2) In 1800 B.C., King Hammurabi of Babylon conquered Akkad and Sumer, establishing a new Babylonian empire. He reformed laws by combining the best codes from each city-state into a single unified code for all to follow.
3) Hammurabi's reign brought prosperity as Babylon became an important trade center, exchanging goods with places as far as India and China. He ruled for 40 years, establishing a period of Babylonian power in Mesopotamia.
