This document discusses a mobile learning programme for medical students at the School of Medicine. It implemented a programme where Year 4 and 5 students were provided iPhones to use as learning tools. The programme aimed to allow learning anytime, anywhere through mobile access to medical resources, assessments, and opportunities for feedback from clinical practice. Benefits included retaining learning in clinical settings and timely access to information. Evaluations found students and clinicians saw benefits when used appropriately, though some issues around unprofessional use in front of patients were noted. Overall the programme supported innovative blended learning and improved preparation of lifelong learning skills.
Feedback for medicine - Long cases using PebblePad - Ruth Weeks (University o...ePortfolios Australia
This presentation will focus on the use of an eportfolio (PebblePad) to provide timely formative feedback on long case histories in seven clinical schools across the University of Sydney Medical Program. A common complaint from students and residents is that they are not given enough feedback in the clinical setting. This project was designed to offer feedback on written cases and, in addition, to gather data on who was actually viewing the presentations of long cases in the clinical setting. From 2015, a required formative assessment was introduced, consisting of eight long cases which were presented orally (with immediate feedback given by a supervisor or other staff), then written up and submitted via Pebblepad. Formative assessment was provided by a Medical Lead in each clinical school also via the eportfolio. Students had the option of reflecting on their written cases.

StudySmart is a self-paced online course originally designed for second year medical students at the University of Otago by the Health Sciences liaison librarians.(1) The course replaced in-class information skills labs and was piloted with this cohort in 2012.(3) In 2013, with support (2) from the Schools, StudySmart was rolled out to second year Dentistry, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy students. By the end of 2013 StudySmart was accepted as a Terms requirement within the Medical, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy curricula.
The content comprises learning objects developed in-house (4) as well as appropriate Open Educational Resources (OERs) from external sources. It comprises a series of topics, tasks and quizzes which are built within the extant Learning Management Systems (LMS) - Moodle and Blackboard. Academics are able to select topics that meet their students’ needs from a pool that is edited or added to as required.
We will report on qualitative and quantitative evaluation data which demonstrate the students’ level of knowledge and understanding after completing StudySmart, as well as reporting on what the students believed were the most valuable and least valuable aspects of the course. The majority of students who completed the course reported an increase in knowledge of, and understanding about, the topics covered and were positively disposed to the value of the online course.(5, 6) This paper will also report on some of the challenges that we faced and how the course has developed within the programmes for 2014.
This paper builds on a short talk given at Spotlight on Teaching & Learning at the University of Otago on 27th August 2013.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The Indian economy is classified into different sectors to simplify the analysis and understanding of economic activities. For Class 10, it's essential to grasp the sectors of the Indian economy, understand their characteristics, and recognize their importance. This guide will provide detailed notes on the Sectors of the Indian Economy Class 10, using specific long-tail keywords to enhance comprehension.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

13. Benefits of mobile learning near
patients – students
“I think it’s a great advantage though because if you think you are going to look
something up at home and you don’t have a piece of paper …you’ll forget it. I find I
have a lot of free time, so if I’m going into the back room….I can look it up, oh
yeah I know what that is now.”
“…like I have sat in clinic…and the doctor has said to me “in a
minute I’m going to ask you about nephrotic syndrome” and
then he sort of turned round to go on his computer and I was
like ok, nephrotic syndrome, um, so I’ve used it for literally just
looking something up a lot.”
“Disability friendly. You can’t carry books on a ward”
14. Benefits of mobile learning near
patients – teachers
“Access to clinical information at the time they think of the question -
more likely to look something up there and then than if have to
remember to do so at a later date.” (Clinician)
“Usually better/faster than hospital IT” (Clinician)
“They were used in appropriate places in clinical settings… e.g. doctors
office or behind desk and they were used for appropriate activities so I
was not concerned. Had they been playing games on them in less
appropriate settings my answer would be different.” (Clinician)
15. Issues with mobile learning near
patients
• “I don’t usually use it in front of patients. I think it’s quite
unprofessional actually to use it in front of patients.” (Student)
• “Doesn’t look good. Even if being used legitimately it just looks
like they are texting their friends.” (Clinician)
• “I am happy with this at appropriate moments but not if I or
the patient are talking. I don’t want patients to take routine
phone calls or play on their phones and I wouldn’t [do] so
during a consultation. I would hope students will show similar
etiquette.” (Clinician)
