cases of
witchcraft. Cases may differ in religion, denomination, or other spiritual beliefs, and social setting.
Additionally, a study of horticulture in the Salem area shows that hallucinogenic mushrooms may
have contributed to the visions of witches. However, I have discovered in my studies that in most
cases, there seems to be growing discontentment in each community before and during accusations of
witchcraft. This is the clearest link between all cases. In my opinion, witchcraft is a result of
suppressed feelings caused by human suffering. This is displayed as accusers in a community using
witchcraft as an excuse to release tension, or rid themselves of enemies. Firstly, to explain my
reasoning, it is important to understand Freud s projection theory. In Freud s book Taboo and
emotional ambivalence, he explains that in simpler societies, an individual learns to suppress negative
feelings about those around them, especially family. Freud describes projection as a defense
mechanism, protecting the ego from anxious or guilty feelings. Negative feelings are projected in an
acceptable manner, complying to religious or spiritual beliefs. A modern example of this would be the

Essay about A Woman Has NO Right to Choose Muder (Abortion)
In our nation today, abortion is being used as another form of birth control. It is not until later, that the
woman realizes the mistake she made. Abortion will continue to be taken for granted until it becomes
illegal. Prohibiting abortion will prevent innocent babies from being deprived of life. Let s begin this
essay by reading at a true life story of a woman who had an abortion.
I learned that I was pregnant at the age of eighteen, shortly after moving in with my boyfriend. Feeling
scared and insecure, I didn t know how a baby would fit into my future. Upon seeking counsel from
friends and family, it seemed logical to consider abortion as an option. After all, I was young, pretty
and intelligent. I had my whole life ahead of me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

surprised at how little physical pain there was. It was similar to having a bowel movement until I
became curious and looked under the covers to see what was there until that instant when I saw a
baby, red and bloody and small, but a baby still. I quickly covered myself back up and called the
nurse. While I waited, I became terrified that it wasn t dead. Lying in the same bed with me was flesh
and blood! The emotions that overwhelmed me in that moment were so strong that my body reacted
with violent, uncontrollable shaking. Tears streamed down my face and panic gripped my heart. (

The Plight Of Young Males Analysis
The war against males
In the essay The Plight of Young Males written by Saul Kaplan, the author has discussed that while
the male gender s evolution has come to a near standstill, there has been significant development on
the female side of education in recent years. I agree with the author in every point that he has
discussed in his article. Kaplan has mentioned in his article that the male s future is not very bright, as
with the contemporary type of schooling system, it has been made for admission not for success,
which is not the best for students.
Although it is very important to support the empowerment of women, we shouldn t forget about what
is happening in the other side with males. Males are facing a lot of issues and impediments that are
preventing them from succeeding in the society. For many years women s groups have protested that
boys have more benefits from the school s regulation than girls do, but now girls are experiencing a
kind of psychological foot binding. Over the past decade in the American education, boys were
annoyed about being obstacles on the path to gender justice for girls. This perspective has been
indorsed in schools by teachers as they feel that girls need more protection. It is obvious that males are
the leaders in our society and in most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kaplan has stated in his article that the statics for the male education is diminishing in a surprising
way in many groups, including further and higher education like collage. Schools have currently
utilized an old fashioned method of a one size fits all type education, that I am really disappointed
about. Instead, schools need to shift themselves more to focus on the individual desires of all enrolled
students to be better and ready to face the real world. Kaplan have mentioned a lot of points that some
people thinks that they are overrated, but In my opinion I think they aren t.

