3. • A range of angles and ranges are used but the house style for this
magazine is close ups.
• The rule of thirds is used to focus on important points of the
magazine
• The common background throughout Q magazine front covers is a
plain blank background.
• Artists are usually looking at the camera which makes them look
intimidating.
• There is always headroom and nose room.
4.
5. • The distance at which the picture is taken varies from close up to
longshot.
• Rule of thirds is used to pinpoint specific focus points of the image
throughout the double page spreads.
• From the examples given it seems that the artists aren't looking at the
camera. This adds an effect of mystery as we don’t know what they're
looking at.
• Once again the background is plain and empty, this follows the house
style of Q magazine pictures.
6.
7. • Once again we see that the image type varies from close up to
longshot.
• The rule of thirds is used throughout.
• There seems to be something in the background of the images on the
contents page. For example on the page in the middle there seems to
be a ‘K’ behind Kanye West. This is to symbolise his name.
• This time some artists seem to be looking at the camera, this makes
the seem intimidating but also can create a link with the audience as
if the artist is looking at the reader.
8. Applying Photographic Conventions
• Shot types- There will be a variety of shot types used throughout my
magazine, all will have different effects although I prefer longshots.
• Composition- I will use techniques such as the rule of thirds, headroom and
nose room.
• Body language- The body language used will imply connotations of the
genre therefore it will be aggressive.
• Mise-en-scene- The props, costume and setting will all link with the genre
of rock. The colours of the clothes will be black and the setting will be a
place such as an abandoned house or graveyard.
• Background- The background will contain parts of the setting, for example
if the setting is in a graveyard then gravestones will be used.
