Secondary school and university students spend their free time differently based on how they rate the benefits of various activities. Secondary school students spend the most time attending tuition classes to obtain better grades, while university students spend the most surfing the internet to stay updated. Both groups rate having a better understanding highly and allocate time accordingly. How students rate maintaining a healthy body and fulfilling responsibilities influences the little time spent on related activities like playing games and consulting lecturers. In conclusion, how secondary school and university students use their free time correlates with how they rate the benefits of different activities.

AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN 2014 AND
STUDENTS’ RATING OF BENEFITS GAINED BY
ENGAGING IN FREE TIME ACTIVITIES
Figure 1 and Figure 2 show activities during free time by
secondary school and university students respectively in 2014, while Table 1
shows students’ rating of benefits gained by engaging in free time activities.
Generally, students’ rating of benefits influenced the time spent on activities
during free time of secondary school and university students.

4. Secondary school students spent the most amount of time to
‘attend tuition classes’ (150 minutes) as they rated ‘obtain better grade’ as the
most significant (1). However, university students spent the most to ‘surf the
internet’ (150 minutes) because they rated to ‘be more updated’ the most
significant (1). Both students gave the same rating (2) to ‘have better
understanding’ as university students spent the second most amount of time
(120 minutes) to ‘carry out group discussion’ while for secondary school
students, it was to ‘do homework’. When secondary school students

5. rated to ‘have a healthy body’ as the second least significant (4), university
students rated it the least (5). As a result, secondary school students spent
the second least amount of time to ‘play games’ (20 minutes) while university
students spent the least to ‘take a nap’ (20 minutes). In contrast, fulfilling
responsibility was rated 5 by secondary school students and 4 by university
students, therefore the time spent on helping parents was the least (10
minutes) and to ‘consult lecturer’ was the second least (30 minutes)
respectively.

6. In conclusion, activities during free time by secondary school
and university students correlated with the students’ rating of benefits.