Team Plan For Team Building
Team building alludes to an array of activities embark on to stimulate or inspire others with a goal of
increasing productivity or performance of the team. Team members have to be encouraged and
motivated to perform a task. Team building is a fundamental process for any organization s success.
The leader s knowledge, skills and ability to implement quality team building activities play a vital
role in the success of the organization. Team members have to unite around a common goal and the
desire to accomplish that goal must be the number one priority of the team. Team building is not a one

Implementing team building activities in such cases should be done by departments. Teams with a
leader should be developed by departments to promote cohesiveness and improve morale and
motivation within the department. All of which will improve the overall productivity and cohesiveness
of the organization. Two activities designed to promote team building and improve employee morale
and motivation in higher education settings are (1) a trip out of town and (2) employee of the week by
department.
Off Campus Travel Excursion
The purpose of team building activities is to engage team members in collaboration. Collaboration
stimulates creative thinking, which opens the door for new ideas that increase productivity and
profitability in the organization. Collaboration is essential for unifying team members to accomplish
goals. Creating a collaborative atmosphere encourages team members to support and hold each other
accountable for accomplishing a task or goal. Therefore, the success of an organization depends
largely on how employees function as a cohesive group. One way to get employees to function as a
cohesive group is to get them out of the everyday office environment (Rickert, 2012). Rickert further
shares that, employees form stronger relationships and are more receptive of the each other s strong
points and skills when they gather together outside of normal routines and procedures of the
workplace setting. Employees find traveling to off campus team

Babylonian Empire Religion
What can be learnt of personal and state religion from the religious and divine iconography and
symbolism present on kudurru from European museum collections?
Following the collapse of the first Babylonian Dynasty and the so termed golden age of Hammurabi s
reign, the Babylonian kingdom eventually stabilised under the influence of the new Kassite Dynasty.
The Kassites promptly implemented the Babylonian language as well as Babylonian cultural values
and traditions. They introduced the use of stone steles known as kudurrus. The evidence of the use of
kudurrus dictates that later dynasties continued the practice until the 7th century BC.

I would like to include a brief explanation of the refocus of my initial question. Prior to my study tour,
after several meetings with my study tour supervisor I was advised that I should broaden my question
to investigate depictions and representations of religion within Mesopotamia, and simultaneously to
keep an open mind regarding objects from European collections which could potentially help me
narrow down my ideas if I was inspired to do so. During the study tour it became apparent that many
of the objects which I had initially expected to be able to assist me in answering my question were not
usable in my report. One of the major obstacles was the design of some exhibitions and displays.
Although I found these exhibitions to be innovative and extremely accessible to the public, an
unfortunate consequence was that various objects became difficult to properly represent through
photography, obscured by magnifying glasses, mirrors and specialised lighting. These factors
ultimately led to a minor refocus and a narrowing down of my question to focus on

had to walk a substantial distance to her school, With her sisters, Jessie then walked three miles to
their country school, one classroom in a wooden bungalow (Soto 52). Even though both girls had
different upbringings, each faced an unjustness. Mendez had money and attended a white school but
was later kicked out due to her race. Her father, Gonzalo Mendez, was furious; thus, began the court
case battle of Mendez v. Westminster. He strongly believed all children deserved an equal education.
The young Hispanic students attended an old school with rundown facilities; yet, everyone said it was
separate but equal . Mendez eventually won the case, and the Caucasian and Hispanic schools were
integrated. In my school, I barely learned about these two huge events; I read Esperanza Rising as a

history to be added to the curriculum, which I completely support. Teaching students only the

factors of home schooling that can be combined with our current public school curriculum With that
being said there many disadvantages that bring forth dangers in both system that should be taken into
account. In order to make an informed decision we must examine both systems flaws. Then work on
eliminating them and use their attributes to rebuild education in general. There is a reason why both

discouraged parents from enrolling there kids in public schools. He warned families that school were
centered around factory like learning that rendered students compliant. He wanted to rid children of
this compliant behavior which later came to be known as unschooling . Holts preaching was able to

The Potential Effects of a Depleted Ozone Layer
quot; And God said, let there be light and there was light and then God saw the light, that it was good

Without light man could not survive. Light is the ultimate cosmic force in this universe allowing man
to progress and flourish. In the form of heat, light from the sun warms the Earth. Light, also, is the
single most important factor influencing the growth and development of plants. Photosynthesis, a

