What is an average?
A measure of central tendency is often
called the average of a set of data. There
are, however, various ways of calculating
the “average” of a set of data. These
include:

Mean
The mean is the sum of a set of numbers divided
by the number of numbers in the set.
On your first five consumer math tests, you
received the following scores: 70%, 94%, 82%,
96%, 70%
Find the mean score of your test results.
Solution
(70% + 94% + 82% + 96% + 70%) ÷ 5 = 82.4

Mode
The mode is the number which occurs most often
in a set of numbers (if all values occur only once,
there would be no mode). It is possible to have
more than one mode.
On your first five consumer math tests, you
received the following scores: 70%, 94%, 82%,
96%, 70%
Find the mode score of your test results.
Solution 70%

Median
The median is the middle number of a set of data
when the data are arranged in numerical order.
On your first five consumer math tests, you
