Dexter was a Japanese Medaka fish observed by a lab group from April 8 to around April 19, 2011. The group watched and recorded Dexter's development from an egg in stage 18 to hatching. Dexter grew rapidly from barely visible in the egg to fully formed features over a few days. The group found it difficult to determine the precise development stage but recorded Dexter reaching stages 18, 23, 28, 30, 32-33, and 35 before hatching. The student was excited to observe the hatching but found the newly hatched fish smaller than expected.
