The Energy and Environment Working Group of the Business Council of Mongolia held a meeting on May 26th with 17 members in attendance. The theme of the meeting was "Energy Efficiency Initiatives". Michael Timm from GIZ delivered a presentation on an energy efficiency project implemented by GIZ in Mongolia and discussed the status and outlook. He noted that the first trained energy efficiency managers and auditors would be available in 2017 and 2018. Arnaud Heckmann from the Asian Development Bank also presented on the renewable energy and energy efficiency components of an affordable housing and urban renewal project in Ulaanbaatar. He discussed the Urban Redevelopment Unit concept and subsidy plan. There was a facilitated discussion

Michael Timm delivered a comprehensive presentation on GIZ at large and the project’s
involvement in the promulgation of the Energy Conservation Law and the energy efficiency
renovation of select public buildings across Mongolia. He pointed out that, the first trained
energy efficiency managers will be available for service in 2017 and the energy efficiency
auditors will be available for service in 2018.
Representing another active Urban development donor ADB, Arnaud Heckmann’s shared
his project’s concept for Ulaanbaatar ger area re-development. Urban Redevelopment Unit
(URU) concept and the Funds arrangement-subsidies plan were highly interesting to the
attendees in the meeting.
