The Landlady Theme
The Landlady is a short story written by Roald Dahl, it started when the main character, Billy
Weaver, travel to Bath from London for his new job acceptant. The story was written in the third
person point of view and it describes about the dangerous things that wait for the inexperienced
Billy Weaver, when he wants to stay at a strange boarding house. Through the description, we can
see that the boy is too naГЇve and subjective about the outside world where he never actually
experience it. As a reader, we can easily recognized that the place is pretty creepy and quite
dangerous, when there are no sign of other guests, Billy also noticed about that but he is not fully
alert because of the sweet words from the landlady.
A most prominent theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Billy is exhibited as an honest young fellow who has just passed out of school, who appears to
be uninformed of the evils of life out in this present world. He doesn t for one moment assume
that there is anything vile about the lady. He is totally taken in by her cordial ways and is
enchanted by her cheap and comfortable rooms. He does distinguish some peculiarity in her
conduct, yet he merrily puts it down to her being somewhat dotty , and nothing else. Despite the
fact that he considers the vanishing of the two visitors that stayed there before him a vanishing that
made the news he regards it as a captivating puzzle instead of as a clue of danger. Youthful honesty,
then, is another main theme of the book; The way how youthful, blameless trusting natures are
exploited by more elderly, more naughty and evil minds. (Bingoffsky)
Roald Dahl utilizes metaphors as a part of the story, it isn t all the time I have the delight of
taking a guest into my small nest . He develops apprehension and tension in the reader s psyche
by utilizing this metaphor. For instance, when the lady depicts her home as little nest it makes the
reader think what part will Billy play in the lady s nest ; will he be the Landlady s baby or will he

Depression And Dementi Depression
Several studies have shown links between depression and dementia. Brommelhoff, Johansson,
Fratiglioni, Gatz, McArdle, Pederson state, there are three hypotheses that might explain the
association (Jorm, 2001). The first is that depression is a symptom that indicates the onset of
dementia, also known as a prodromal feature. The second is that the two are independent illnesses;
however, depression causes cognitive deficits, which lead to an earlier onset of dementia. The last
argues that depression causes damage in the hippocampus, which then leads to dementia. Some
studies have found depression to be a prodrome of dementia. One specifically found that depression
arises due to neuropathological damages during the course of dementia, and another showed that
people with late onset depression had greater frontal lobe atrophy than controls and those with early
onset depression. On the other hand, it has been shown that a history of depression increases the
risk of dementia later in life. There is some evidence that the earlier the onset of depression, the
greater the likelihood is of developing dementia later; however, this only held true in individuals
with little education. The disagreement and contradiction in previous studies call for further
experimentation, primarily to determine whether a history of depression significantly predicted the
likelihood of having dementia later in life (Brommelhoff et al., 2009). Researchers examined the
difference in the number of years

The Assessment Team Administrator Should Begin The Process...
The assessment team administrator should begin the process of soliciting assessment team
members. Many organizations solicit members through. Their corporate newsletter, electronic mail,
or a personal letter sent from the president/CEO inviting participation. Team members selections
should be considered from a group of employees who have expressed an interest in better
understanding homeland security and using the Baldrige Criteria as a template for improving their
organization s homeland security infrastructure. Once teammembers have been selected, it is
recommended that an assessment workshop be conducted by the assessment team administrator or
team participants who have an understanding of homeland security issues and the Baldrige Criteria.
The workshop may include using a case study for the team to practice identifying organizational
strengths and opportunities for improvement in at least one or two categories. During the
workshop, the team will discuss each category and determine What does this mean for my
organization? The use of this manual will help the team practice translating homeland security
issues and Baldrige Criteria into simple language for their own organization wide
assessment.Assessment team members should represent a cross section of employees. All
departments throughout the organization should be represented on the teams. Diversity adds value
and strength to each assessment team. In larger organizations, seven homeland security assessment

Themes In Fallen Angels, Girl In The Green Sweater And A...
All authors use literary devices as intrical parts of their story. Literary devices can include
symbolism, motif, theme, mood and more. They all are used to do the same thing; to enhance the
reader s experience and the development of the story. For instance, in the stories Fallen Angels, Girl
in The Green Sweater, and A Thousand Splendid Suns their authors all use theme as literary devices
to furtherly write the story. The themes are loss of innocence, fear, and the suppression of women.
In the end, all of these authors use unique, realistic themes throughout their story.
To begin, the story Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers has a very common theme. This theme
used is the loss of innocence. In other words, it is when time passes and someone starts to grow
up, they start to realize that nothing is perfect. Also, it is usually thought of as an experience or
period in a child s life that widens their awareness of evil, pain, or suffering in the world around
them. The story Fallen Angels takes place during the Vietnam War. The main character, Richie
Perry, decides to join the war. He is only seventeen; with that being said, the theme of losing
innocence fit perfect with this novel because all of the characters are still young and as they go
through war, they understand what life is really like. The novel explains the loss of innocence
only within a squad of soldiers fighting in Vietnam, Perry being one of them. Lastly, Walter Dean
Myers used theme in a very interesting way. His theme was occurred only in a certain group of
characters as the story moved on and on.
To continue, the themes in the story Girl in The Green Sweater by Krystyna Chiger and Daniel
Paisner was fright and loss of innocence, as well. The overall novel was written in Krystyna s
point of view of a small town of Jews surviving the Holocaust. Krysha, her family, and some of
the other families within the small town of Lvov snuck into the underground sewers to hide from
the Nazis. Chiger explained that they lived in the dark, with floods, fires, sicknesses, and death.
They were always fearful that they would be discovered. They hid their for 14 months. Before the
Nazis started capturing Jews Krysha believed the world was exactly how she

Cod Chapter Summary
I chose the book Cod: A Biography of the Fish That Changed the World. As the title suggests, and
the author, Mark Kurlansky, explores, a simple fish, more specifically, cod, has an importance that
has been proven throughout history. The prologue is set in Petty Harbour, a town in
Newfoundland and tells a story of three experienced fishermen, Sam, Leonard, and Bernard. They
are participating in the Sentinel Fishery which was an attempt to help scientists and fishermen
work together to measure the supply of cod. Their boat was to catch as many cod as they could
and measure and tag them. A second boat was to catch exactly 100 cod and open them to identify
their age and sex. For three men who fishingwas their life hobby, you would think this would...

