Walter Disney created Mickey Mouse in 1928 as the first character for his animation studio. Originally called Mortimer Mouse, the character was renamed Mickey Mouse for Walt Disney's wife. Mickey Mouse made his debut in the comic strip in 1930 and in his first animated film in 1928. He has since become one of the most recognizable characters in the world, starring in over 140 films.
