Medgar Evers was a civil rights activist who became the first state field secretary of the NAACP in Mississippi in the 1950s. He worked to end segregation but was assassinated in 1963. He served in WWII and had a family in Mississippi with three children. Riots at his college killed two people. Evers spent his career fighting for racial equality and was an inspiration to many.
