The members of the Nicaraguan Astronomers and Astrophysicists Association conducted an exploratory trip to Pantasma Valley to determine if a meteorite had fallen there. They identified rocks showing evidence of a meteorite impact and collected potential meteorite samples. Further studies are needed to fully confirm the finding, but initial evidence from the rocks' composition suggests they are the remnants of a meteorite that fell and spread debris in the area. One theory is that large meteorite impacts can cause elevation effects on the opposite side of the globe, and this site may be linked to islands that emerged off Australia's coast.
