• Mind mapping is used to articulate and capture thoughts, idea and information. (as per BABOK Version 3.0)
• It’s as simple as taking notes that captures the above three in a diagrammatic way. Mind maps are diagrams that are created
using words, notes, images, colours and connected relationships to apply logical structure to thoughts, ideas and information.
• Business Analyst can use Mind mapping to:
1. Apply Design thinking concept so as to touch upon root level of each and every aspect of problem/Buss. Requirement.
2. Assemble all the generated wild ideas on complex requirements to structure them logically.
3. To identify the relationships between various levels of requirements in a manner that inspired critical thinking, decision making and creativity.
4. And finally present the consolidated view of complex concepts or problems in a most appropriate way.
• Apart from above Mind mapping is also used in various areas of application:
1. Problem Solving
2. Planning
3. In prioritization Ideas
4. To reach upon consensus that which sources of Business Analysis information should be consulted with stakeholder
5. To collaboratively identify the most effective Requirement Elicitation technique
6. To recognize potential stakeholders and to understand the relationships between them

At a very basic level a mind map has a central Idea, revolving around which second level ideas (topics)
forms supportive. Again followed by third level of ideas (sub-topics) and so on to fully capture the concept
and then to articulate it in a structure way.

Main Topic
• The main topic is associated with rest of the topics, or subtopics with the help of connected lines (Branch) which may have a
keyword with it.
Sub Topics
• There can be various level of topics/subtopics which are again representation of thoughts, idea or information further drilling
down and in a relation with main topic
Branches
• Inter-relation between the main topic, topic and sub topic.
Keywords
• Single words used to articulate the purpose of the association of topics or sub topics connected by branch.
Colour
• Are often use to make mind map more interactive and to help make understand prioritization, categorization and analyze topics,
or associations
Images
• Images/Symbol can be used in to express larger volumes of information that are unable to express in short topic headings.
