The five fish lived in a fish bowl, with one fish being overweight and lazy while the others were active and healthy. The healthy fish did not like the fat fish. When a new, clean fish bowl was placed next to the dirty one, the healthy fish devised a plan to jump to the clean bowl to survive, which they all succeeded in doing except for the fat fish, who was too exhausted to make the leap.

He vowed to never be lonely again and planned to escape his fish bowl by leaping into a neighboring bowl with three other goldfish. Skizzle trained daily, swimming laps to build up speed. When the opportunity came, he leapt from his bowl aiming for the neighboring one, but missed and instead landed in a shark tank, where he was immediately eaten by two baby sharks.

One night, it jumped but missed the old bowl and landed in the owner's nearby cup of water instead. When the owner came back, he drank from the cup without noticing the fish inside and realized later he had accidentally drank the fish. He decided to no longer keep the fish bowls separate and to never leave his drink near the fish bowl again.

When a small blue fish asks for a scale, the Rainbow Fish refuses angrily. Later, a wise octopus tells the Rainbow Fish to share his scales to find happiness. Reluctantly, the Rainbow Fish gives a scale to the blue fish and discovers joy in sharing. He then gives scales to all the other fish. Though now less colorful, the Rainbow Fish is happy and accepted by his new friends.

In an exercise to demonstrate racism, a teacher separated students into groups with brown and blue eyes. She verbally abused the blue-eyed students while the brown-eyed students watched. Some blue-eyed students cried or left, experiencing what African Americans face daily through racism. The author believes the powerful exercise opened their eyes to how prevalent and unconscious racism remains in society, showing that people are not truly "color blind."

A group was given a list of people and asked to choose which 4 out of 12 should stay in a bunker during a disease outbreak. The group decided to keep the scientist, army officer, lawyer, and doctor as they believed these occupations would be most useful for repopulating the earth and providing education once the disease had passed. They acknowledged these people may not work well together but considered them the smartest options.

The fish bowl
- 1. Christa Navy The Lonely Fish Once upon a time there were five fish in a fish bowl. One fish was considered a “fat” fish. He was overweight and all he did was lay at the bottom of the bowl and steal everyone’s food as it sprinkled down. The other fish were very active. They swam around all day and played tag. They were very healthy and skinny fish. The healthy fish weren’t very nice to the fat fish. They were at first and they even invited him to play with them, but to no avail. Fat fish was content with being fat and lazy all day long. Then one day, their fish bowl was getting extremely dirty, and so the owner, instead of just cleaning out the bowl, decides to buy a new bowl all together with clean water, and he places it next to the dirty bowl. However, the owner walks away and completely forgets to transfer the fish to the new bowl. The days go on and the fish become miserable as they are swimming in their own filth, suffocating. The clean bowl looks so inviting and delicious. So, the healthy fish come up with a plan that they are all going to jump out of their dirty bowl and into the clean bowl. They know it is a matter of life and death: if they stay in the dirty bowl they will die, but if they miss the jump then they will die from being out of the water. They decide to go on this mission anyway. The first fish jumps… and he lands in the water. The second fish jumps… and he lands in the water. The third fish jumps… and he lands in the water. The fourth fish jumps…and he lands in the water. They couldn’t hear the exhausted cries from the fat fish at the bottom of the bowl as he cried, “Help! I’m too fat I’m not gonna make it!” Fat fish knew he was going to die, but he decided to take the leap of faith anyway. He swam to the top of the bowl and jumped with all of his might… The End.