Regrettably, there have always been times of hunger and shortages. More frighteningly, in the present
world man is confronted with a population boom which is burgeoning near the six billion mark. It is
now more important than ever to protect, maintain, and hopefully increase the amount of food grown.
One of the drawbacks of industrialization has been the significant depletion of the ozone layer. This
depletion could have an incredibly devastating impact on the world and more specifically agriculture.
In general, quot; plants are quite sensitive and fragile when confronted with ultraviolet increases quot;
( Zimmer,
1993, p.28 ). Words such as sensitivity and fragility only add to the urgency of the possible
agricultural holocaust. One agricultural scientist remarked, quot; soybeans, tomatoes, tobacco,
potatoes, corn, beans, and wheat are all especially sensitive to UV light quot; ( Jones, 1992, p.39 ).
Since most of the mentioned crops are considered cash crops the economic aspect of lower crop yields
could also spell disaster. Food supplies are surely in jeopardy when taking in to account that quot;
more than two thirds of the plant species mainly crops tested for their reaction to ultraviolet light have
been found to be damaged by it quot; ( Lean et al, 1990, p.97 ). An increase in ultraviolet light
radiating towards plants accelerates the pace at which man must decide what to do with the dilemma

How Does Shakespeare Create Identity In Macbeth
Someone can only be two faced for so long before the authenticity of ones true self overcomes the
disguise. Macbeth attempted to hide a part of himself in the play only to be revealed at the end.
Throughout Macbeth Shakespeare used the motifs of blood, titles, and masks to gradually reveal
Macbeth s true desires.
At the beginning of the play Macbeth is a respected warrior, loved by his country. Shakespeare uses
the motif of blood throughout the play, but in Act 1 the only bloodshed is from the thane of Cawdor,
enemy of Scotland. He was unseamed from the naves to the chops by Macbeth, which was seen as an

Macbeth questions himself Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood / clean from my hand?
which shows his remorse for the person he has become, or been this whole time. At this point Macbeth
is still fighting to find his identity between his two faces, as shown by the contrast in his actions and
his remorse for them. This aids the gradual reveal in his true identity with the use of blood rather than
just stating the change. By now those who are suspicious of Macbeth are beginning to catch on to the
other side of him, and they begin to refer to him as black Macbeth, or devilish Macbeth. This is an
obvious change from the royal and respectful titles at the beginning of the play and the reader can see

tries to hide what her husband has done, using their nightgowns to mask their deeds of that night:

Common Misconceptions Of The Health Community
Common misconceptions in the health community revolve around what the body needs versus what
media says the body needs. Are dietary supplements efficient? Are they even necessary? To answer
these questions, one must investigate the three most popular supplements herbal, pill, and gel capsules
in order to determine which type best suits the body s needs.
Although they are one of the most ancient practices of medicine, certain herbal supplements have no
impact on the body while others do. Herbs are a type of plant, but the stem of an herb is not as hardy,
[and does not have a] woody structure which makes herbs easy to consume ( Herbs ). Because herbs
do not have a woody structure they have the capacity to be consumed in various ways. In the past
herbs were consumed as tea, although this practice is still in effect; people prefer consuming herbs via
extractions. One of the most popular methods of extraction is the whole herb method which asserts
that all of a plant s compounds contribute to its ability to heal and protect health [;] this method
ensures that one receives the purest form of the natural herb (Ogden). Purity is a standard that many
companies swear by, and herbal companies are no different. Herb Pham, for example, is a very

Consumerism And Free Market Economy
In today s society, it is becoming increasingly impossible for one to be watching television, reading a
magazine, or watching a sporting event without being flooded with the images of commercialism.
Messages in our televisions and print sources that encourages us to buy are created by people who
uses their talent to speak to both our conscious and subconscious desires. The products that we buy,
the food that we consume, the clothes and shoes that we wear, and our everyday lives are influenced
by commercialism. Proponents for commercialism can argue that commercialism as essential in the
enhancement of capitalism and free market economy. It can also lead to innovation competition of
companies in meeting the needs of consumers. However, Commercialism can lead to an increase in
wasteful consumption or consumerism. It can also lead to the depletion of natural resources in trying
to meet the consumption needs of the people.
Although commercialism have it draw backs, it is not all bad; commercialism promotes capitalism and
free trade both of which are very essential in our American Society. Only by producing and selling
goods and services does capitalism work. Commercialism allows for the free flow of information
between producers and consumers about good and services, and as a result, consumers are having the
ability to make preferences about their purchasing choices. It can lead to more equal and a wider
distribution of goods and services from which people can choose from.

