Editor's Notes

  • #3 A pc on every desk and in every home
  • #22 Mobile first: When we say Mobile first we mean Mobility First (but then the Mission Statement isn´t fluent anymore: Platform and Productivity company for the Mobility first cloud first world). Mobile first is not one form factor. It’s about multiple devices. Every device out there is going to have multiple MS icons and each one of them is an entry point into this digital work life eco system of ours. I am going to have devices in my pocket, I am going to wear stuff, move between devices during the day. All my documents, all my preferences have to roam, I may start a task in on place and finish in another place (Mvv: mobility is more like different scenarios of mobile usage or digital experiences. It is like the use of the word internet 15 years ago. We had separate internet divisions, projects, products. Now internet is the backbone of all the stuff we do. It is integrated in all we do. The same will happen with mobile (and cloud by the way). So let’s discuss our mobile device strategy and how this changed from Ballmer to Nadella. Ballmer was the one that bought the Nokia device division. What Nadella has done is change the purpose. So from creating a lot of first party devices and monetizing through that like Apple to using our first party devices to show how our software can shine. You might have seen that our OS is now free for other 3rd parties, that we have signed up a lot of new OEM´s recently (although apparently we lost Huawei) and that we are letting go of 50% of the Nokia employees (12.500) because of this changing purpose and that is a brave and impactful decision. Nokia will also bring us a lot of design, manufacturing and supply chain management experience.
