Mock up and draft

Analysis of mock up and draft
2. The Cover
• My idea for the cover is to
create a simple layout that
would be focused more
around the image than the
text surrounding it. I want
to place the head of the
image above the layer of
the masthead in order to
give more power on the
page.
• A main cover line will be
placed in a red to give it
more dominance on the
page and too separate it
from the masthead.
3. Cover Page
The writing that will be on the front cover will advertise the other
artists in the magazine.
I will have a quote that I will be using as a cover line to promote the
contents of the Congi double page spread that will be the most
significant selling point of the magazine hence their appearance on
the front page as well as the main double page spread
4. Colour
• I have chosen grey as it is a timeless colour that portrays a
sense of sophistication, simplicity, authenticity and honesty of
the genre and should stand out against the background of the
photo I am going to take.
• I have used red for the cover line as I thought it would be a
colour that would be noticeable on the page and something
that your eye would be attracted to.
• The background will be a mix of white, grey and blue, so a red
should stand out well in this situation. I have used red as I feel
it has connotations of darkness. It is for that reason that I
chose the colour to connote the dark attitude of the music in
the underground scene and to portray the passion for the
music.
5. The Contents
• The original idea I had for
my contents page was to
place images into the
gaps of the numbers.
However I don’t think
that will work as well as I
originally thought so
instead I will have images
running along the bottom
of the page in triangles
that will be positioned to
fit together. The layout
connotes the creativity of
the music in that it is not
manufactured.
6. The contents
• This contents page concept was an idea I came across and
immediately loved it. It is a perfect design element for my magazine
as it sits perfectly in the page and most importantly differs the
magazine from the normal clumpy designs. By doing this design I
have made the magazine different which is what the target audience
of a niche music scene will want. The contents page carries the same
simplistic design that is portrayed on the front cover. A row of images
neatly comprised together in triangle formations lay across the
bottom of the page to showcase the visual elements of the magazine.
This design is perfect for this magazine as it is professional and
consistent with the magazine style. I chose triangles as they connote
the organised style of the beats that are associated with this genre.
Within the triangles will be photos of the other artists ‘Chris Curnick’
and ‘Joe blunt’. The photos of Chris will be medium close up and a
medium long shot. The medium close up will connote his professional
stance as an artists. I wanted a close up of Chris as well as a medium
close up to connote how the artists don’t see themselves as better
than the audience like many artist do in pop genres. The photos of
Joe will be him on the small bike. I will have a close up of him in his
gear and a longshot of him sat on the bike. The long shot of Joe on
the bike connotes the fun of the photo as you can see all of him
showing his personality.
7. Double page spread
• The double page spread will portray the duo Congi in a stylish manor with a large image taking up a
large section of the two pages. The rest of the DPS will be filled with writing and images of Congis
albums. The writing will talk about Congi’s story and how they began to make their way into the music
scene.
8. Double page spread
• This page is carefully planned in terms of text and image scaling. All
images and text are scaled in terms of importance in enticing the
reader in. I have planned to have a large image of the duo in front of
the graffiti wall across the double page spread as a visual aid to the
page. Additional information is small in size such as the albums that
are almost used as a page filler along the bottom.
• I will have drop caps at the beginning of some new paragraphs to
split the text up and ensure it does not disappear next to the other
elements on the page. the larger letters at the beginning of some of
the paragraphs connote the sophistication of the magazine.
• I have chosen to have a large image across one half of one of the
pages in a triangle shape to connote the organised beats that are
associated with the magazine like the design on the contents page.
• I wanted the image of them behind the graffiti wall as It is
iconography of the genre. By placing both of them in the shot
highlights how DJ’s work together.