As outlined in this assignment, a hazard is defined as an object, condition, or process that threatens
individuals and society in terms of production or reproduction. I would like to suggest that the
process of overfishing is a hazard that this book unfolds throughout history. Overfishing is simply
when cod are caught at a faster rate than they can naturally reproduce. The author suggests that man
is part of the natural world and the two can t separate themselves, and in this case the activity of
overfishing is driven by man. Cod provided a source of protein and a financial stability to many
nations. As populations increased, the demand for cod increased, and consequently the industry
became competitive in nature. Because of this, fishing for the Atlantic cod became commercialized,
and although nations modernized at different speeds, the goal for all was to catch more. As early as
1815, the French used the technique of longlining. Although it was expensive because of the
amount of bait that was used, it was the first advancement from handlining and allowed for
numerous fish to be caught at once. From there, bottom dragging became popular and although it
was an effective method of catching a lot of cod at once, it was also damaging to other fish that
got caught in the net. In addition to improved techniques, curing methods advanced and freezing
methods were developed. Technology advancements included the chronometer and telegraph
which both improved navigation, and sonors and spotter aircraft aided in spotting cod schools.
Fishing boats advanced from oars and sails to steam powered to motorships. All of these
advancements aided in the overfishing, and consequently became a hazard. Scientists argue that
you can t predict nature and there is no way to tell if and when, as well as, how long it will take
to replenish the codstock. For this reason, I suggest overfishing to be a hazard. The depletion of
cod has

Comparing The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms
Although, Canada offers comparable qualities and values with other countries, The Charter of
Rights and Freedoms really separates Canada from other social liberties enactments. The Charter of
Rights and Freedoms upholds the diversity of differing qualities of Canadian culture and assures
the freedom of individuals that lengthens boundaries apparent to the constitutionalized law. Thusly,
contrasted with different nations, Canadas judiciary performs a huge part in deciphering the law.
Considering the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which consists of basic human rights, it is evident
that Canada has many significant laws that acknowledge and protect the rights and freedoms
including the liberty and equality of citizens. In my opinion, the most important law that Canada
has is Fundamental Freedoms. According to The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Fundamental
Freedoms, are a group of laws... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of

be brief, The Charter of Rights and Freedoms permits protection to freedoms within individuals
of Canada. Everyone in Canada has a right to practice any belief or religion as they would like
to. We have freedom of speech, to assemble peacefully into groups and to associate with
whomever we desire, as long as we do not violate the law and rights of others. The liberation of the
media to print and broadcast news is also permitted under the Charter.
The reason as to why I believe this is most important law in Canada is due to the fact it allows
individuals to live their lives as one would prefer to practice it. For instance, primarily the main

The Issue Of International Taxation Essay
International taxation is one of the most pressing global topics in the world today. Tax regulations
was one of the most pressing topics in the recent United States presidential campaign. The reason
that people are so concerned with taxation is because it affects many aspect of society. Taxes affect
how much money employees are able to take home. The government is concerned with taxes
because it is hoe it generates revenue to fund governmental programs. The Mariam Webster
dictionary defines a taxas a compulsory contribution to state revenue, levied by the government
on workers income and business profits or added to the cost of some goods, services, and
transactions. Therefore, a tax is any contribution levied by a government for some types of
transaction. In addition, taxes are not unique to any particular country. The type of taxes and tax
rates that are utilized in countries may vary. However, every government in the world use taxes as
a means of generating revenue in order to fund governmental activities. With the spread of
globalization, countries were able to engage in business transactions with other countries across the
globe. Therefore, major corporations began to conduct more business activities in other countries.
As a means of regulating its counter trade and business global regulatory organization were
established. Organizations such as the World Trade Organizations are designed to allow a uniform
and fair trade among countries. However, a tax is

Reflection Paper On Haiti
My church was planning a mission trip to Haiti in Summer of 2016. As soon as I heard the
announcement I knew I was going. My husband, my then nineteen year old son and myself started
our plans to travel. Passports were bought, fundraisers were planned and me thinking I needed to
know everything there was to know about Haiti started my searches on the internet. I went into this
trip thinking I knew all about the culture, country, the people and what I could do for them. I
quickly found out just how wrong I was.
As soon as our flight started descending over Port Au Prince Haiti every ounce of knowledge I
thought I had vanished. There were fires in the distance and crumbled building as far as I could
see. As we exited the airport and once I caught my breath from how hot it was we had a mob of
people all over us like fleas on a stray dog. They wanted to help us so we will give them money.
And once we could get past that, a smell hit us from every direction. Burning garbage and
burning charcoal filled the air. Our drive was almost four hours to where we were staying and in
that four hour trip I saw more naked people, garbage, crumbling buildings and wild animals then I
had ever even known existed. There was so much new information to take in it was so
overwhelming. This was not something I had planned for.
After a night of rest, it was time to get to it. Here I am, ready to help. We can now fix everyone s
problems! Well, not so much. That thought had to leave my mind. There

