2. John William Waterhouse
The Lady of Shalott was painted by
John William Waterhouse in 1888.
John William Waterhouse was a
famous English painter known for
working in the Academic Style and
and for then embracing the Pre-
Raphaelite Brotherhood’s style.
He was born in Rome but after
moved to England where he began
exhibiting his paintings.

3. His paintings were known for their depictions of
women from the Greek and Arthurian mythology. He
was also very famous for his literary painting, on of the
most famous ones is The lady of shallot. It represents
the end of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem called The
lady of shallot too.
His artwork are mostly from the Romanticism art
movement.
