Rory - To film our music video we used the Sony FS100, which is a prosumer camera
that allowed us to shoot high quality HD image. The camera allowed for in-camera effects
like “S&Q” and “Smooth and Slow”, this allowed us to create the slow motion effect while
maintaining the high quality image rather than doing it in post-production that would have
affected the quality.
Etienne - Because the camera didn’t have an integrated lens, we were able to use
different lenses to achieve different shots. We used the 10mm for wide shots; 35 mm for
mid-shots and 85mm for close up shots. The ranges of lenses also allowed us achieve
quality imagery for the video.
Steph - We also used an iPad on set to playback the song and also as a visual
countdown so that when it came to editing we could easily sync the song to the video.
Georgia - We also used an LCD TV as a field monitor that was connected to the
camera so we could have a clear view of the footage being shot and decided whether
changes needed to be made to it.
Rory - We used a lighting mix box to control all the lights on set. This allowed to sync
moments when lights changed to the beat of the song effectively by first getting the
desired light setting and saving it then putting it up on cue. This made the filming
process easier and more fluent.
Etienne - In terms of editing, we used jumpy cuts at the beginning in order to create the
effect that the Luna was disorientated and confused. We let each shot run for longer
than usual, in order to conform with the conventions of an indie-pop video.
Steph - It took a long time to perfect the video, since we had to ensure that everything
looked professional - in the scenes with the balloons, it was important to time the
popping with the music.
Georgia - After the editing process was finished, we had to colour grade the video, to
ensure that continuity was maintained throughout.
