Abstract
This paper explores the pros and cons of using digital formats verses print formats of textbooks,
particularly e textbooks and traditional textbooks, and seeks to ask how effective these textbook
formats are for university students and their studies. The purpose of this paper is to examine these
different textbook formats is to see which has the potential and ability to help students in the best

Because we live in a modern age of much technological advancements, many students in
universities are looking to see if it is still worth buying physical textbooks or to utilize digital
formats like e textbooks as a means of efficiency or even as a way to cut costs of paying for
expensive textbooks. To understand which format is more effective, we need to study the different
formats and see what are the strengths and weaknesses found in the two different formats. This
paper will examine research done by multiple researchers and use their research to help find the
format that best helps students to study and retain material learned from their textbook
Defining E textbooks and Traditional Textbooks
E textbooks are often defined as texts that are able to be accessed on electronic devices. Most
research has defined them as texts that are digital and accessed via electronic screens
(Rockinson Szapkiw, Courdoff, Carter, Bennett, 2012), in which there two formats that exist.
The first format is the page fidelity e textbook and second is the reflowable digital e textbook.
The page fidelity e textbook is a simple scanned picture of the print version of a book, which can
usually come in the form of a PDF (Rockinson Szapkiw, Courdoff, Carter, Bennett, 2012). The page
fidelity e textbook has no

Lawrence V. Hodges Case Study
The Fourteenth Amendment, which was approved amid the Reconstruction period to ensure the
privileges of minorities, is the law within the Lawrence v. Texas and Obergefell v. Hodges case.
In a Houston, Texas apartment five years back, nearby police were dispatched to answer reports of
gunfire. They legally entered the apartment of petitioner John Lawrence, who was engaging in sex
with another man. The two were arrested, convicted and fined $200. Texas statue making it illegal
for two individuals of the same sex to partake in sexual relationships with one another violated their
Fourteenth Amendment rights. The court justified that Lawrence and Garner were allowed to
exercise their liberty by engaging in private relations under the Due Process Clause.
The advancement of the Fourteenth Amendment, as indicated by Eric Foner in Our Living
Constitution , speaks on how to concede a protected right to security and to keep the administration
from forcing on that privilege is the foundation to this decision. Granting without acknowledging
that society has considered same sex relations as immoral it does not follow that this is a sufficient

every state. Fourteen same sex couples, with two individuals whose same sex partners were
deceased, filed suits in federal districts courts of their home state s, arguing that respondents state
officials violated the 14th Amendment denying the individuals the right to marry or lawfully marry
in another state given full recognition. One of the petitioners, Obergefell, had established a lasting
commitment together with John Arthur but unfortunately Arthur was diagnosed with Amyotrophic

Allday V. Cage Document Analysis
For a will to incorporate a document by reference, the will must so clearly identify the document
as to preclude all probability of mistake as to the [document] referred to . Allday v. Cage. The
courts do not favor ambiguity when a document is referenced in a will because the meaning of
the will may be altered. Brooker v. Brooker. A will describes a document with sufficient clarity if
the description of the document contains the correct date and name(s) in the document. In
Allday v. Cage, the court held that a [document] between [Mrs. M. J. Crow] and J. H. Cage, John
Cage, Day Cage, Jessie White and F. S. White... September 14th, 1910 described in the will by
its date and names included was incorporated into the will. In contrast, the court held that a
document described simply as deed did not sufficiently describe the document for incorporation
into a will. Brooker v. Brooker. If a will references a document and identifies the individual
possessing it, the document will be incorporated into the will. For example, if a last will and
testament is handwritten onto the back of a postcard and includes a note that says handle pursuant
to the incomplete will Doris has , the incomplete will may be found to be a document incorporated
by reference into the will written on the postcard. Trim v. Daniels.... Show more content on

In Taylor v. Republic National Bank of Dallas, the court found a document referenced to be
incorporated into the will invalid because it required the animated participation of an individual
who had died. In the aforementioned case, the will failed to accurately describe the contents of the
document as the individual was also the testator of the will. Also, a will that does not describe the
contents of a document will not be found by the courts to have incorporated the document by its
reference alone. Brooker v.

Why Homework Is Homework
There are many students who realize that it is important to get good grades. But those students
are also stressed, exhausted, and frustrated. How would you feel if you had to study for more
than three hours a day just to earn a good grade? If you re a student, you probably fall into the
category of those who do not have time to do things other than school. You may also feel as though
homeworkdoesn t actually do anything. Most students get so busy with activities outside of
school and just simply do not have time to do homework or study for a test for 5 hours. So ask
yourself, is all of this necessary? Or can all of this unnecessary stress be avoided?
Of course, nobody truly knows if homework is actually effective or not. It may be stressing
student out for no good reason. Many students said they often do homework they see as pointless
or mindless in order to keep their grades up. Homework should have a purpose and a benefit. It
should be designed to actually teach kids instead of stress them out. It would be one thing to have
as much homework that is assigned if students actually learned or benefited from it, but it doesn t
do anything besides worry them.
In addition, most kids do not have hardly any time to do anything other than school related things.

Pros And Cons Of Moving To Tennessee
Move to Tennessee?
There are many things that could benefit me when I move out of state. Different states have much
to offer for someone moving. Tennessee would be the best choice when it is time to move. Some
things that will be mentioned in this paper are why it would be a good choice to move to Tennessee.
Using sources and information found to help support the claims.
Some factors that might help me decide if I want to move to Tennessee is the cost of living there
is cheaper than Illinois, Tennessee has warmer weather, and people who live in Tennessee are
nicer and have better manners than people in Illinois. Our cost of living indices are based on a US
average of 100. An amount below 100 means Tennessee, Tennessee is cheaper than... Show more

It can help in many ways. Experiencing a new place can help on many levels. Some say it helps
lower stress and anxiety. Not having to deal with the people back home and or the drama. Since
going out on one s own is a necessary rite of passage for all young people at some point, they
might as well go big and move to another state where they are less likely to still be dependent on
their parents. But moving out of state still can be stressful. Having to learn a new address, new
names, figure out a way around the town or state, and remember where everything is located.
Some ways to relieve the stress is to Recognize the fact that it will be stressful, plan it out, consider
hiring a moving service, stay organized, dress comfortably, and keep the kids occupied.