  • 2. Interview with a Manager | MANAGER INTERVIEW | | | Introduction: Leadership is understanding people and involving them to help you do a job. That takes all of the good characteristics, like integrity, dedication of purpose, selflessness, knowledge, skill, implacability, as well as determination not to accept failure (Burke 1995). The purpose of this paper is to interview a manager from an organization and find out the leadership styles she uses to effectively manage the staff there. This paper also looks at the approach she uses toward employment satisfaction, how she motivates the employees and analyzes the different approaches she uses in her job. The manager that I interviewed works in Loui Café in Penn University. Her name is Bobby Hill and she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If everyone worked equally aiming towards the same goal, the employees will be satisfied with their job and in turn the customers will be happy with the service they received. Laura L. Paglis and Stephen G. Green states in the article, Leadership Self Efficacy and Managers Motivation for Leading Change that leadership efficacy helps in building the relationship of the manager with the employees, gaining their commitment to the organization to change goals that have been set, and overcome any problems that they face along the way. It has been found that managers with higher self efficacy are more likely to initiate efforts into achieving the set goals for the organization (Paglis et al, 2002). Ms. Hill works as a transactional leader in the café as she sets goals and rewards or punishes the employees according to their performance in the job. She helps them achieve their potential by training them to work effectively. While aiming for customer satisfaction, she also makes sure that the employees are satisfied with the work environment and the co workers they work with and gives them employee benefits appropriately. Mark A. Griffin, Malcolm G. Patterson and Michael A. West point out in the article, Job Satisfaction and Teamwork: The Role of Supervisor Support that job satisfactions depends on three main factors; the organization and formation of the group, the process that the group uses to get their work done and ... • 3. Discrimination In Canad Poem Analysis Her daughter faces discrimination because of her color from the Japs, big white boys who are enemies of Canada. They were chasing her and she ran off to the woods. It shifts to her mother s past in the fourth line. I was eight years old and the Japs were. The poem shifts to a time when the mother was young and still a girl and when the Japs were in Canada. I think the poem is symbolic of the place they currently live and she assures her daughter not to fear because there are no people who will scare them in Saskatoon, their new home. This is because the citizen apparently did good to his country. He was found in the Bureau of Statistics and this means his details were there including his name. Cross Cultural Interview Cross Cultural Interview Culture can be defined as a set of practices, traditions, values, or beliefs a group of people share, whether it be due to ethnicity, gender, age, or even religion. Having different cultures in a work place can effectively make a business stronger, especially in the United States where it is known a the melting pot. I know that in the future I could possibly work at a pharmacy that has employees from different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, learning now how to understand and be more aware of these differences would be most beneficial. What better way to do so than to interview someone who is as far from being the same as myself as possible. For this interview, I chose to ask a crew trainer I know personally named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the interview he stated, in order to be happy in business, one has to learn to respect the abilities, efforts, quirks and opinions of others. I believe that there are various ways in which individuals can show respect while in business. According to Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock (2000), gratitude is of essence in any business. While in business dealings, one is always expected to ensure that they thank their business colleagues whenever they have done business by assisting or supporting them in whatever manner. This can be achieved through sending emails, texts, calls to individuals that you always do business with. Smith also said that sincerity is one of the major aspects that one can show respect when in business. While I do believe telling the truth is the best policy as well, sometimes being brutally honest in this world can bring consequences. Many individuals usually do not like when they are told the truth especially if it is negative (Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock, 2000). With this being said I was quite puzzled by Smith s response. So I asked him how being sincere showed respect. He replied that to show respect in business one should be sincere while thanking them for their efforts, assistance or good ... • 5. Valjean s Internal Conflict In Les Mise Segarables Valjean s Internal Conflict In Les Misérables a storyline of tragedy introduces a character named Valjean who has had a rough life. From being into prison to living in the streets, he meets a bishop who changed his life. Valjean s future