Media statement of intent
How do you intend to use the four arias of media theatrical framework to communicate
meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
Product 1: music video approx. 400 words)
My magazine is coherent with the love song genre, it is a rap song which is a sub-genre of
hip-hop. The song is called ‘because I love you.’ I want the video of love song I’ve chosen to
tell a story about not only love but men’s mental health. The story of my video is going to be
how at the beginning of the relationship between the singer and his partner, they are
happy, and you can see that from a flashback perspective. Then the singer will show how his
everyday life goes before the ending where you get a strong hint of how badly affected, he
really is. This is to challenge the stereotype that young boys/men are meant to be strong
and are meant to represent a lack of weakness and there will be many connotations that
could be made from my video that show that men try to conceal to conform but that it isn’t
a good idea. The song talks about the artists love for his ex-fiancée but also about the love
for his lost friends. I want to portray the main singer in many normal scenarios to give off
the impression that you can’t always see when people are hurting.
My video will be targeted at young people of 16 to 25 years of age. My video will be
primarily aimed at young males as the song that I am using is from the perspective of a male
so it will be easier for men to relate and empathise causing them to emotionally engage
better. My video is following themes and conventions like Lil Wayne, a rapper/hip-hop
artist who works with universal music. The mise-en-scène will represent the artists story I
am trying. Camara angles will vary dependent of the scene but will include a verity. The
sound will be adjusted in fading in and out unlike the original video and the editing will be
mainly quick cut scenes as I plan to use switching from one camara to another often. The
fonts I will use will vairy. The font for the logo of my artist will be a mix between white on
black for the first three letters and stamPete for the other 4 letters. Both fonts are decretive
sans serif fonts and give a graffiti look which is a key component of original hip-hop. For the
title of the song I will use Calibri (Body) which is sans serif as it stands out clearer on
computer screens.
Product 2: promotional website (approx. 100 words)
My website will follow a dark theme. The primary colours being white over black to follow
the dark theme that the music video portrays. The brand design will be consistent with a
lost rebellious theme as it will fit well with the video I want to make. The website will have
links to the “artists” “social-media” as well as the music video itself and the making of music
video. Links to things like the artists Facebook/Instagram/twitter will be at the top left of the
screen as so they are clear and easy to locate but don’t take away from the website’s
details.
