2. Stereotypes
I think my magazine fits in well with the stereotypical rock genre in
numerous ways. For example, the model is wearing casual clothes, has
quite a rugged look about him. He is carrying a guitar, an iconic image
throughout rock.
The model's build is simply average, unlike hip hop magazines such as
Vibe or XXL where the models are extremely muscular or supermodel
skinny. This was to give the impression that anyone can become
successful, attracting a wider range of social groups.
3. Gender
Normally the typical rockstar is a male, so I have followed this
convention. Again I kept the rugged, casual look which will attract a
female audience yet will also encourage males to buy it as they will
feel they can relate to him (Uses and Gratifications). Also, unlike fashion
magazines or glam mags I have kept the topics within unisex.
Therefore, where fashion magazines would only really apply to a
female audience, the unisex topics appeal to both men and
women, keeping my magazine welcoming to both genders.
4. Social Class
The pricing of the magazine is extremely cheap, £2.50, and comes out
bi-weekly. Therefore it is affordable for all classes. However, if it was
weekly then people may find it slightly too expensive.
I also related to the lower classes with the rags to riches story in the
article. This will give a sense of hope, accomplishment and welcoming
to the lower classes, making them feel as if they can achieve such
things too, backed up by the inspirational quotes in the article.