Persuasive Speech On Recycling
The world is full of people using everyday products made from plastics or styrofoam, from simple
things like cups, forks and spoons to expensive electronics such as printers, phones, and TV s.
About 300 million tons of plastic is produced globally each year (Raising Awareness of Plastic
Waste) and more than 14 million tonnes of polystyrene(styrofoam) are produced every year around
the world (Now and forever: The Styrofoam dilemma). With these high amounts being produced
each year it is easy to see why our oceans are now filled with these materials which end up
damaging our earths ecosystem, marine life, and wild life. Out of the 300 million tons of plastic
produced only about 10 percent of that is recycled (Raising Awareness of Plastic Waste) and out
of the 14 million tons of styrofoam produced only 56 million pounds of styrofoam are recycled
(EPS (Styrofoam) Facts, Figures and Statistics) This means that the majority of plastics and
styrofoam end up in landfills or our oceans changing our world for the worst one non recycled item
at a time. After reviewing two different Ted Talks, one about recycling
plastic by Mike Biddle and
one about recycling styrofoam by Ashton Cofer it has become more apparent to me that recycling
plastics is extremely important and Mike Biddle has the solution. What is Ted Talks? Ted Talks is
a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or
less). TED was established in 1984 as a conference

Content Validity
Content validity is often seen as a prerequisite to criterion validity, because it is a good indicator of
whether the desired trait is measured. If elements of the test are irrelevant to the main construct,
then they are measuring something else completely, creating potential bias. In addition, criterion
validityderives quantitative correlations from test course. Content validity is qualitative in nature,
and asks whether a specific element enhances or detracts from a test or research program. How is
content validity is measured by using surveys and tests, each questions is given to a panel of

created by C. H. Lawshe subject matter expert raters (SMEs) is when a panel use the following
questions such as Is the skill or knowledge measured by this item essential , useful, but not essential
, or not necessary to the performance of the construct? (Lawshe, 1975). According to the author
Lawshe if the results are more than half this indicates that the item is essential and show specific

Rippavilla To begin, Rippavilla was stunning to say the least. The property has been taken care of
extremely well. I was impressed at how much of the house has been preserved, and how much
originality there is at this beautiful home. Major Nathaniel Chearis did an exceptional job on
creating this beautiful. As well as, J. Whitfield adding on and modernizing it. This houseis truly
historic and full of rich history. The tour involved showing mostly the Residence, as what Nathaniel
Chearis called it. Along with the great house, the tour guide talked about what Nathaniel and his
family lived in before the house. They lived in an apartment that was built right above the kitchen
along with a smoke house close to their living quarters.

Analysis Of The Film Amores Perros
Amores Perros is characterized by a depiction of contemporary urban life dominated by violence,
social decay and the corruption of both traditional and modern morality and political values. Yet,
according to some critics, the film suggests the possibility of human and social redemption. Discuss.
Amore Perros is a film about society where life is dominated by pain, violence, social decay and
corruption. In this scenario love is the only tool through which the characters can find redemption
and hope for a better future. In this essay, I will discuss how the social and human redemption is
represented in the film. I will focus predominantly on the character of El Chivo: a hit man who
left his family to change the world. In my opinion, only El Chivo is able to wake himself up and
do something to change his future and redeem himself. Valeria and Octavio on the other hand are
not able to learn a lesson and change their lives, in fact at the end of the film they regress instead of
move on. (moving on).
El Chivo achieves social redemption by giving up his life as a hit man. The moment when he loses
all his dogs because of Cofi is crucial in his process of changing. The loss makes him realise who
he is and what is the true meaning of life. After losing his dogs he kidnaps the person he was
supposed to kill and the one who paid him to carry out the hit. Then he ties them up and he leaves
them alone with a gun (Jose Arroyo, Sight and Sound, 2001). By doing this he leaves his past and

Social Criticism Of Geoffrey Chaucer
Ashley Cartagena
Ms. Morris
English 12 5th period
5 December 2017
Geoffrey Chaucer as a Social Critic Geoffrey Chaucer, also known as the father of English
literature, is one of the greatest writers in his time. He is still famous today for his publications
about fictional characters ranging from all sorts of social classes, including the most luxurious of
lifestyles, the pauperized, and everything in between. Being a frequent traveler, Chaucer was able
to observe groups of people and develop his own opinions and ideas based on these observations
subsequently creating these characters. From his daring opinions embedded in his work, Chaucer
easily became one of the most controversial writers. In his literary work, Geoffrey Chaucer conveys
his disdain for corruption in the Church, politicians, and societal standards. In The Canterbury Tales
Chaucer indirectly proclaims his views of the Church by giving his characters involved in the
Church corrupt personalities and intentions in working for the Church. His characters that work
for the Church or claim to serve by God commonly possess avaricious personalities, ultimately
interfering with what should be honest and holy work. The Friar, for example is meant to live a
life based off charitable donations in the name of religion with a minimalistic style of living.
However, he rather dedicates his life using the donations he receives for giving each of his young
women what he could afford her (Chaucer 216 217). Putting lust

Though communication technology is currently undergoing a massive revolution, these advances
and the accompanying benefits have not yet filtered down to those in developing nations with
antiquated and outdated technology. This project attempts to address this need by developing a
system that harnesses the power of the Internet, which is the most economical and yet most widely
available and accessible global network in existence.

Silver Essay Chemistry
I chose the element Silver (Ag) from the periodic table as my favorite because it s a beautiful
piece of metal. Its my favorite element because, it s commonly used for jewelry and looks very
cool on me when I wear a silver necklace. Also, because its color is just very appealing. The metal
was refined by cupellation, and the process was invented by the Chaldeans. It was created by
heating the molten metalin a shallow cup so it can oxidises the other metals mixed in the cup. such
as copper and lead. which leads silverto be unaffected. Silver was founded and invented around
the year of 3000 BC. As the years went on, the german mines became the main source of silver in
europe and this came to be around the year of 600 BC.

Silver can be useful in many ways. Deodorant has silver chloride, which prevents body odor and
keeps the skin dry and free from sweat. Batteries have a silver ingredient that is useful. It is oxide
which makes them last for long periods of time. Lastly Detergent has the component of silver ions
which are released into the water to help eradicate bacteria and odor. It also provides antibiotic and
antifungal effects.
They are some pros and some cons for the element silver. They are 3 cons to silver, one would be
if silver liquid would come in contact with the eyes, it will irritate the eye and you can possibly
lose eyesight. The 2nd con is, is skin irritation by repeated contact and rubbing of the element on
the skin. The 3rd con is, its very hard to mine silver because its deep down in the earth and its
dangerous.
There are also pros to the use of the element silver. Silver is used to make coins and jewelry. Silver
is commonly used in electronics, because electricity flows better through silver. Silver can also
be used as medicine. A Silver nitrite stick is used to control bleeding by (cauterizing) the skin. It s
like burning the skin, but not in a bad way. Silver nitrite sticks can be used to remove warts and
skin tags too. Silver is found in a cream called silver silvadene, this cream is used for people who

The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), was created to
minimize the disruptions for military members, however it create limitations and higher cost for
employers because limits employers ability to adjust to the absent, require employers to maintain

hazard of fulfilling the position in their absent or incurring in higher cost due to the fulfillment of
benefits while they are absent, however if the duty call is for more than 30 days the employee can

The Banking System And Global Economy Essay
The US Banking System US Banking System and Global Economy Functions and Roles of US
Financial Institutions Financial institutions are the intermediaries that connect savers with
borrowers, providing these parties with access to the financial markets (Cecchetti, 2015, p. 64).
In their role as financial intermediaries, the functions these institutions are responsible for help
the US economy operate more efficiently. They reduce both transaction and information costs
within the financial system by standardizing loan products and borrower screening processes.
These institutions also minimize risk for savers by pooling their resources and lending the
pooled funds to many borrowers. Doing so meets the needs of savers, who can access their funds
when they need them, and borrowers, who can utilize borrowed funds on the terms that best
meet their needs (Cecchetti, 2015, p. 66). It would be much more difficult, and expensive, to
match one saver with one borrower who agreed to the exact amount and term of a loan than it is
to pool resources and let a specialized institution manage the loans. For example, imagine how
difficult it would be to find one individual willing to loan you $20,000 for a period of five years at
a 3% annual interest rate so you could purchase a car. Finding a suitable match for your particular
needs would be incredibly difficult and expensive, but financial intermediaries are able to provide
this service to borrowers and savers every day at a low cost.