Socrates Tragedy
An Innocent Tragedy
The trial of Socrates is well known throughout the modern world. It is a historical event that ties
together philosophy, literature, and law. However, do we stop to consider whether or not Socrates
was truly guilty of the crimes he was accused with. I believe Socrates was innocent on all charges,
since he sufficiently proved that he did believe in the gods and was not corrupting the youth. One
of the accusations brought against Socrates is he disregards the gods of the state, instead teaching
purely physical explanations for heavenly and earthly phenomena, which are typically explained
by the doings of the gods. Socrates refutes this claim by stating that he has no knowledge in the
field of scientific explanations. This is pre Socratic philosophy, which Socrates states he has never
taught. He asks the jury Tell one another, then, whether any of you has ever heard me discussing
such subjects, either briefly or at length; and as a result you will realize that the other things said
about me are equally baseless. (Pojman 37) Socrates goes on to rebut the first part of the accusation
by explaining that while he does not necessarily believe in the gods of the state, he does believe in
a higher god. Socrates argues that he cannot believe in one god without believing in other gods as
well. So, although he may not directly believe in the gods of the state, he acknowledges the fact
that such gods must exist. He points out the paradox in his accusers statement

Steam Engine
The Steam Engine and the Civil War
Question: How did the Steam Engine influence the Civil War and America in itself?
Throughout the Civil War, there were many people and inventions that positively influenced The
Civil War, but none other than the steam engine. The steam engine was one of the most influential
inventions of the Civil War and America in itself. Before the Steam Enginetrade was limited and
the American economy was doing very poorly. The causes of this were the rules of trade and the
inefficient transportation. At the time between the 1700 and 1800 s trade was only allowed during
the Day and was transported by a Wagon and horse which took weeks to deliver. The Steam Engine
not only revolutionized trade and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paragraph V. The Influences of the Steam Engine
Topic Sentence The Influence of the Steam Engine started with many things, such as the struggle
with trade and the limited amounts of transportation.
1.One influence of the Steam Engine was better transportation and trading. With the Railroad and
Train, trade was evolved and goods could be transported fresher and faster.(Savery,Thomas
47,48)
2. Another Influence of the Steam Engine was the lack of transportation. Before the Steam Engine
transportation was limited to only a horse and carriage which moved very slowly. (Pursell, C.W.)
Conclusion These influences of the steam engine helped make what America is today as a
superpower and shaped our economy for the future.
Although there were many other important figures and inventions that positively influenced
America and the Civil War, the Steam Engine is still one of the most important ones. The Steam
Engine evolved trade and transportation forever from switching the standard choice of
transportation from a Horse and Carriage to a Locomotive that was capable of carrying many
people. It also changed the way trade was looked at by decreasing the amount of time goods and
supplies took to reach their destination. The transcontinental Rail Road made it possible for trade
to be delivered promptly and efficiently. With the Locomotive, various types of goods could be
transported even goods that needed to be refrigerated. With the

Piggy Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
The theme of often the better looking people end up leaders is represented through the use of a
stunning looking conch. When the boys were deciding who the leader of their band should be,
they choose Ralph because, There was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet
most powerfully, there was the conch. (19) Ralph is chosen to be the leader of the party because he
is attractive and has possession of the conch, not because he has any intuitive leadership
characteristics. In this situation, Ralph is the conch among average shells and stones. Since the
association chooses Ralph for his looks, they miss out on the only sensible figure in the group,

The beast acts as a symbol for the group s horror when Sam and Eric think they see the beast
and, Then as though they had one terrified mind between them they scrambled away over the
rocks and fled. (107) The beast, truly being a made up creature brought to life through the fear of
the group, make the group extra sensitive when anything is out of the ordinary. The thought of
the beast not only conjures up fear, it brings in a sense of uncertainty. Through the alternating
beliefs of the beast being real, the boys are left thinking, I mean when Jack says you can be
frightened because people are frightened anyway that s all right. But when he says there s only
pigs on this island I expect he s right but he doesn t know, not really, not certainly I mean (95)
No one knows who to believe and whether what they are saying is true. Not only uncertainty, but
paranoia is conceived with the creation of the beast. When Simon determines that the beast is not
real, he is bombarded by the savage behaviors of his peers and when Simon was crying out
something about a dead man on the hill. Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! (168) The
boys crude actions put a stop to Simon s judgment before he could even get it out of his mouth
because of the boys paranoia, painting Simon as the imaginary beast. Overall, the beast,

Assasination of Leon Trotsky
The Assassination of Leon Trotsky
During the power struggle in Russia, an escaped prisoner of the name Lev Bronstein, was
murdered on August 20th, 1940 by Ramon Mercader. Bronstein was a Russian marxist who went
against Stalin s beliefs. He was forced to leave the country by Stalin s wishes. However, before he
left he accomplished many things such as helping the Bolsheviks into power and creating the South
Russian Workers Union.
Lev Bronstein was born on November 8th, 1879 and grew up in a small town in Yanovka,
present day Ukraine. He was the 5th child of a well off Jewish farmer. When Bronstein was 9, he
was sent to finish his schooling in Nikolayev. As a teenager he was very interested in socialism and
helped create the South Russia Worker s Union. He was later arrested along with 200 other union
workers and was sent to jail for four years. While he was in prison, he married a woman named
Aleksandra Soklovskaya and together they had two daughters . He abandoned his wife and kids.
He then escaped prison, obtained a forged passport and changed his name to Leon Trotsky.
He then moved to London, England where he joined with Lenin and his group of Russian Social
Democrats. He began working on a revolutionary newspaper called Iskra. That same year, he met
a woman named Natalia Sedova. They married and had two sons together. Later, while Russia was

Bible Passage Isaiah 53, 1-13
This week s Bible Passage Isaiah 53, 1 12, is about a prophecy that was written approximately 700
to 800 years before Jesus even came to this earth. The scripture speaks of God s servant, which is
Jesus who would be just a plain and ordinary servant with no dignity or beauty to make us desire
him or draw us to him. He was despised, rejected and he faced much pain and suffering. No one
would even look at Jesusin the face; he was ignored and was treated like he was nothing. He was
a man of great sorrows. Jesus would receive the wounds and suffering that should have been ours,
he endured the punishment, so that people can have peace. Isaiah described the suffering servant
in detail such as, He is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

