2. Why I looked into the genre for my
trailer:
• I could use old horror films to get ideas as many
other directors do, this means that audiences will
be familiar with the genre and the ideas used
therefore might be more likely to watch.
• It’s cheap to do and simple to do on a small/non
existent budget- Instead of special effects, and
man made settings, I would look at where I’d
place the camera to gain the right effect and
mood for my trailer.
3. I did some research into some films
which are from the ‘horror’ genre.
4. Let The Right One In (2009)
Directed by Thomas Alfredson
• Film is in Swedish with the option for English subtitles.
• It was remade and renamed by the Americans- ‘Let Me In’.
• It is a vampire film rated at a 15. I would say the audience
for this film having watched it, would be 16+. This is due to
the fact that it wasn’t too gory, but it did involve serious
scenes with children and adults, which may be difficult for
some people to watch, but it wasn’t like all the large
American productions with all the special effects. Alfredson
seemed to have focused on where the camera was placed
to create mood and atmosphere more. This is a technique
that I would be interested in looking into more detail.
5. Psycho (1960)
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
-Hitchcock is sometimes referred to as the master
of horror. He focuses on the tension in films, he also
investigates the state of mind and within that
mainly focuses on the treatment of women. In
nearly all of his films Hitchcock has portrayed
women as venerable and often the women in his
films suffer a very painful death or some kind of
psychological damage.
6. Nosferatu (1922)
Directed by F.W Murnau
• It is a silent movie based on the story Dracula, it
thoroughly relies on music to portray emotion
and tension within the film, unlike a lot of the
American horrors coming out nowadays.
• It isn’t in the colouration that we are used to
today, but, in tones of one plain colour, relying on
shadowing and lighting to change the mood.
7. The Shining (1981)
Directed by Stanley Kubrick
• It’s starring Jack Nicholson- who later went on to
be known as the odd/ mental character.
• Tension is a key aspect to this film.
• This film contains the well known image of ‘Jack’
the character Nicholson plays, peering through
the door with that psychotic face. Which would
be simple and cheap to imitate for my trailer.