Black Harvest By Bob Connolly And Robin Anderson
The 1992 film Black Harvest was directed and produced by Bob Connolly and Robin Anderson.
Filmed in the highlands of Papua, New Guinea, it follows a half white, half African man Joe
Leahy attempting to manage a coffee plantation that he collectively owns with the local Ganiga
tribe. Leahy employs Ganiga tribesmen and women, giving them 40% of the earnings while he
receives 60%. During the film it is learned that coffee prices have plummeted, giving Leahy no
choice but to cut wages and face the tribes people s response.
The film portrays the tragedy within attempting to find cohesion in two completely opposing
lifestyles, as one is seemingly attempting to overpower the other. While Joe Leahy represents the
colonial businessman, his Ganiga partners, enthralled in their traditions and choosing to stay
devoted to their duties in local tribal warfare, remain rooted in a lifestyle much different than that
of Joe Leahy. Black Harvest evokes an understanding of the implications of colonialism that can be
most deeply seen through the montage of many short scenes, with few moments of long held
interview type shots. As the sound of the film is completely diegetic, everything that is heard is in
direct correlation with what is being filmed, this being broken only once at the end of the film,
where sobs can be heard from a woman aside from what is in direct camera view, symbolic of the
film s downtrodden conclusion.
The issue of Leahy s attempt to overpower the Ganiga tribe s

Narrative Voice In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold the concept of a community setting
strongly based upon traditional roots, and is capable to do so through a variety of characters all
with a displaced memory of a tragic event in the history of the small town. Each of these
characters displayed by Marquez is on a thin line of uprooting his or her destined religious system
of faith. In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Marquez highlights the narrator s voice containing a tone
of cultural influence and societal imbalance because of the novels non chronological unraveling of
events, it becomes necessary for an objective outsider to notice the downfall of society by two
conflicting problems. The primary form of narrator s characterization, the reader possesses the
capability to analyze the related roles of characters within the novel as centered around the
obligations of both faith and family. Furthermore, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, through the deployment
of magical realism, allows these characters to become less superficial by nature of communicating
a realistic perception of events in the midst of a mundane society. This can be argued to be much

Life is all about making decisions. Every day we are faced with situations that lead us to making
decisions. At times those decisions might be wrong, sometimes right. When facing a dilemma it s
easy to make a decision, but it s even more difficult to make a right and ethical decision. Any
person can make a decision, but they won t always make the right decision. Decision making gets
tougher when it comes to making the right and ethical decision, especially when it comes to the
business world because your decision will no longer affect you, but it would also affect others.
Therefore, you must always be aware of your decisions making. Due to unethical decisions, ... Show

It highlights the importance of auditors applying sensitive and ethical judgments in all their
engagements. Members have the responsibility to collaborate with each other to improve the art of
accounting, as well as to maintain the public s confidence. The auditor s responsibilities are
essential to an effective audit process because through planning, auditors should to communicate
with each other, be very organized and discuss what and how to do things in order to serve the
public. One of the most important parts in auditing is planning, for that reason responsibility is a
must.
Examples to Article I The accounting firm BDO agreed to pay $50 million for criminal wrongdoing.
Between 1997 and 2003, the firm had sold unlawful shelter products. About $6.5 billion was
made in fake tax losses. Denis Field CEO of the company was blamed for tax fraud as well as
other BDO partners whom pleaded guilty. The firm had recognized their responsibility for the
scheme and agreed to pay the $50 million. This case is against the art of accounting and the
responsibility as professionals. The firm wasn t ethical in decision making.

Conformity versus Individuality in A Wrinkle in Time and The Giver

individuality is good. Being your own person is good. Instead of being all the same. Jonas realizes

The Use Of Hip Hop Music In The 1990 s
In the 1990 s we saw many artists sampling the work of other artists in order to make their own
songs. Sampling is described as the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one song recording and
reusing it as an instrument or a sound recording in a different song or piece (Wikipedia, 2016).
Although sampling has been around for a long time, Hip Hop musicwas one of the most popular
music genres to embrace this method and create their own style from it. Advancements in
technology allowed for the use of sampling to be done with ease. Producers are able to pull a beat
from a song and use that beat or even loop it to create a new sound. This became a large part of
Hip hop music. While some may think of Kanye Westand his use of sampling, it

Netflix s Reconfiguration Of Flow
In 2007, Netflix, an online video rental service founded in the late 1990s, changed courses and
began to offer a video on demand streaming service that, though not the first of its kind,
profoundly altered the way in which viewers watch and categorize televisual texts in the Post
Network Era of streaming and individualization of television viewing. This influence warrants a
reconfiguration of Raymond Williams classic theory of flow as well as of Ethan Thompson s more
recent theory, which makes necessary advances by correctly accounting for a shift toward catering
to audience tastes, but fails to address the particularities of the streaming platform. This essay
argues that what I call streaming flow , still encourages continual viewing, but... Show more content

Netflix has engendered a generic recategorization of texts into previously established genres, as
well as into newly established generic categories meant to organize these diverse texts in new and
very specific adjective based genres, such as political dramas or spiritual documentaries, which
combine descriptive and generic words meant to capture viewers. This generic specificity also
accounts for the fact that texts are often cross listed across multiple of these traditional and
contemporary genres. Additionally, texts are categorized on each user s homepage according to
generic categories generated by the user s profile and viewing history, with categories like, you
might also like this and because you watched... . In accordance with Mittell s genre theory, which
states that genre is a cultural practice situated in larger cultural hierarchies and power relations and
accounts for specific attributes of the medium, Netflix s unique genre categories account for the
particular attributes of the medium, but also, significantly, of the new digital platform as well. In
making these arguments, I analyze the functions of the platform which create streaming flow , its
algorithm, format, and generic categorization, as well as texts such as Arrested Development (2003
) and Stranger Things (2016 ), that comprise streaming flow and which are generically categorized

Optical Fiber Lab Report
Introduction
An optical fiber (or optical fiber) is a flexible, transparent fiber made by drawing glass (silica) or
plastic to a breadth somewhat thicker than that of a human hair. Optical fibers are utilized
regularly as a way to transmit light between the two closures of the fiber and find wide utilization
in fiber optic communication, where they allow transmission over longer separations and at higher
bandwidths (information rates) than wire links. Fibers are utilized rather than metal wires in light
of the fact that signals go along them with lesser measures of loss; moreover, fibers are likewise
resistant to electromagnetic impedance, an issue which metal wires experience the ill effects of
excessively. Fibers are additionally utilized for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2)Immunity to electromagnetic interference
Light transmission through optical strands is unaffected by other electromagnetic radiation
adjacent. The optical fiber is electrically non conductive, so it doesn t go act as a receiving wire to

interferences, even electromagnetic pulses produced by atomic gadgets.
3)Low attenuation loss over long distance
Attenuation misfortune can be as low as 0.2 dB/km in optical fiber cables, permitting transmission
over long distances without the requirement for repeaters.
4)Electrical insulator
Optical filaments don t lead power, anticipating issues with ground circles and conduction of
lightning. Optical filaments can be hung on shafts close by high voltage force links.
5)Material cost and theft prevention
Traditional cable frameworks utilize a lot of copper. In a few places, this copper is an target for

Banning Books In Schools Essay
Thesis: Classic works of literature should not be amended or banned because the novels pertain to
pivotal moments in history and help shape literary works today.
Often, groups of people with similar interests will congregate with the intent of banning a book
or ridding it of certain material. Not only does this strip classic literature of its raw delicacies, but
it violates the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. In New York in 1949, classic
works such as Oliver Twist and The Merchant of Venice were thought to generate hatred toward to
Jews (Gould). While some may be offended by an author s point of view or ideals, removing
potentially offensive language from books not only violates the right to freedom of speech, but ...