The ancient Christian rejected Christ because they thought he was just a man who was trying to

Christian life that God intended? Or are we still rejecting Jesus Christ?
Also, both the modern and ancient Christian has problems totally understanding the true suffering
that Christ went through for us. The ancient Christian was very uncompassionate they cursed him,
ignored him and treated him like a nothing. His own peers even had him crucified to death.
However, is today s Christian any better? We still continue to choose to ignore him by not

Colleen Lunt s Ethical Dilemmas
In the profession of social work, all workers will be faced with an ethical dilemma in the course
of their professional career. An ethical dilemma is defined as a circumstance that requires the
worker to make a stance on the dilemma taking into account the situation and the outcome and
the affect it will have in social work, the client. (En.wikipedia.org, 2017) The case I have chosen

Building Elements Of A Successful Team
Proactive Planning
In meetings requested by managers, various agendas are discussed and explained. Of them, the
plan to establish self directed and high performance teams is spotlighted. The company needs to
establish a team that combines the different talent and work performance of its employees in
order to accomplish a particular goal and purpose. Concerns arise when some of the company s
managers are experiencing some teams that are self directed and high performing, while others are
not. Therefore, discussions are held which aim at familiarizing all employees with what it means to
be self directed and high performing.
In the process, they brainstorm on ideas like building elements of a successful team. If a manager
has not fulfilled the demand of having this type of team, they are focused on as needing more aid
in successfully moving forward towards the goal. At the time, those who are struggling are
expected to learn from those who are doing well in order for them to identify the mistakes and
how to correct them. In team building, through the help of leadership within the company, a team
of people collaborate and work together to achieve a common goal. (Midura Glover, 2005) In this
case, leaders are managers and they make decisions, clarify goals, build commitment practices and
coach their team. Team building is very important as it enhances collaboration. It also creates a
greater likelihood of commitment to the company by its employees and the overall communication

Linguistic Relativity Essay
Introduction:
Linguistic relativity is the notion that language can affect our thought processes, and is often
referred to as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis , after the two linguists who brought the idea into the
spotlight. Whorf writes how Language is not merely a reproducing instrument for voicing ideas
but rather is itself the shaper of ideas, the program and guide for the individual s mental activity
(1956:212), and I will explain how it is able to do so. In this essay I will argue that certain ways of
mental categorization, spatial cognition and reality interpretation, based on the characteristics of
our specific variety of language, influence our perception of the world. I will discuss how
languages divide up nature differently, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dirven and Verspoor note how the English differentiation is entirely forced on these children by
the contrast between the English prepositions in and on (1998:140), whereas in Korean, Kkita
(glossable loosely as fit ...) is indifferent to whether the Figure goes into, onto, over, or together
with the Ground, as long as it leads to a tight fit (Choi and Bowerman 1991:90).
The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the grammatical structure
of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity, as both groups of children
construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on the basis of their language specific
categories, and not on the basis of some universal, conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor
1998:140 141). This suggests that the children from the two linguistic communities will partly see
the world in a different way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions.
Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different languages
prioritise different qualities. What this means is that when we say something belongs to a certain
set, e.g. that putting toys into a container falls into an in group, we are focussing on some, but
neglecting other details of the situation, such as the tightness of the fit. The framework of our

Race has no biological meaning. There is only one human race; there are no subspecies, no single
defining characteristic, traits, or even gene, separates one race from another. Instead of being a
biological concept, race is a social construct, and a relatively modern one at that. It was created to
give light skinned Europeans an advantage by making the white racesuperior and all others inferior.
Throughout its history, the concept of racehas served this purpose well. Ancient civilizations,
although they practiced slavery, did not classify people based on race, but on other characteristics,
such as religion and status. The concept of race first developed in the 18th century, as a way for

exclude them and to deny them participation in American political and social life, (Chan). In fact,
they could not become real Americans because they were not allowed citizenship until the 1940s
and 1950s. In the 20th century, there was confusion as to whether Asian Americans should be
considered akin to blacks or whites. Earlier generations had entered the country as a replacement
for black slaves, but during segregation, many Asians were allowed to attend white schools,
theaters, and restaurants. They were not, however, allowed to live in white neighborhoods and
when the matter was pressed, they were grouped with blacks. In the 1960s, in the midst of the Civil
Rights movement, they were given the status of a model minority to make blacks seem inferior and
to confer honorary whiteness on Asians. In Hawaii,

Capitalism And Consumerism
Some would say that the advertisers are responsible for building the hype and the consumer is just
responding to a once in a lifetime deal (that happens every year). Some have even gone as far as
blaming capitalism and the manner in which it functions within our society. If you recall though,
James Twitchell blames the consumer and not these other outlets. Some might blame this on
capitalism, but one can love the freedom and innovation of capitalism and hate the materialism of
consumerism... However this isn t because capitalism promotes consumerism. Capitalism is just
an economic system an imperfect one that that reflects the values we put into it, so if we feed it
consumerism, that s what we ll get. We, the consumers, are guilty of turning Thanksgiving into a
consumerist holiday (Daniel). This isn t to say that everyone that participates in Black Thursday
or Friday is guilty of consumerism, maybe they don t have a family to spend the holiday with or
maybe shopping with family is there means of spending quality time together. The important thing
is that we are all consumers in this society and we must be aware of the production companies
ability to trigger that within our brains the need to buy more and more things we don t necessarily
need and sometimes even want. Playing the victim in all of this proves that you are aware of the
tactics used to get you to use your purchasing power and inturn you are aware of your own ability
to change the way consumerism is currently

