African Wildlife Foundation

2. AWF is the largest international conservation organization
focused solely on the continent of Africa.

3. We work with people to ensure Africa's wildlife
and wild lands endure forever.

4. AWF was founded in 1961, at the height of
the African Independence movement.

5. AWF’s first project was to help found a college on the slopes of
Mount Kilimanjaro for Africans to study Wildlife Management.

6. Over five decades, AWF has implemented innovative
projects linking wildlife to people.

7. Africa is now modernizing rapidly through increased investment,
as well as economic and human population growth.

8. Which prompts the question: Will there be space for wildlife in Africa’s future?

9. The continent of Africa is huge. Three times the size
of the United States.

10. Using science, AWF has identified 30 large landscapes where
Africa's wildlife can be conserved well into the future.

11. These are large, open spaces where viable wildlife
populations can breed and live naturally.

12. AWF invests in four principle ways.

13. First, we consider the available LAND & HABITAT.

14. And invest in strengthening parks and reserves.

15. And secure wildlife corridors.

16. We ensure our strategies are grounded by CONSERVATION SCIENCE.

17. With a focus on endangered species like Elephants…

20. For example, AWF recently hosted an emergency Rhino Summit
inclusive of governments and private landowners throughout Africa.

21. We establish CONSERVATION ENTERPRISES that are owned
by the local people who live alongside wildlife.

22. Enterprises like, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge in Rwanda.

23. And Ngoma Lodge in Botswana.

24. We help BUILD CAPACITY by investing in people and their education.

25. Including building facilities like the Lupani School in Zambia.

26. And by fostering tomorrow’s African conservationists through
the Charlotte Fellows scholarship program.

27. We also work on policy and climate change.

28. All AWF projects are managed from our
Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