Strongly opposing censorship, Jenkins claims, According to this perspective, children can only
respond to books by imitating what they read. If, for example, a book tells a story about a child
getting lost in a store and getting an ice cream cone when they are finally found, young readers
will respond by heading for a store so that they can get lost and have ice cream cones too.
Children really have much more complicated minds than that they aren t just passive vessels.
Books are really just one piece of their whole world (University of Illinois). Jenkins comments
on the impressionable youth and the impact that works of literature have on them to prove that
the youth is more mature and sensible than certain institutions believe them to be. By removing
questionable material from books, these institutions in which books are banned are removing all
trust and confidence in readers. Hiding classic literature from children, again, sets boundaries on
their knowledge and does not allow them to appreciate timeless works. Jenkins also says, The
act of banning a book is taking a public stance to intimidate potential readers. It s almost as if
they re saying, Read this, and you will meet with our disapproval. It s definitely more of a
symbolic act, in the same way that flag burning is a symbolic act (University of

Recommendations for Making Shiver by Karen Robards a Movie...
Shiver by Karen Robards is the book I picked for this quarter s SSR. I picked the book because, at
first glance, the cover was interesting. So, judging a book by it s cover, I picked it up. When
reading the brief summary on the inside cover I decided I wanted to read it. There wasn t much to
it, really. I ve never read anything by this author before so I had no idea what to expect.
The book was about Samantha Jones and her son Tyler, and about how they were pulled into the
most dangerous situation of their lives. Danny, or Marco to Sam, was the one who pulled them
into it. He is a member of the FBI, going undercover as a former member of the FBI, one who was

I would also take out the part of the book between Sam and Danny that wouldn t be very good for
children, so that more people can watch the movie. There s a lot more, but too many for right now.
Samantha Jones has long black hair and dark blue eyes, and pale skin. She s also very pretty, as
many male characters in the book have said about her. Sam is really stubborn, protective, and
mature. Not to mention snarky, she has been very rude to Danny because she believe he s a
dangerous criminal. Danny is more loose, he likes to be... not stuck up. He jokes a lot and calls
Sam Baby Doll all of the time. He has brown hair and tan skin, as he was described in the book, he
has a worked out body.
Tyler is just adorable, the way I picture him. Hair and eyes matching his mothers he is playful
and smart. He listens to his mother and knows what to do in case of an emergency, he is always
very happy and high spirited. Samantha would be played by Jennifer Connelly because her dark
hair colour is almost the same as I pictured Sam s. Though her eye colour is blue in the book and
Jennifer s is green, it could be fixed by coloured contacts. I didn t find many actresses that were
close to my version of Samantha. Danny, however, was a little easier to pic for.

American Red Cross Humanitarian Group Essay
There are many humanitarian groups out there, but what exactly is a humanitarian group? Well it
is a group of people that have an urge to help the community and the people in it. They do all
sorts of things like help the poor and the less fortunate. They also run different programs like if
you need counseling or help getting back on your feet after an addiction or disaster. But is that
really all there is to a humanitarian group?
One of the thousands of humanitarian groups and probably the most well known is the American
Red Cross. The American Red Cross does many things for our community and nation. One of the
things they do is prepare. This is when they might go to homes or go to different buildings to
install fire alarms. Or if there is going to be a flood they might go and help people sandbag their

The Reflection Of The Human Eye Work
How does the human eye work?
The cornea is clear and at the front of the eye. When light rays enter it, the cornea refracts it
through the pupil and then the iris. The iris controls how much light may pass through the pupil by
expanding or shrinking. Next, the light ray will enter the lens. This also refracts light by changing
its shape with the help of the ciliary muscles and the suspensory ligaments. The light will go
through a dense jelly like tissue named the vitreous humour and eventually focused at the back of
the eye onto the retina. The retina is a light sensitive tissue and covered with rods and cones. These
receptors will capture the light ray and transform it into electrical impulses. They get sent off
through the nerve fibres, then the optic nerve, and then finally the brain. The picture given by the
retina is upside down so our brain will next turn it the right way up.
Our bodies have the capability to endure large scars but, a slight scar on the cornea can lead up
to our vision becoming impaired. The retina will process the light rays, into light impulses that
need to be transferred to the brain to create an image, which are focused on to them by the cornea.
So, any deep injures experienced by the cornea can lead to corneal scarring which would affect our
vision.
Focusing on near and distant objects
People that have trouble focusing in near or a distant object is due the light rays entering their eyes
are unable to focus on the retina. This is a very common

Between 1965 and 1969, the age of eligibility went down gradually from 70 to 65. In the 1970s, the
government started to index the pension payments to the consumer price index, and to provide
supplemental benefits such as the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance, and the
Allowance for the Survivor to low income pensioners.
In the late 1980s, after a prolonged period of inflation and economic stagnation, the government
began to see the pension system as costly and started to levy a special tax called recovery tax on
OAS pensions to reduce and ultimately eliminate the OAS pension for people whose annual
income exceeded a certain level.
Today, the benefits of the program include:
1) The OAS pension
2) The Guaranteed Income Supplement
3) The Allowance
4) The Allowance for Survivor.
The program is funded entirely by the general revenues of the Government of Canada, and
provides a basic level of support to those with no other sources of retirement income. In 2014, the
total expenditure of the program was 2.3% of GDP, with 35 billion paid in OAS pension and 10

The film doesn t put all the blame of obesity on fast food companies. People do have free choice,
but the point he makes is that these companies go out of their way to make the food pretty much
addictive through the use of sugar, fat, and caffeine and that they go out of their way to hide
how unhealthy this stuff really is. On the other hand, there are some things in Spurlock s
documentary which were a little outrageous. The blame should not only be placed on fast food. I
do strongly believe that we all have the will power to walk in McDonalds and order a salad or
simply not go in and make McDonalds to make it a much wealthier company. The director used
great methods on how to get the message across and great graphics to keep the audience
entertained. I do believe is Spurlock would have eaten other food that contained over 2500
calories a day, he would have still faced health problems. Finally, he shows us pictures of him
after he went back to his good eating habits which imply how happy he is to be back in shape. I
think he is trying to send out the message that it s not too late for the viewer to change their eating