George Armstrong Custer s Death In The Battle Of Little...
The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as the Battle of Greasy Grass, was not a significant battle
when comparing death count, but it was a big turning point in the course of American History.
George Custer was a widely respected military leader who had rarely lost a battle up until that
point. It was a shock to the white population that an Indian tribe had that much power and could
beat such a powerful army with such advanced military tactics. George Armstrong Custers
arrogance and the already tense relations with the Sioux Indians were the main factors that
ultimately contributed to his death in the Battle of Little Bighorn.
George Armstrong Custer was born in Ohio on December 5, 1839. He entered the military
academy at West Point in 1857. He was not strong academically, but he showed strong leadership
qualities at an early age. Custer got into the militaristic mindset early in life. He entered the
American Civil War fresh out of West Point and became quite famous as a member of a
generation of boy generals known for their aggressiveness. He reported to the 2nd US Cavalry as
2nd Lieutenant in the battle of the First Bull Run. Custer briefly served on the staff of Brigadier

Essay about The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club
Almost 150 years ago, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., expressed the following sage but sad
observation in his book The Professor at the Breakfast Table : Society is always trying in some
way or other to grind us down to a single flat surface. Unfortunately, this is still true today. Last
week I saw the movie The Breakfast Club written and directed by John Hughes which expressed a
similar theme. Fortunately, youth of every age are quite aware of what they are going through and
have the ability to break the fast imposed on them by the socialization process which begins in the
home and is reinforced at school, not only by students and parents but teachers like Mr. Vernonas

Substance Abuse In Nursing Home
Most government controlled homes do not get sufficient funds, so they lack trained workers and
necessary equipment. Still, they get more help and don t prioritize money, which results in better
quality service. Chains and for profit companies use a system of rewards and sanctions for
managers and board of directors, executives must prioritize shareholder value which may
compromise other goals such as quality (Harrington 786). Another issue is that many nursing homes
use antipsychoticdrugs but often times they administer them illegally, harming the patients. It was
found in a recent study that 41% of patients use antipsychotics for a long period of time. The push
by pharmaceutical companies to market their products can sometimes be the reason... Show more

The Growth Of The Corporate Bond Market
In the last few years, a number of things have changed:
There has been a significant increase in new corporate bond issues (and other hybrid securities) that
can be accessed by sophisticated retail investors, including growth of issues by unrated companies.
Ways for retail investors to access corporate bonds have continued to develop.
Regulatory changes to reduce impediments to retail investment in corporate bonds are slowly
occurring.
Ultimately, the maturation of the corporate bond market depends upon three key factors: underlying
demand of investors; potential supply by corporate issuers; regulatory and other impediments to
connecting investors and issuers.

and the increasing relevance of fixed interest investments for funds with ageing members.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Short Story
The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is integral to the overall narrative of
the Israelites descent into Egypt. It also tells us that anyone can make his or her dreams come true.
His progression from dream interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt is one of the most elaborate
stories in the Bible, the Book of Genesis. Joseph was born in a family of 12 boys and Joseph was his
father s favorite. Jacob wanted to show everyone how much he loved Joseph and decided to give
him coat of many colors. The coat of colors was a prestige gift in Canaan, because it was very
expensive back then. Joseph had a dream of 11 sheaves of corn that turned and bowed down to a
golden sheaf of corn another dream that was about the sun, moon, and sky with eleven stars
bowing down before a bright golden star. He knew that someday he was meant for more things to
come that are powerful in his life. This was Gods way to show him that he will be great someday
and be a ruler. With the combination of knowing Joseph is Jacob s favorite son and Joseph s
dreams of being one that he may be a ruler of some kind, the 11 brothers become very jealous.
One day, they decided that they wanted to kill him, but before they get the chance, they came
across a couple of Ishmaelite s on their way to Egypt. They decided to sell Joseph as a slave. As
Joseph is taken to Egypt, his brothers return home, told their father that Joseph is dead; they

Evilness Of Mankind In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies: A View to the Evilness of Mankind
There is hardly ever a man clever enough to recognize the full extent of the evil he does. In the
novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, one could argue that man, in the state of
nature, is born evil. The boys in the novel, represent a metaphorical idea in which they are born
unto the island, and manifest mankind s true nature. As the story progresses, the boys construct a
society and ruin it. They revert to the primitive association in which fear and tyranny lead to
ultimate rule. All of the boys that try to do the proper and befitting deeds are killed off. This
violently throws them unto impending doom, thus proving that men are born evil.

That is, something that cannot be feigned, faked, or imitated. Simon is an individual. He is far
different from the other boys he is virtuous. Yet, one could still argue that he is only pure of heart
because he is not quite all there; Simon is an epileptic. It would not be fair to judge him alongside
the other boys, for if he were normal, he may have been just as evil as them another Roger
perhaps. Ralph is also one of the better boys on the island better, being only a relative term. That
is, though Ralph is not quasi Roger, he still has his ill characteristics. Ralph himself takes place in
the murder of Simon. He was only doing it out of fear, but none the less, he still took a life. Ralph,
treats the day s decisions as though he were playing chess.
The only trouble was that he would never be a very good chess player. (106). The fact that Ralph
makes bad decisions does mark him as somewhat of an evil character. If we are speaking in terms
of Simon being good and Roger being evil, Ralph lies inbetween them. He takes part in hunting
and killing, yet what separates Ralph from other boys is the fact that he takes responsibility for
his actions the others do not. This does not, however, imply that Ralph is free of evil. Ralph is
born with evil qualities just as any

Entrepreneurial Self Efficacy
Business opportunities are like buses, there s always another one coming. Richard Branson, founder

With a plethora of new ideas, innovations, skills and opportunities, entrepreneurship has become a
new trend in employment across the world. It is a good way to alleviate the pressure on
employment. Entrepreneurship can improve economic efficiency, bring market innovation, increase
employment opportunities and maintain employment levels (Shane, amp; Venkataraman,2000).

