Film promotion is an important part of the film industry due to the high financial risk of film production. Marketing budgets for films often equal half to three times the production budget in order to maximize early revenue. Common marketing methods include paid television advertising, production placement in other television shows, extended placements on talk shows and news programs, behind-the-scenes documentaries, trailer teasers on DVDs, viral marketing and websites, print advertising, merchandising partnerships, and promotional tours with interviews of cast and crew. The goal is to promote the film and build audiences through widespread advertising and publicity in the weeks leading up to and following a film's release.