How the Earl Warren Court Liberalized America Essay
The Warren Court refers to the Supreme Court of the United States between 1953 and 1969,
when Earl Warren served as Chief Justice. Warren led a liberal majority that used judicial power
in dramatic fashion, to the consternation of conservative opponents. The Warren Court expanded
civil rights, civil liberties, judicial power, and the federal power in dramatic ways. One way the
Warren Court liberalized America, is through the court cases of Gideon v. Wainwright (1963),
Escobedo v. Illinois (1964), and Miranda v. Arizona (1966), where these court cases helped define
Due Process and the rights of defendants. Another way the Warren Court liberalized America, is

constitutional rights at the school house gates. In doing so the court protected what has come to

prayers in schools were considered unconstitutional, leading to a ban of all prayers led by
teachers in school, even if the prayer was considered voluntary, stating, in a way, that there was
some sort of separation of church and state which is not true. Lastly, New York Times v. Sullivan

Persuasive Speech On Cloning
What do you have to say about the topic of cloning? I am totally against the the topic of all
cloning and you should be as well. The new bill that has just come up has to do with it and you
need to understand why it is a bad thing to allow. It would allow the use of taxpayers money to
fund both therapeutic and reproductive cloningresearch of all animals and humans. If you don t
understand the difference between the two types of cloning, let me enlighten you. Therapeutic
cloning is when you create copies of cells but don t actually do any cloning of another person or
animal. Reproductive cloning on the other hand is the total opposite. It is when you create a newly
created embryo genetically identical to a donor and then place it into a female (animal or human) for
it to fully develop and be born. Taxpaying citizens would at least want their money that they
worked so hard for to be put to some good use. Some of those useful issues would include:
education through high school, financial aid for college students, immigration and law
enforcement programs and natural resources of the nation. These are very critical issues and
topics that are going on in our daily lives and as a result they only get about 8% of the income
taxes. Do you really want to take more money away from these issues for cloning?
Cloning destroys uniqueness. In the article, Arguments For and Against Creating Human
Clones, it states, Human cloning would diminish the sense of uniqueness of an individual. If
there is another person like you it would feel kind of weird knowing that when you aren t around
anymore they are sort of taking your spot in the world. The rebuttal says that this can only be
true if we let it be. Well guess what, people are already considering replacing loved ones. For
example, on the same article it talks about when a parent loses their child they are able to seek
redress or peace for their loss. This in fact happens to be the perfect example of diminishing the
sense of uniqueness in a person. That relationship they once had with their child will try to be
recreated with someone who isn t actually the same child they loss. It s basically, and very simply,
like disrespecting or betraying that relationship they had

/thecoldwar are both primary sources illustrating anti war protests, showing the outrage that
America had towards the war. By 1968, the whole country had felt the war s impact. When the war
finally ceased and the troops returned home, the protests, the actions by the government and the war
itself, had taken a toll on the country. America s opinions were sharply turned against the war. The
veterans who fought bravely in the war, returned to a nation that was bitter towards anything related
to the war. Today, a Vietnam War memorial has been erected in Washington, to honor those who
sacrificed their life for their country. As shown in ((n.d.). Retrieved from http:/

Alternative Sign Language Essay
Sign Language In Schools Alternative Sign Language (ALS) is one language that seems to be
forgotten about in our school systems. More schools (from elementary to secondary) have
focused more on foreign languages like French and Spanish, while ALS is equally, if not more,
important to have in our curriculum. In 2015, studies had shown 360 million people worldwide
have seriously disabling hearing loss. Out of 6,500 spoken languages ASL is the sixth most
used language so why is it not being taught? The nation believes it is crucial for people to learn
languages other than English in order to progress as a society, so shouldn t ALS should be on the
list of languages to learn? As much as it is being used sooner or later we all are bound to... Show

My personal experience as someone who has met a few deaf people, dealt with a deaf child and
have taught my own daughter who is not deaf sign language this language is more important
than so many of us realize. The benefits it has for children who have learned ASL at a young
age is amazing. I have witnessed that children who have not learned ASL actually took longer to
learn the basics, colors, shapes, numbers, alphabet and recognizing the letters out of order. In our
society, children normally do not learn any of the basics and truly grasp onto them until they are
about four years old. My daughter is two and can tell you all of the basics along with many other
things including signing. I started signing to her when she was born and she began signing on
her own at ten months old. She is advanced in many areas and knows more then kids twice her
age at the daycare she is in. Sing language is truly a fascinating language. Those who can hear
only pay attention to the words that are being spoken and not a persons body language this is
also. People tend to yell across the room or waive a hand in front of someone s face when they
want their attention. In the deaf community people would be tapping someone on the shoulder or
using eye contact. Those who can not hear pay attention to body movement, facial expressions as
well as the vocabulary and grammar used. This language is very visual and the

Southern Louisiana Climate
(1). In case you don t live here and ain t aware, southern Louisiana has a warm climate. It s mid
November as I write this, and in the 70s today. At night it drops into the 40s and 50s, occasionally
into the 30s.
(2). Where I live on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, across from New Orleans, we had our
first frost on November 20, and tonight it s a little cool to be outside without a jacket. Throughout
October and the first part of November, however, I could sit on my deck most nights in a T shirt
and listen to the rattle of falling leaves on the tin roof. Its almost an imitation autum.
(3). But faux fall or not, even in a Louisiana October I found my energy levels for writing starting
to surge. It has always been this way for me. I write better when it s starting to grow cold; and
better yet in the dead of winter when the trees stand quite and barren and waiting for spring.
(4). Something about winter always expires me, and I believe it has to do with the edge of ... Show

For me, I also find that rain any rain but especially if it s cold makes for good writing weather. If
their s a little wind to spank the trees into motion that s even better. And if it s storming, I often
turn off my computer and take a notepad and pen and venture onto the deck where the air can
bite me. I like to huddle down in a chair, close enough to the world so that I catch a faint mist
from the raindrops as they explode against the corner of the roof. The writing comes easy then, or
easier at least.
(6). Do you have writing weather? I bet you do. Maybe it s in the spring when a young man s (or
woman s) fancy turns to literature. Or maybe you write best in the wet, panting heat of
midsummer, with a cold drink to blot the sweat on your forehead and a ceiling fan whispering
lazily above you.
(7). Stop complaining about the weather. Let it help you right instead. Find your weather and I bet
you ll find your muse, one of them at least. I know that I m listening for a cold wind

BUSINESS ETHICS ASSIGNMENT 1
STUDENT NAME: THUY LINH NGUYEN

I. DO MANUFACTURES OF PRODUCTS FOR CHILDRENS HAVE SPECIAL OBLIGATIONS
TO CONSUMERS AND SOCIETY? IF SO, WHAT ARE THESE RESPONSIBILITIES?
Because of the company s product and designs primary for children, it must be sensitive to social
concern about children s right:
By assuring parents that their children s privacy will be respected, Mattel demonstrated that it takes
its responsibility of marketing to children seriously. In 2007, Mattel conduct entitled Global
Manufacturing principles. In this principle, Mattel s business partners must ensure high standard
for product safety and quality, adhering to practices that meet Mattel s safety and quality standards,