(Source: Entrepreneurial self efficacy and business start up: developing a multi dimensional
definition by DrnovЕЎek M. et al).
Theories in the past suggest that education targeted towards entrepreneurship can plays an
important role in developing levels of self efficacy. A bulk of researches has been done on how
education has affected the entrepreneurial self efficacy among the students. Bandura has said that
self confidence in our abilities to successfully perform specific tasks comes from four key sources:
mastery experiences, modeling, social persuasion, and judgments of our own physiological states.
Thus by providing education that is focused towards developing skills and interest for
entrepreneurship, can develop self efficacy in individuals. However, this is not always true.
Sometimes entrepreneurship education can also have a negative impact. Particular combination of
personal, perceptional and situational factors can lead to entrepreneurship education actually
decreasing the level of entrepreneurial intentions. Researchers like Fayolle et al (2006) and
Brockner et al (2004) have suggested that education programs can have a counter effect too.
Nevertheless, my personal belief is that entrepreneurship education has a positive impact on
entrepreneurial self efficacy.
Earlier reviews on the entrepreneurship education reveal that entrepreneurship education should
take the action learning or experience oriented learning approach in order to increase the

Dr. Strangelove And The Cold War
The Cold War was a period of several decades of tension and the threat of nuclear conflict
between the two remaining superpowers that emerged from WWII, the U.S. and the Soviet Union.
The 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, directed
by Stanley Kubrick, depicts the overlying themes of the Cold Warin a comedic fashion. This film s
full embodiment of the Cold War is seen through its representation of the time period, and the sheer
competitiveness between the United States and Russia. Additionally, due to many of Kubrick s
movie decisions, the film has helped society acknowledge and understand the pure absurdity that
the topic of nuclear destruction holds. In Dr. Strangelove, General Jack D.... Show more content on

General alone goes rogue and sends the missiles toward Russia.
The film delves into some of the difficult options leaders have to choose from in cases involving
nuclear weapons. Nuclear conflicts are very complex, with many scenarios that could
potentially occur. After General Ripper has directed his plane to bomb the enemy, he describes
his thought process to one of his officers, ...when [the president s advisors] realize there is no
possibility in recalling the wing there will be only one course of action: open, total commitment .
Later, General Buck Turgidson, one of the President s top advisors, echoes this exact idea in the
war room and proposes to the U.S. President a full commitment. This was one possible solution
that could have neutralized all of Russia in one wave of nuclear missiles; however, this strategy is
frowned upon and dismissed by the President as it would reflect poorly on the U.S. diplomatic
reputation in the long run.
An aspect of the Cold War that Kubrick focuses on is the blatant lack of trust between the
conflicting nations. In a scene where a Russian ambassador is being brought into the war room,
General Turgidson is disturbed by having all of the U.S. plans open in front of the enemy. He
exclaims to the U.S. President, Sir, you can t let him in here. He ll see everything. He ll see the big
board! Suddenly, the camera turns back and

What Is Your Goal In Life Essay
As a young woman in today s society, I am constantly told to live in the now. This phrase is

realize the importance of setting goals in my life. This is not only because I want my life to have a

The Valley Of The Shadow Archives
The Valley of the Shadow The Valley of the Shadow archives is an online database that has digitally
archived diaries, letters, and newspapers from two neighboring counties, Augusta County, Virginia
and Franklin County, Pennsylvania during the Civil War era in the United States. Separated by the
Mason Dixon Line, a line which marked the geography between southern slave states and northern
free slave states, disconnected the southern Augusta County and the northern Franklin County. The
archives focus on the Pre war, war time, and post war views of the Counties inhabitants based on
religion, economy, family life, and their controversial views on slavery. These insights give modern
day historians the ability to piece together what life was actually like for the residents of the
opposing Counties. One of the most influential controversies between the north and the south is the
abolition of slavery, the north being for the freeing of slaves, and the south being for the retention
and expansion of slavery. The economic stability that slavery provided for southern states was a
driving force for the southern front, while the concept of emancipation drove the northern front to
fight for the abolition of slavery all together. This ultimately leads to the Southern succession from
the Union and spawns the Civil War, thus separating Augusta and Franklin County. Therefore, the

Fantastik is currently the market leader with 37.9% and has an extremely loyal consumer base

positioning by the company. One main advantage Fantastik holds is there is a current trend for
consumers being more green conscious which makes the product more attractive. This is why

This leads into the next issue their organization faces, which is their lack of informing the
consumers of their product benefits. The Fantastik cleaners are the only ones on the market that
are 100% safe for the environment. With such a competitive advantage over their competitors,
they have to be able to bridge this communication gap they currently have with consumers,
because many of them are unaware of Fantastik s triple bottom line goals. In order to help build
brand awareness, they have to advertise more to their target segments. But one of the issues is
Fantastik s advertising budget has decreased from $1,375,000 in 2005 to $825,000 in 2006.
Fantastik also has the problem of lacking diversity in their product line. Although they have five
different cleaners, all of them are fairly similar and many consumers would not be able to tell their
differences other than the price.

Gloria that presented a different problem each time. The goal of experiencing each type of therapy
session was to figure out what therapy style out of the three best helped Gloria.
The first therapy style Gloria was introduced to was Person Centered Therapy and the therapist
was Carl Rogers. Viewing Rogers at my own viewpoint, for the time period, he seems unbelievable.