seems to go smoothly until another character comes into play his parole officer Javert. Javert is now put into a situation that could either ruin the good in him or the people around him. When adapting a novel into other mediums, such as a movie or a musical, there are details about internal conflict that are lost, and potentially added. This is the case when adapting Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, the song Who Am I? from the musical, and the 1998 film adaptation. In the novel of Les Misérables Valjean, internal conflict can be seen in a more descriptive form rather than a visual form compared to the film. Valjean s internal conflict starts off when inspector Javert brings Monsieur Madeleine who is Valjean news about that the convict Valjean who has been found and will be put on trial and sent to prison. Valjean fights within himself trying to make the right decision of either to speak up and take the blame for being the real Valjean or let this innocent man go to prison for him and live his life with this burden. Valjean can be seen going back and forth in the novel about if he should turn himself in or stay a free man. He gives reasons why he should not go and speak up for the innocent man. When watching each of the three movies, it is easy to become enthralled because of these actor s flawless performances. Tim Robbins perfectly captures the patience and perseverance of Andy at Shawshank Prison. According to a review written by Janet Maslin for The New York Times, Tim Robbins plays [his role] intensely, and he ages effectively from newcomer to father figure during the story. His growth from newcomer to father figure is a result of his Andy s patience and perseverance, and Tim Robbins is able to easily portray this character development. Like Tim Robbins, Jack Nicholson does a superb job at embodying his character, McMurphy. McMurphy is personified and made totally credible by Jack Nicholson (Ebert). Lastly, Paul Newman brings Luke to life, but also to the end of his life. Newman brings this character to the end of its logical development, playing a hero who becomes an anti hero because he despises the slobs who worship him (Ebert). Passing the CDL test alone doesn t mean that one possesses the above qualities that mark a true professional. Only years of experience will do that. Semi trucks are huge, top heavy, and unwieldy vehicles that are difficult to drive even when road conditions are good. During bad weather and especially in the winter, avoiding trucking accidents requires much concentration and skill from the driver. Federal regulations limit the number of continuous hours on the road in order to ensure that truckers get sufficient rest. The Safety Implications of the Truck Driver Shortage An increased demand for trucking services accompanied by the retirement of much of its workforce have produced the current truck driver shortage. The problem is further exacerbated by the high turnover rate of new hires. Although many people are attracted to the low barrier to entry of this profession, they quickly learn that the work isn t for them when they encounter the previously discussed difficulties. • 9. Analysis Of Adaptation Of The Military Adaptation in the military, especially during wartime, is a known need. The adage no plan survives first contact was not created because it sounds cool. It is an ominous warning that at some point while executing your plan, you will be faced with unanticipated and unplanned for situations to which you will have to adapt. Adaptation is a skill that must be attained, yet is very difficult to learn and even more difficult to achieve effectively. Every military organization, regardless of nationality, location, posture, etc., will be required to adapt and their ability to do so effectively may very well decide their success. Adaptation, by its very definition, requires something to change, to be altered or presented in another form. In order to have change, you must have something to change from , a normalcy, a standard or regular pattern, or as the military calls it, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP s). Tactically speaking, the use of SOP s in the development of military organizations is what permits these organizations to develop an effective fighting force. The more knowledgeable and proficient an organization is of executing their SOP s, the more tactically proficient they become. • 11. Analysis Of Shakespeare s Hamlet To Be, Either/Or Not To Be Do it or do not do it you will regret both (Kierkegaard 72) is a quote that echoes and expounds upon the famous To be, or not to be (Hamlet 3.1.56). The former quote was written by none other than Danish philosopher and poet, Søren Kierkegaard. Born in 1813, Søren Kierkegaard was well acquainted with Shakespeare s text and often referred to it in his writings. When watching Kenneth Branagh s unique, unabridged adaptation of Hamlet, it is apparent that Kenneth Branagh was able to capture how similar his Hamlet and Søren are in character while making his mark in cinematography history. The connection between Branagh, Shakespeare, and Kierkegaard goes beyond the setting and 19th century architecture of Branagh s recreation of Hamlet. Through both Søren and Kenneth s backstory, choice of esthetics, and their actions in life changing moments the story of Hamlet has proven to be a guide for both of these extraordinary