It s clearly that using lead paint is bad but let those toys get to the customer isn t it worst? If I own
a car toy factory and I allow my neighbor to produce my car and my neighbor use toxic paint to
paint them then we are both in the wrong. So both Mattel and the Chinese contractor are equally to
blame.
Mattel also have problems with their design, the magnet fall out too easy.
As they are losing their reputation and subcontractors, Mattel should really do something to avoid
these issues. In my opinion, firstly, Mattel should improve its design and carefully exam the toy
before launch them out. Secondly, they should also improve their supervisor over the products and
make sure all of them pass the high standards request. Thirdly, Mattel should investigate contractors
and audit the subcontractor and if necessary, provide them the information about their product high
standard and safety.
IV. SHOULD MATTEL RECEIVE CONTROL OF MGA S BRAZT DOLLS? IF SO, WHAT
ACTIONS SHOULD MATTEL TAKE REGARDING BRAZT?
Brazt is really the first doll to successfully compete against the massively successful Barbie
franchise in ages. The Brazt ranges of doll have affected the sale of Mattel s leading product:
Barbie and decreased by %6
The battle began when Mattel had an investigation and found out that: Carter Bryant, the designer
of the Brazt range, who was then working for MGA, had conceived the ideas of Brazt while he
was at Mattel. Matte then suited MGA to gain

The Triangular Theory Of Love
F. Scott Fitzgerald stated, There are all kinds of love in this world but never the same love twice.
Although this is true, and there are as many types of love as people who experience them, there
are key elements needed in creating the true love each of us strives to possess. Psychologist Robert
J. Sternberg explains these vital components in his Triangular Theory of Love. According to his
theory, love is comprised of intimacy, commitment, and passion. Different types of love are the
result of the various combinations of these elements. His metaphorical theory helps to define and
explain the theme of various types of love presented in Thomas Hardy s Far From the Madding
Crowd, Alexander Dumas The Count of Monte Cristo, and Edith Wharton s The Age of Innocence.
In Thomas Hardy s Far From the Madding Crowd, he portrays three types of love that go along
with Sternberg s theory: infatuation, fatuous love, and consummate love. Sergeant Troy, one of the
three suitors of the novel, displayed infatuation for Bathsheba his feelings for her only involving
the passionate angle on the love triangle. This imitation of love is characterized by physical
attraction and sexual arousal. Upon their first encounter, Troy was intoxicated by Bathsheba s
beauty and this would become the primary motivation for him marrying her. He comments, I ve
seen a good many women in my time, but I ve never seen a woman so beautiful as you (pg. 144).
Bathsheba, described as knowing nothing when it

The Importance Of Tenure In Education
Tenures refers to an approach which gives educators and teachers a lasting contract, viably
guaranteeing them an assurance of work ... forever. Teachers that have tenure can t be fired from
their duty unless for worthwhile motivation, for example, serious wrongdoing or inadequacy, and
still, at the end of the day ending the tenurecan be to a great degree troublesome.
Tenure system picked up in the mid 20th century as a method for shielding teachers from being
terminated for the wrong reasons. In those days, political gathering in office or a racial or
individual inclination could get consummately great instructors sacked; tenure was made to
guarantee that educators didn t experience the ill effects of the whimsical activities of
administrators.
Tenure is conceivably oppressive towards the poorest educated pupils in our community as tenured
educators with long service status (and in this manner the most experience) are probably going to
work in the least demanding schools, leaving schools in poor and denied territories to more
youthful, less experienced instructors.
100 years back before modern edge legislation gave rise to equal rights and employment protection
tenure had its place in the teaching system. It shielded helpless instructors from the political
impulses of their administrators and frame the activity of nepotism. Nowadays enactment gives
sensible assurances and tenure is never again required undoubtedly teaching is one of the main
callings to give this

The Wise Choice Process
1.What s my present situation? (Describe the problem objectively and completely.)
My present situation is being married, full time worker, full time student. right now I feel as
though I don t have a complete grasp on what to do to better my life. College is my main priority,
because I know I need a good education in order to accomplish the future career I want, but It is

just need to find a way to balance school, work and marriage, as well as maintain my stress.

rest of my life will be perfect. Ideally, I want to control all aspects of my life.

How Does Shakespeare Use Ethos In Julius Caesar
Everyone argues at one point, but the thing we don t realize is that we are using techniques
created hundreds of years ago. The non fiction play The Tragedy Julius Caesar was written by
William Shakespeare, it was initially a play but later turned into a book. In the play, a group of
conspirators create a plan to assassinate the soon to be ruler Julius Caesar. After they murder Julius
Caesar, Brutus and Cassius put together a funeral that the people of Rome attended. At the funeral
two good friends of Caesar, by the names of Brutus and Antony, spoke to the crowd about what will
happen to Rome next. They both use Aristotle s persuasive techniques of ethos, pathos, and logos in
their speeches. Ethos is the persuasion through ethics, pathos is... Show more content on

Pathos is an appeal that twists people emotions. The first example of pathos is during Caeser s
funeral, Antony states When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept: Ambition should be
made of sterner stuff (cite). This quote exemplifies pathos because the term cried symbolizes
negative emotion. Hearing this brings out saddened feelings of the people in the audience
because their new leader was murdered. In this quote the underlying message Antony is trying
to convey is that Caesar is weak because the poor are crying; however, Caesar is weeping. The
words Antony uses makes the crowd lean towards Antony because he is playing with their
emotions. There are many examples of pathos in Antony s speech, but one he concludes with is
Bear with me; My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, And I must pause till it come back to
me (cite). This quote is an example of pathos because it is changing the way the people think of
Antony. This draws the people towards Antony s side because he is convincing the people that he
will always be by Caesar s side and will forever love him, and the people also loved him. Overall,
through the two quotes, one can see Antony appealing to the audience s emotions, to manipulate the
audience to side with him politely. Antony also uses the mode of persuasion Logos, which is the
appeal to convince an audience through logic. During Antony s speech at the beloved