The kind of therapy was very much less confrontational when compared to Gestalt Therapy as well
as a lot more talking. Ellis guided the conversation more and tended to ask questions that involve
her expressing herself less compared to the other two kinds of therapies. My first impression of
this kind of therapy was very negative, for some reason I believed that it was not quite beneficial
for Gloria, however, when I watched it a second time, I realized that my interpretation was
different and that this therapy and the advice from the therapist was actually benefit Gloria. The
connection between the two seemed to start off quick because Gloria was actually a fan of his
book but really seemed to firm was when Ellis brought up the mangled arm it really seemed like
they were on the same level. I believe that this session overall helped Gloria thinking more and
caused her to take more actions especially because of the homework assignment that Ellis said he
would give her if she was his client. What really shown me that the session was beneficial for
Gloria was when Ellis said assume the worse . When Ellis said this, Gloria pulled out a cigarette
which to me says that his words are getting to her and making her think because I have noticed that
she seems to smoke when she feels nervous or pressured and needs to calm down. Thus, this means
that she is trying to think through Ellis s

Violence And Death In Romeo And Juliet
Is Romeo and Juliet a Shakesperian play full of love at first sight or just rash and consequential
decisions? In this play we meet two star crossed lovers who meet at a party on one night and
then, almost instataneously, plegde themselves for each other and plan to marry, which then
leads to six people dying including themselves. Romeo and Juliet should have taken it slow with
their affairs in order to eliminate the violence and death that ensued from them falling in love,
encourage a healthier road to peace in order to unite both families, and to better encourage a
more joyful relationship, as mentioned by Friar Lurence. Juliet and Romeo s love at first sight
isn t as sweet as it first seems, as it leads into their own and three other character s,Tybalt, Paris,
Lady Montague and Mercutio, deaths. O Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio s dead!...This shall
determine that .They fight; TYBALT falls (I,i,78 93). Mercutio is slain by Tybalt, which is then
slain by Romeo. If Romeo had not been married to Juliet things might have turned out differently
for both characters. If Romeo had been less haste, the chances of this brawl of ever ocurring in the
first place would have been much lower, thus saving the lives of two very important characters of
this play. Both families have been at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When these two characters fall in love, they rush themselves to marry without consulting their
parents directly or taking in the fact that their families are at war , which they should have since
this eventually leads to several deaths, including theirs. These two lovers are a prime example of
how you cant live your life being completely irrational and spontaneous, but instead everything,
including love, should be taken with moderation, or else the consequenses might not be ideal as
we see in the best comedy/tragedy play of all

California Drought Research Paper
One of the biggest world problems in California is water and how bad of a drought we are in. In
2011 our water level was average as we move on in the years you can see a dramatic change from
2011 to 2015. Also during the time from 2011 to 2015 63 trillion water was wasted according to
an article by Nick Kirkpatrick. The water has become such a great concern that Californiais now
starting to put water restrictions for residents that live in california. Such as only being able to
water 2 times a week, will be charge if seen wasting water such as car washes, broken sprinkler, etc.
Although there is really no way of bringing water or forcing it in California I have ideas that we
can work with from what we have already.
Although there are many

Greasy Lake Stereotypes
These bad kids with leather jackets, toothpicks in their mouths, and shades at all times. Tough,
scary looking boys, stereotyping what bad is and that they do nothing but crazy, stupid things.
Bad is what all boys are, they are up to no good, they drink, rape, and fight. As lost as these kids
are, they feel like they belong nowhere, but they find a place, a place called Greasy Lake and
there they want to find an escape. Realize that Greasy Lake is not all that fun anymore, these boys
pretend to be rebels to be crazy teens, keeping the stereotypes about teens alive. With that, they
start to do horrible events, start fighting a stranger, raping a woman, and destroying their car.
Scared and afraid they all disappear to the forest and end up

How It Feelings To Be Colored By Zora Neale Hurston
Critical response essay How it feels to be colored written in 1972 by Zora Neale Hurston is a
very descriptive piece in which the author, talks about what it was like growing up in all black
community where she felt no race, until stepping into a more mixed and diverse environment.
Surrounded by more people of the white origin, where she begins to feel the feeling of being
different Colored . Neale uses a very descriptive word choice and attention grabbing metaphors to
help portray her belief That it doesn t matter the shade nor colorof an individual s skin, when judged
based on personal morals and the desire of one s wellbeing we do not differ so much at all and in
fact we all share similar characteristics. Zora helps bring to light the social indifferences a colored
personmay have felt in those times. I believe her work helps portray that given the short end of
the stick, life is what you make it; and how you perceive things. Once an individual has self
happiness theirs not a person or thing that can take that away from them. Neale s work how it
feels to be colored me takes place in Eatonville, Florida where Zora the main character outlines her
journey from a curious little colored girl, into a self assured, independent Black woman. Growing
up in an environment where white peoplewere just persons that passed through town heading to and
from their destination. Words were never exchanged between

The Thousand And One Nights And The Decameron
Women used to be seen as below men and were not given equal opportunities that men were.
Authors started to write books and stories to show that women can be put in situations where they
break adversity and show their worth against men. Men used to believe that they were above
women at all times and that no matter what they could do what they would like to a womanand not
be questioned, and this is where genderroles and social norms started to be a huge factor in
everyday life. In both the thousand and one nights and the Decameron, women are seen as not
worthy of much and are seen as being downgraded in many situations. Even though certain social
norms and behaviors are portrayed in the thousand and one nights and the Decameron, there... Show

In the Decameron, women are viewed as powerless, but if the reader reads between the lines they
will see that women hold most of the power because the wife still gets her way and the husband is
left alone. The roles are evident for both men and women and that is whatever the man wants
usually is what happens, except for the suicide attempt. In both the Decameron and the thousand
and one night s women have certain roles set about women, which include that women are under
men and should always do what the man says.
In the thousand and one nights, women can be seen as degrading themselves while doing the act
of cheating. After King Shahrayar witness his wife cheating on him, he told his brother that No
one is safe in this world. Such doings are going on in my kingdom and in my very palace. Perish
the world and perish life! (560) This proved that he did not respect women anymore because his
wife was cheating on him in his own area, and this was a representation of his wife degrading
herself since she looked for other sources of love and feelings. The action of cheating showed that
women cheat on their husbands to take revenge because of the unfair and unrightfully treatment
that they are put through. After the cheating, the King sees down on women because of how he
was treated. This

