2. Mainstream Film Openings
• Mainstream film openings normally have a
long winded list of credits at the beginning, if
it is a very big title it will also have its own
opening sequence. (E.g. James Bond: Skyfall)

• This is also backed up by a well known singer,
Adele, which will back up a mainstream
audience and reassure there interests.

3. Social Realism Film Openings
• They have very specific opening sequences at the
beginning, most of them show what they are going to
be about right at the start. This also either gets you
interested or shuns you away if you do not feel it is
appropriate for your viewing. (E.g. London to Brighton)

• This is a real gritty opening which depicts, a women
and a girl, who have both seemingly been beaten going
into a grotty toilet. This is very alarming and would
either catch the attention or make someone want to
turn the film off .

4. Comparision
• These two films go in very different
directions, in London to Brighton it is very
dark and dreary with a bad setting whereas
Skyfall has a very action packed beginning and
it is a big film with a big budget with well
known actors. London to Brighton doesn’t
have very well known actors it also has a very
down to earth, slice of life storyline while
Skyfall has a very surreal and imaginative
storyline.

• This is a particularly gritty piece that’s started in a
dirty graphitised toilet, they also have bruises on
there bodies this will either catch peoples
attention or make them want to stop watching it.

6. Made in Britain
• Starts with Vanity plates then goes to a black screen – 14 secs
• Opening Sentence – Tales out of School 7 secs
• Scene one – Guy rolling his eyes, Walks through a building
with people following him and music playing – 42 secs
• Scene 2 – in court him being accused, being cocky – 33 secs
• Title of film – Made in Britain – 4 secs
• Title of writer – Made Screenplay David Leland – 4 secs
• This catches the readers attention because of the use of
non-diegetic sound and also the use of body language to gain
interest in the film.

7. Last Resort
• Production Logo/ Vanity Plates – 11 seconds
• Opening Screen, Titles over the top – 6 seconds
• This very short, very bland opening doesn’t give
the viewer any clue about what the movie is
about and the plot. This may cause them to
become intrigued.