To understand which format is more effective, we need to study the different formats and see what are the strengths and weaknesses found in the two different formats. This paper will examine research done by multiple researchers and use their research to help find the format that best helps students to study and retain material learned from their textbook Defining E textbooks and Traditional Textbooks E textbooks are often defined as texts that are able to be accessed on electronic devices. Most research has defined them as texts that are digital and accessed via electronic screens (Rockinson Szapkiw, Courdoff, Carter, Bennett, 2012), in which there two formats that exist. The first format is the page fidelity e textbook and second is the reflowable digital e textbook. • 3. Lawrence V. Hodges Case Study The Fourteenth Amendment, which was approved amid the Reconstruction period to ensure the privileges of minorities, is the law within the Lawrence v. Texas and Obergefell v. Hodges case. In a Houston, Texas apartment five years back, nearby police were dispatched to answer reports of gunfire. They legally entered the apartment of petitioner John Lawrence, who was engaging in sex with another man. The two were arrested, convicted and fined $200. Texas statue making it illegal for two individuals of the same sex to partake in sexual relationships with one another violated their Fourteenth Amendment rights. The court justified that Lawrence and Garner were allowed to exercise their liberty by engaging in private relations under the Due Process Clause. The advancement of the Fourteenth Amendment, as indicated by Eric Foner in Our Living Constitution , speaks on how to concede a protected right to security and to keep the administration from forcing on that privilege is the foundation to this decision. Cage Document Analysis For a will to incorporate a document by reference, the will must so clearly identify the document as to preclude all probability of mistake as to the [document] referred to . Allday v. Cage. The courts do not favor ambiguity when a document is referenced in a will because the meaning of the will may be altered. Brooker v. Brooker. A will describes a document with sufficient clarity if the description of the document contains the correct date and name(s) in the document. In Allday v. Cage, the court held that a [document] between [Mrs. M. J. Crow] and J. H. Cage, John Cage, Day Cage, Jessie White and F. S. White... September 14th, 1910 described in the will by its date and names included was incorporated into the will. In contrast, the court held that a document described simply as deed did not sufficiently describe the document for incorporation into a will. Brooker v. Brooker. If a will references a document and identifies the individual possessing it, the document will be incorporated into the will. For example, if a last will and testament is handwritten onto the back of a postcard and includes a note that says handle pursuant to the incomplete will Doris has , the incomplete will may be found to be a document incorporated by reference into the will written on the postcard. • 5. Why Homework Is Homework There are many students who realize that it is important to get good grades. But those students are also stressed, exhausted, and frustrated. How would you feel if you had to study for more than three hours a day just to earn a good grade? If you re a student, you probably fall into the category of those who do not have time to do things other than school. You may also feel as though homeworkdoesn t actually do anything. Most students get so busy with activities outside of school and just simply do not have time to do homework or study for a test for 5 hours. So ask yourself, is all of this necessary? Or can all of this unnecessary stress be avoided? Of course, nobody truly knows if homework is actually effective or not. It may be stressing student out for no good reason. Many students said they often do homework they see as pointless or mindless in order to keep their grades up. Homework should have a purpose and a benefit. It should be designed to actually teach kids instead of stress them out. It would be one thing to have as much homework that is assigned if students actually learned or benefited from it, but it doesn t do anything besides worry them. In addition, most kids do not have hardly any time to do anything other than school related things. All because society tells them that they should keep up their ... • 7. Persuasive Speech On Recycling The world is full of people using everyday products made from plastics or styrofoam, from simple things like cups, forks and spoons to expensive electronics such as printers, phones, and TV s. About 300 million tons of plastic is produced globally each year (Raising Awareness of Plastic Waste) and more than 14 million tonnes of polystyrene(styrofoam) are produced every year around the world (Now and forever: The Styrofoam dilemma). With these high amounts being produced each year it is easy to see why our oceans are now filled with these materials which end up damaging our earths ecosystem, marine life, and wild life. Out of the 300 million tons of plastic produced only about 10 percent of that is recycled (Raising Awareness of Plastic Waste) and out of the 14 million tons of styrofoam produced only 56 million pounds of styrofoam are recycled (EPS (Styrofoam) Facts, Figures and Statistics) This means that the majority of plastics and styrofoam end up in landfills or our oceans changing our world for the worst one non recycled item at a time. After reviewing two different Ted Talks, one about recycling plastic by Mike Biddle and one about recycling styrofoam by Ashton Cofer it has become more apparent to me that recycling plastics is extremely important and Mike Biddle has the solution. What is Ted Talks? Ted Talks is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED was established in 1984 as a conference ... • 10. Analysis Of The Film Amores Perros Amores Perros is characterized by a depiction of contemporary urban life dominated by violence, social decay and the corruption of both traditional and modern morality and political values. Yet, according to some critics, the film suggests the possibility of human and social redemption. Discuss. Amore Perros is a film about society where life is dominated by pain, violence, social decay and corruption. In this scenario love is the only tool through which the characters can find redemption and hope for a better future. In this essay, I will discuss how the social and human redemption is represented in the film. I will focus predominantly on the character of El Chivo: a hit man who left his family to change the world. In my opinion, only El Chivo is able to wake himself up and do something to change his future and redeem himself. Valeria and Octavio on the other hand are not able to learn a lesson and change their lives, in fact at the end of the film they regress instead of move on. (moving on). El Chivo achieves social redemption by giving up his life as a hit man. The moment when he loses all his dogs because of Cofi is crucial in his process of changing. The loss makes him realise who he is and what is the true meaning of life. After losing his dogs he kidnaps the person he was supposed to kill and the one who paid him to carry out the hit. Then he ties them up and he leaves them alone with a gun (Jose Arroyo, Sight and Sound, 2001). By doing this he leaves his past and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Social Criticism Of Geoffrey Chaucer Ashley Cartagena Ms. Morris English 12 5th period 5 December 2017 Geoffrey Chaucer as a Social Critic Geoffrey Chaucer, also known as the father of English literature, is one of the greatest writers in his time. He is still famous today for his publications about fictional characters ranging from all sorts of social classes, including the most luxurious of lifestyles, the pauperized, and everything in between. Being a frequent traveler, Chaucer was able to observe groups of people and develop his own opinions and ideas based on these observations subsequently creating these characters. From his daring opinions embedded in his work, Chaucer easily became one of the most controversial writers. In his literary work, Geoffrey Chaucer conveys his disdain for corruption in the Church, politicians, and societal standards. In The Canterbury Tales Chaucer indirectly proclaims his views of the Church by giving his characters involved in the Church corrupt personalities and intentions in working for the Church. His characters that work for the Church or claim to serve by God commonly possess avaricious personalities, ultimately interfering with what should be honest and holy work. The Friar, for example is meant to live a life based off charitable donations in the name of religion with a minimalistic style of living. However, he rather dedicates his life using the donations he receives for giving each of his young women what he could afford her (Chaucer 216 217). Putting lust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Banking System And Global Economy Essay The US Banking System US Banking System and Global Economy Functions and Roles of US Financial Institutions Financial institutions are the intermediaries that connect savers with borrowers, providing these parties with access to the financial markets (Cecchetti, 2015, p. 64). In their role as financial intermediaries, the functions these institutions are responsible for help the US economy operate more efficiently. They reduce both transaction and information costs within the financial system by standardizing loan products and borrower screening processes. These institutions also minimize risk for savers by pooling their resources and lending the pooled funds to many borrowers. Doing so meets the needs of savers, who can access their funds when they need them, and borrowers, who can utilize borrowed funds on the terms that best meet their needs (Cecchetti, 2015, p. 66). It would be much more difficult, and expensive, to match one saver with one borrower who agreed to the exact amount and term of a loan than it is to pool resources and let a specialized institution manage the loans. For example, imagine how difficult it would be to find one individual willing to loan you $20,000 for a period of five years at a 3% annual interest rate so you could purchase a car. Finding a suitable match for your particular needs would be incredibly difficult and expensive, but financial intermediaries are able to provide this service to borrowers and