WHEN IT ALL STARTED..
• MICROSOFT started back in 1975 when Bill and Paul wanted to
write a programming language called BASIC to work on their
Altair 8800, which was the first successful PC.
• Altair was programmed directly using the tiny switches on the
front of the PC by toggling them.
• Bill thought that a basic interpreter would make it lot more
easier for the people to program on Altair using a keyboard.
https://www.slideshare.net/GaganKumar105
THE START UP !!!
This interpreter was MICROSOFT’s first ever
product and it was just 4Kb on a paper tape.
Microsoft started growing and developing
many more forms of BASIC through the
early 1980s.
Microsoft also released its first hardware in
1980 called the SOFT CARD which allowed
the operating system Basic-90 to be installed
on apple computers.

THE GROWTH ..
Speaking of DOS, MICROSOFT agreed to produce DOS for
IBM in 1981, which made Microsoft a software giant raising
their yearly revenue from $16 million to $97 million in the
next 3 years.

LOOKS GOOD
In 1983, MICROSOFT came up with MS
WORD which was notable for being
one of the first
“what-you-see-is-what-you-get” word
processors, it is because you could see
italics and bold on screen, instead of
having to type in a command for the
printer to print what you want.

Microsoft released WINDOWS 1.0 in
1985, it was widely criticized for relying
too much on the mouse, as most of the
computers then didn’t even have one.
5 years later Microsoft released windows
3.0 which was a massive hit for the use of
icons to represent programs. The same
year Microsoft also released MS Office.
https://www.slideshare.net/GaganKumar105
• Then in 1995,they release windows 95, which introduced
start menu, taskbar, internet explorer and lot more.
• By this time Microsoft had become the dominant force in
the consumer software industry
• Windows XP released in 2001 was incredibly successful.
• Reports showed that XP was installed on 85 % of the
desktop computers at one point, although another report
showed the proportion to illegal installations as 45%, hence
MICROSOFT introduced product activation.
• Then XP was followed by vista, windows 8, and currently
windows 10.

TODAY..
• At present Microsoft is working on various other
platforms out of its traditional OS development, like
OneDrive Cloud Storage, Skype, Bing, XBOX and
HoloLens.
• Microsoft is now valued $753 billion, which makes it
the third most valuable company in the world,
behind Apple and Amazon.
