STACY BREWERStacy BrewerInstructional Designer and e-Learning Professional
About MeMy name is Stacy Brewer, nice to meet you! I am coming into a very exciting time in my life as I am wrapping up my Master's Degree (Instructional Design and a certificate in e-Learning) studies at George Mason University. With only one semester left, I find that my experiences and my education have married beautifully and I feel like a well-rounded individual and professional. My diverse design and marketing background along with a solid understanding of the ISD process and instructional theories, have afforded me a unique angle on ISD. The Master's studies experience has been very unique in that the work environment is very realistic and real-world. Every classroom was an extension of our work place, or our hobbies, or anything at all that could be applied to study. As a result, I am eager and excited to make the transition outside my classroom.
Goals and AspirationsOne of the most important aspirations, and soon to be achievement was to earn my Master’s degree.Buying a home is one of my top priorities right now, it’s a work in progress, but it’s a dream that will hopefully come true soon.Significantly reduce the carbon imprint of my household and inspire others to do the same. As an outdoorsman, I value the environment and I think it’s important to protect that, whether or not it’s in danger.

Professional BackgroundI've had a wonderful opportunity to focus on my studies as they wind down to the final stretch. I've been keeping busy with some consulting projects including some graphic/web and instructional design with some great clients. My professional focus has shifted over the years and it's becoming more active and acute with experience. I find myself ready to take the reigns from the instructed to the active problem solver. I have always been that way, and now that I'm armed with powerful resources and diverse experiences, I am confident that the combination has made me a powerful asset for an organization that is ready to tackle challenges head on.My professional experiences range from the non-profit setting to the fast paced bull pens of sales environments. Through the years I've attained not only essential skills but values such as teamwork, communication and leadership, that transform complex problems to successful products. To me, instructional design is the medium that combines my insatiable taste for knowledge, a knack for creativity and technology and the desire to share knowledge and experiences with others. My professional goals are simple, seek challenges and provide attractive and viable solutions related to instructional design.
Professional BackgroundInstructional Design ProjectsCurrently consulting with the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Denver Colorado to convert a stale face-to-face training program to an energetic blended learning environment and additionally train more employees with fewer personnel.Created short, concise computer based training modules to help brokers learn various technical skills including Microsoft Office Functions and client database operations. The goal was to increase individual productivity by delivering short packets of information that were manageable for the busy brokers. Training was also delivered in face-to-face fashion as well.Designed and maintained an online community of practice for a marketing department that spanned across various office locations. With budgets getting tight, it became difficult to maintain monthly lunch meetings with the various large marketing departments. I developed an online discussion forum for the marketing professionals to share their best practices. Additionally, the forum allowed for cross departmental collaboration. The community of practice supported not only collaboration and sharing knowledge, but stimulated consistency with the marketing materials, which was also a challenge due to the locations of the offices. To learn more about the project click here.Developed instructional materials using e-learning principals for asynchronous training:Challenge: Outside sales team needed training for tradeshow operations. Because all of the sales team members were spread across the nation, face-to-face instruction was very difficult and as new members joined the team, training needed to be integrated into the orientation process. Solution: I created an online series of training modules using Adobe Captivate accessible to the sales team. Result: The sales team members became less dependent on the sales team in managing their trade show materials, thus reducing marketing resources.Challenge: Organization rolled out new company intranet, transitioning from static web pages to interactive and much more complex SharePoint. About 100 employees needed to be trained on the operation and function, as well as the new standards (such as file sharing, check-in/check-out procedures) for the intranet. With limited qualified training personnel, it was a tremendous challenge to get so many people up to speed with a quick product roll out. Solution: I created a series of short online training modules for both managers (with higher permission levels) and general users to create a knowledge base for the basic functionality and establish company standards for the intranet. Result: A smooth transition into the new intranet system. Which fostered an environment for more efficient knowledge sharing across departments resulting in quicker turn around time for projects and products.Development Tools: Adobe Creative Suite; Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Contribute, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Flash, Ning.com (for community of practice), Microsoft PowerPoint, Web 2.0 Tools, WSS 3.0 (SharePoint)