savers every day at a low cost. ... Filmed in the highlands of Papua, New Guinea, it follows a half white, half African man Joe Leahy attempting to manage a coffee plantation that he collectively owns with the local Ganiga tribe. Leahy employs Ganiga tribesmen and women, giving them 40% of the earnings while he receives 60%. During the film it is learned that coffee prices have plummeted, giving Leahy no choice but to cut wages and face the tribes people s response. The film portrays the tragedy within attempting to find cohesion in two completely opposing lifestyles, as one is seemingly attempting to overpower the other. While Joe Leahy represents the colonial businessman, his Ganiga partners, enthralled in their traditions and choosing to stay devoted to their duties in local tribal warfare, remain rooted in a lifestyle much different than that of Joe Leahy. Black Harvest evokes an understanding of the implications of colonialism that can be most deeply seen through the montage of many short scenes, with few moments of long held interview type shots. As the sound of the film is completely diegetic, everything that is heard is in direct correlation with what is being filmed, this being broken only once at the end of the film, where sobs can be heard from a woman aside from what is in direct camera view, symbolic of the film s downtrodden conclusion. If, for example, a book tells a story about a child getting lost in a store and getting an ice cream cone when they are finally found, young readers will respond by heading for a store so that they can get lost and have ice cream cones too. Children really have much more complicated minds than that they aren t just passive vessels. Books are really just one piece of their whole world (University of Illinois). By removing questionable material from books, these institutions in which books are banned are removing all trust and confidence in readers. Hiding classic literature from children, again, sets boundaries on their knowledge and does not allow them to appreciate timeless works. • 31. The Reflection Of The Human Eye Work How does the human eye work? The cornea is clear and at the front of the eye. When light rays enter it, the cornea refracts it through the pupil and then the iris. The iris controls how much light may pass through the pupil by expanding or shrinking. Next, the light ray will enter the lens. This also refracts light by changing its shape with the help of the ciliary muscles and the suspensory ligaments. The light will go through a dense jelly like tissue named the vitreous humour and eventually focused at the back of the eye onto the retina. The retina is a light sensitive tissue and covered with rods and cones. These receptors will capture the light ray and transform it into electrical impulses. They get sent off through the nerve fibres, then the optic nerve, and then finally the brain. The picture given by the retina is upside down so our brain will next turn it the right way up. Our bodies have the capability to endure large scars but, a slight scar on the cornea can lead up to our vision becoming impaired. The retina will process the light rays, into light impulses that need to be transferred to the brain to create an image, which are focused on to them by the cornea. So, any deep injures experienced by the cornea can lead to corneal scarring which would affect our vision. It would allow the use of taxpayers money to fund both therapeutic and reproductive cloningresearch of all animals and humans. If you don t understand the difference between the two types of cloning, let me enlighten you. Therapeutic cloning is when you create copies of cells but don t actually do any cloning of another person or animal. Reproductive cloning on the other hand is the total opposite. It is when you create a newly created embryo genetically identical to a donor and then place it into a female (animal or human) for it to fully develop and be born. Taxpaying citizens would at least want their money that they worked so hard for to be put to some good use. Some of those useful issues would include: education through high school, financial aid for college students, immigration and law enforcement programs and natural resources of the nation. These are very critical issues and topics that are going on in our daily lives and as a result they only get about 8% of the income taxes. Do you really want to take more money away from these issues for cloning? Cloning destroys uniqueness. In the article, Arguments For and Against Creating Human Clones, it states, Human cloning would diminish the sense of uniqueness of an individual. If there is another person like you it would feel kind of weird knowing that when you aren t around anymore they are sort of taking your spot in the world. The rebuttal says that this can only be true if we let it be. Well guess what, people are already considering replacing loved ones. For example, on the same article it talks about when a parent loses their child they are able to seek redress or peace for their loss. This in fact happens to be the perfect example of diminishing the sense of uniqueness in a person. That relationship they once had with their child will try to be recreated with someone who isn t actually the same child they loss. It s basically, and very simply, like disrespecting or betraying that relationship they had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Defence systems were heavily funded as deterrence to actual war, the belief being a risk of mutual annihilation would be too great to be the side to make the first move. However, the Cold Warcaused a large variety of conflict and civil unrest around the world, such as the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The War split the world into supporting either the United States, or the USSR (Soviet Union). Both superpowers were associated with two very different political systems; Capitalism and Communism. In 2015, studies had shown 360 million people worldwide have seriously disabling hearing loss. Out of 6,500 spoken languages ASL is the sixth most used language so why is it not being taught? • 47. The Triangular Theory Of Love F. Scott Fitzgerald stated, There are all kinds of love in this world but never the same love twice. Although this is true, and there are as many types of love as people who experience them, there are key elements needed in creating the true love each of us strives to possess. Psychologist Robert J. Sternberg explains these vital components in his Triangular Theory of Love. According to his theory, love is comprised of intimacy, commitment, and passion. Different types of love are the result of the various combinations of these elements. His metaphorical theory helps to define and explain the theme of various types of love presented in Thomas Hardy s Far From the Madding Crowd, Alexander Dumas The Count of Monte Cristo, and Edith Wharton s The Age of Innocence. In Thomas Hardy s Far From the Madding Crowd, he portrays three types of love that go along with Sternberg s theory: infatuation, fatuous love, and consummate love. Sergeant Troy, one of the three suitors of the novel, displayed infatuation for Bathsheba his feelings for her only involving the passionate angle on the love triangle. This imitation of love is characterized by physical attraction and sexual arousal. Upon their first encounter, Troy was intoxicated by Bathsheba s beauty and this would become the primary motivation for him marrying her. He comments, I ve seen a good many women in my time, but I ve never seen a woman so beautiful as you (pg. 144). Bathsheba, described as knowing nothing when it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teachers that have tenure can t be fired from their duty unless for worthwhile motivation, for example, serious wrongdoing or inadequacy, and still, at the end of the day ending the tenurecan be to a great degree troublesome. Tenure system picked up in the mid 20th century as a method for shielding teachers from being terminated for the wrong reasons. In those days, political gathering in office or a racial or individual inclination could get consummately great instructors sacked; tenure was made to guarantee that educators didn t experience the ill effects of the whimsical activities of administrators. Tenure is conceivably oppressive towards the poorest educated pupils in our community as tenured educators with long service status (and in this manner the most experience) are probably going to work in the least demanding schools, leaving schools in poor and denied territories to more youthful, less experienced instructors. 100 years back before modern edge legislation gave rise to equal rights and employment protection tenure had its place in the teaching system. The non fiction play The Tragedy Julius Caesar was written by William Shakespeare, it was initially a play but later turned into a book. In the play, a group of conspirators create a plan to assassinate the soon to be ruler Julius Caesar. After they murder Julius Caesar, Brutus and Cassius put together a funeral that the people of Rome attended. Pathos is an appeal that twists people emotions. The first example of pathos is during Caeser s funeral, Antony states When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept: Ambition should be made of sterner stuff (cite). This quote exemplifies pathos because the term cried symbolizes negative emotion. Hearing this brings out saddened feelings of the people in the audience because their new leader was murdered. In this quote the underlying message Antony is trying to convey is that Caesar is weak because the poor are crying; however, Caesar is weeping. The words Antony uses makes the crowd lean towards Antony because he is playing with their emotions. There are many examples of pathos in Antony s speech, but one he concludes with is Bear with me; My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, And I must pause till it come back to me (cite). This quote is an example of pathos because it is changing the way the people think of Antony. This draws the people towards Antony s side because he is convincing the people that he will always be by Caesar s side and will forever love him, and the people also loved him. Overall, through the two quotes, one can see Antony appealing to the audience s emotions, to manipulate the audience to side with him politely. Antony also uses the mode of persuasion Logos, which is the appeal to convince an audience through logic. During Antony s speech at the beloved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
