Metoprolol is a beta-blocker used to treat angina, high blood pressure, and prevent heart attacks by affecting the heart and blood flow. It should not be used if one has serious heart conditions, circulation problems, heart failure, or a history of slow heart beats causing fainting. Common side effects include dizziness, tiredness, diarrhea and rashes. The usual adult dose for angina is an initial 100mg orally divided into 1-2 doses, then a maintenance dose of 100-450mg per day.