men. The story of Hamlet: a Danish prince s beloved father dies and within two months, his mother marries his uncle, which is considered incestuous and horrendous. While the rest of the courts celebrates, as Kenneth Branagh chooses to emphasis by having white flower petals rain down from the ceiling like confetti, the grieving Hamlet has no say in it. It is not nor it cannot come to good: But break, my heart; for I must hold my tongue (Hamlet 1.2.158 9). In Kierkeggard s review of Shakespeare Hamlet, he notes that Hamlet suffers ... One of her team s operatives was a freed slave who became a servant for the Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Between the years 1816 and 1850, over one hundred thousand Indians from sixty different tribes were relocated from their homelands and moved west; around thirty thousand Indians would die en route. The Indian Removal stands as one of the cruelest periods in the history of the United States, and is the result of a long history of war and disagreement between whites and Indians. Indians and Europeans had their differences. The culture of the Indian tribes was very different than that of the incoming white settlers. Indian nations held a deep respect for nature, and felt that the land belonged to no individual. The white European settlers believed in private land ownership. However, in spite of these differences, some white settlers and Indians developed successful trade relationships. Still, Indians were long regarded as savages by white Europeans . Spaniards treated them with extreme brutality, imprisoning Indians and confiscating their lands. And as time passed, Indians and Europeans would begin to fight over land claims. 200 years later, Indians and Europeans had several written treaties, but the Europeans often ignored the treaties and encroached on Native territory. Indians sought ways to stop the settlers from taking their lands, sometimes turning to war. In the American Revolutionary War, most Indians fought on the side of the British. • 17. The Pardoner s Prologue And Tale Analysis The Pardoner s Prologue and tale was written by Geoffrey Chaucer, they were part of his stories The Canterbury Tale . The tales are a collection of 24 stories told by the pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. While we have only read two The Pardoner s Prologue and Tale , and the Wife of Bath Prologue and Tale we were able to see what type of stories he was writing. In the Pardoner s stories Chaucer was showing us many things through his eyes as he sees them. He wanted to show that the Catholic Church had some issues and he wanted changes within the church. The pardons that he was sales were not a sure way of asking for forgiveness from God but instead he was acting like they were going to save them. The reading of the tales we see how Chaucer uses satire to bring to life the social life of a woman who back then was out for herself, with the husband. This is especially true about sex offenses. For a while, most people didn t believe that woman could even commit a sex related crime; besides prostitution. There is still a stigma around the topic; woman are the victims, not the offenders. This is not true though. Female sex offenders have their own category. This is because their motives and actions are different than a man s. Solis and Benedek mention a study that found 60% of males who reported sexual abuse had identified a female as the offender (1993). The female offenders who abuse young boys are suggested that they have a difficult time associating with adult males and they use the boys as a substitution (Solis and Benedek, 2012). This could be because of their own trauma as a child, they do not have healthy relationships with any adult male in their life. So, they go after children. It is also pointed out that females are more likely to victimize other females. One thought on why females victimize other females is because they have a male counterpart, who is attracted to females. According to Tewksbury (2004), the female offender knew the victim: In Fromuth and Conn (1997) s study of self reported sexual perpetrators in a college population, 68% of the victims were identified as family members. Although Salem presents its own unique case, and therefore is a result of things specific singularly to Salem, there may yet be a link to other cases of witchcraft. Cases may differ in religion, denomination, or other spiritual beliefs, and social setting. Additionally, a study of horticulture in the Salem area shows that hallucinogenic mushrooms may have contributed to the visions of witches. However, I have discovered in my studies that in most cases, there seems to be growing discontentment in each community before and during accusations of witchcraft. This is the clearest link between all cases. In my opinion, witchcraft is a result of suppressed feelings caused by human suffering. This is displayed as accusers in a community using witchcraft as an excuse to release tension, or rid themselves of enemies. Firstly, to explain my reasoning, it is important to understand Freud s projection theory. In Freud s book Taboo and emotional ambivalence, he explains that in simpler societies, an individual learns to suppress negative feelings about those around them, especially family. Freud describes projection as a defense mechanism, protecting the ego from anxious or guilty feelings.
