Service learning provides students with real-world experience and skills while helping their community. Activities that count as service learning include work done for nonprofits, approved activities for clubs and religious groups, and volunteer work with youth sports. Activities that do not count are tasks done for family, babysitting, regular club meetings, yard work, or performances. Service learning can strengthen college applications and make students eligible for scholarships from the McNair Educational Foundation.
