2. Narrative is shown in my ancillary text, as the name of my album
is ‘Payback’. This links to the narrative that my main artist has
left his former band because through the word Payback, it is
showing that his new album is his payback to his former band.
Also through the front cover we can see narrative, as we can see
the darkness highlighted on my artist while there is the light
behind him. This was done on purpose, because this album
cover shows how my main artist felt in the shadows in his former
band, however now part of his new band he has gone to the
light. This shows conventions of a real CD front cover, as lots of
album cover have a secret meaning and this can link with the last
Johnny Cash album ‘The man comes around’, as his album cover
had a secret meaning as well. The meaning in his album is seen
through the main image as half of his face is blending with the
dark. This was to show that he was coming to the end of his life
and that he only has some light left in him.
3. Cinematography also helps enforce the genre of
indie/rock in my ancillary text, as for my CD cover I
have a long shot of my band. This helps convey the
genre of indie/rock, as through the use of the long
shot we can see the mise en scene used and that it
is symbolic to indie/rock. Also I took inspiration
from the Ramones with their album cover, as they
use a long shot also.
4. The representation of age is
conveyed in my magazine
advertisement, as in my magazine
advertisement we see my artists
pose behind a shutter that has
graffiti on it and this portrays the
stereotype being rebellious. This
is also shown in the magazine AD
containing the Artic Monkeys
where they are on stage, as this
would shows that they party which
suggest being rebellious which
links to the representation of
teenagers/young adults.
5. I used audience throughout my ancillary text, as through there
guidance on what shows indie/rock in ancillary text, I gained an
understanding on what I needed to achieve in my ancillary text. An
example of this is that the audience state that indie/rock ancillary
text should have a nice and simple design with a simple font. This is
what I achieved in the back cover of my ancillary text, as I used a
simple image that links well with the front cover and also the font
used for the track list also fit well with the audience perspective of
what font I should use. This is also shown in lots of other back covers
such, as Oasis album ‘Definitely maybe’, as the image and font used
in this back cover is a very simple design, however this is what the
indie/rock audience expect.
