3) While there are some uncertainties, particularly for the first trial, the results validate the hypothesis that heavier objects will form deeper craters due to their greater impact force on landing.

Various industrial challenges in full scale data handling situations in shipping are considered in this study. These large scale data handling approaches are often categorized as "Big Data" challenges; therefore various solutions to overcome such situations are identified. The proposed approach consists of a marine engine centered data flow path with various data handling layers to address the same challenges. These layers are categorized as: sensor fault detection, data classification, data compression, data transmission and receiver, data expansion, integrity verification, and data regression. The functionalities of each data handling layer with respect to ship performance and navigation information of a selected vessel are discussed and additional challenges that are encountered during this process are also summarized. Hence, these results can be used to develop data analytics that are related to energy efficiency and system reliability applications of shipping.

Appellate Courts - Deciding What to Decidetaratoot
The Supreme Court has discretionary jurisdiction over most of its caseload and uses a screening procedure to decide which cases it will hear. The screening process involves an initial review of filed appeals, responses from respondents, and further screening including discussion in conference. Cases are selected based on factors like whether they present conflicts between lower courts or raise important legal questions. Informal factors like civil liberties issues or disagreement among lower court judges can also influence decisions. Ultimately, whether a case is granted certiorari depends largely on the ideological preferences of the sitting justices.

This document discusses legal translation and the challenges involved. It defines legal translation as any document used within the legal system, such as contracts, certificates, wills, and court documents. Legal translation requires expertise in legal terminology and practices of both the source and target legal systems. Challenges include polysemy, redundancy, capitalization conventions, use of "shall", Latin terms, and linking words. Translating the intended meaning while avoiding deviation from the original content requires detective work and research by the legal translator. The document provides examples of Latin terms, capitalization, linking words, and legalese to illustrate these challenges.
Transnational anti-corruption law March 2014_NYU Colloquium (2)Bruno Paschoal
This document provides an introduction and overview of two case studies examining the application of transnational anti-corruption law in Argentina and Brazil. The case studies aim to test the "institutional complementarity theory" which claims that foreign legal institutions can effectively complement local anti-corruption efforts by pursuing actors and assets beyond the reach of local authorities. The first case involves bribery by Siemens AG in Argentina. The second case involves embezzlement in a construction project in Brazil. Both cases involved investigations and legal proceedings in multiple jurisdictions, including efforts to recover corrupt assets held overseas.
This document discusses the laws around covertly recording conversations without consent in Australia. It addresses whether recording phone calls or in-person conversations is lawful, and if covert recordings can be used as evidence in court. Recording phone calls without permission is illegal under federal law. Covertly recording in-person conversations is also generally prohibited by state surveillance laws, with some narrow exceptions. Even if a recording was made legally, judges have discretion to exclude covert recordings as evidence in criminal and sometimes civil cases. Local government officers should be particularly cautious about assuming a conversation can be legally recorded.

The members of the Nicaraguan Astronomers and Astrophysicists Association conducted an exploratory trip to Pantasma Valley to determine if a meteorite had fallen there. They identified rocks showing evidence of a meteorite impact and collected potential meteorite samples. Further studies are needed to fully confirm the finding, but initial evidence from the rocks' composition suggests they are the remnants of a meteorite that fell and spread debris in the area. One theory is that large meteorite impacts can cause elevation effects on the opposite side of the globe, and this site may be linked to islands that emerged off Australia's coast.

Lifting the Corporate Veil. Power Point Presentationseri bangash
"Lifting the Corporate Veil" is a legal concept that refers to the judicial act of disregarding the separate legal personality of a corporation or limited liability company (LLC). Normally, a corporation is considered a legal entity separate from its shareholders or members, meaning that the personal assets of shareholders or members are protected from the liabilities of the corporation. However, there are certain situations where courts may decide to "pierce" or "lift" the corporate veil, holding shareholders or members personally liable for the debts or actions of the corporation.
Here are some common scenarios in which courts might lift the corporate veil:
Fraud or Illegality: If shareholders or members use the corporate structure to perpetrate fraud, evade legal obligations, or engage in illegal activities, courts may disregard the corporate entity and hold those individuals personally liable.
Undercapitalization: If a corporation is formed with insufficient capital to conduct its intended business and meet its foreseeable liabilities, and this lack of capitalization results in harm to creditors or other parties, courts may lift the corporate veil to hold shareholders or members liable.
Failure to Observe Corporate Formalities: Corporations and LLCs are required to observe certain formalities, such as holding regular meetings, maintaining separate financial records, and avoiding commingling of personal and corporate assets. If these formalities are not observed and the corporate structure is used as a mere façade, courts may disregard the corporate entity.
Alter Ego: If there is such a unity of interest and ownership between the corporation and its shareholders or members that the separate personalities of the corporation and the individuals no longer exist, courts may treat the corporation as the alter ego of its owners and hold them personally liable.
Group Enterprises: In some cases, where multiple corporations are closely related or form part of a single economic unit, courts may pierce the corporate veil to achieve equity, particularly if one corporation's actions harm creditors or other stakeholders and the corporate structure is being used to shield culpable parties from liability.