The City Of Angkor And The Khmer Army
The City of Angkor
The City of Angkor was part of the Khmer Empire which was located in Southeastern Asia and
there was a civilisation there between the 9th and 15th centuries AD. The City of Angkor started to
decline in the late 14th century AD then eventually collapsed in the 15th century AD. There are a
variety of things that can be learnt about the City of Angkor and the Khmer and Cham armies
fighting methods through the bas reliefs from the Bayon. There are also many different reasons for
the decline of the City of Angkor which include the fact that they people couldn t battle drought and
how much they over worked the land.
What can we learn from the bas reliefs from the Bayon and elsewhere about the fighting methods of
the Khmer and the Cham armies in this period? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Bayon is located at the site of Angkor in Cambodia and is a Khmer temple which is decorated
and possesses examples of bas reliefs. The bas reliefs that are located at the Bayon are mostly
illustrations of the Khmer and Cham fighters at Bayon and multiple other land battles. These
sources also provide evidence of what the fighting methods where of the Khmer and Cham armies
during the period of the Khmer Empire. These illustrations show predominantly the Cham and
Khmer forces fighting on foot but also show them fighting on elephants. The soldiers would also
carry weapons which include spears and clubs. The soldiers who would rider the elephants were
trained very well, they would get a good view of what was happening and have a good progression
of warfare; however the disadvantage of being on the elephant was that you were seen as an easy

Bluest Eye Themes
The novel The Bluest Eye written by Toni Morrison and The novel Never Let Me Go written by
Kazuo Ishiguro are two completely different novels written during different times and for different
purposes. Both novels do not relate to a story, but they relate to the theme which is the theme of
sexual maturity while using a distinctive form of characterization and diction to convey their
interpretation of sexual maturity. The concept is identical, yet the authors unique word choice and
writing style gives the theme a different tone.
The theme of sexual maturity is conveyed through both novels as a subtext or sub theme. The
main characters go through a sexual awaking during their pre teens as if any child would,
creating a sense of realism and authenticity. Kathy goes through her sexual awaking phases as her
feelings grow from a boy that picked her curiosity, growing fond of him as they opened up to each
other. While for Pecola Breedlove her sexual awaking phases was happening when a full grown
man sexually assaulted her. The reasoning behind the theme was to show how girls around this age
try to figure out who they are, who they want to become and indulge in self thinking to find their
own identity.
Although, their difference starts to appear as the novel starts to express the theme. Ishigor s tone is
sweet and innocent filled with blissful ignorance and joy. Their sexual maturity is as innocent as it
can be. As any girl, as they mature, they do not know what to do with her

Examples Of Irony In Fahrenheit 451
Fredrick Douglass said that Once you learn to read you will forever be free . Nothing could be
truer, although it may seem to be false to those who dislike reading. Imagine a world where books
are ban, sounds pretty cool. But when reading a story solely on such a concept, reading a book
seems to be the only thing that would save humanity. In 1950 Ray Bradbury wrote a short story
titled The Firemen for galaxy Science Fiction, which later he turned it into the novel titled
Fahrenheit 451in 1953. Ray Bradbury wrote an amazing book displaying a world in the absence of
books which to this day still draws readers in, because he shows what life would be like if we
continue in a society of censorship. Which is illustrated by his choice to include... Show more

One prime example is explained in the article What Is a Paradox , Consider also the paradox of
Captain Beatty in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451. Books have been banned, and Beatty s job is
to destroy any books he finds, but he is obviously well read because he surrounds himself with
quotations from great literature that he uses to convince people that destroying books is the
right thing to do (What Is a Paradox 1). This is a great use of a paradox, it proves how twisted
the book can be at times because of how misleading Beatty is. In addition another paradox that is
used in The Hearth and Salamander the article Themes, Motifs and Symbols helps to explain,
...Montag s bedroom is described first as not empty and then as indeed empty, because Mildred is
physically there, but her thoughts and feelings are elsewhere (Themes, Motifs and Symbols 2).
While reading something such as that in the book it may be confusing, but if you interpret the not
so obvious meaning it can be very insightful. Furthermore from the same article Themes, Motifs
and Symbols the use of a paradox is showing though another example involving Mildred;
Bradbury s repeated use of such paradoxical statements especially that a character or thing is dead
and alive or there and not there is frequently applied to Mildred, suggesting her empty, half alive
condition (Themes, Motifs and Symbols 2).

Auditory System Papers
The Auditory System
The Auditory System is an incredibly complex organ system, because it not only allows us to
hear, but it also allows us to keep a sense of balance. The Auditory sound travels thru the air in the
form of sound waves. Our ears detect these sound waves and relays them to the brain, The Auditory
System is a complex system that transmits the sound waves into electric pulses that our brain can
understand as sound. The Auditory System is composed of 3 different parts, the Inner, Middle, and
Outer Ear.
The Outer Ear is split into two components, the Pinna and the Tympanic cavity. The Pinna is the
fatty cartilage that is visible on both sides of the head. The Pinna s main function is to capture
sound waves and redirect them towards the ear canal, but to also protect the tympanic cavity. The
Ear Canal functions as an entryway for sound waves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inner ear consists of a complex series of tubes, running through the temporal bone of the skull.
Inside these tubes are a lot of smaller, more fragile tubes. The vestibular system is the region of the
inner ear where the semicircular canals converge, close to the cochlea. The vestibular system works
with the visual system to keep objects in view when the head is moved. Joint and muscle receptors
are also important in maintaining balance. The brain receives, interprets, and processes the
information from all these systems to create the sensation of balance. The Inner ear is where the
vibrations from sound waves turned into electric pulses that our brains can understand as sound.
The cochlea is responsible for turning the vibrations into electric pulses, in a process called
transduction. When the footplate of the stapes connects to the oval window, it causes the perilymph
to move. The cochlea propagates these mechanical signals as waves in the fluid and membranes,
and then converts them to nerve impulses which are transmitted to the

College Is The Third Greenest College Of America By...
Oberlin college is ranked as the 4th greenest college in America by popularmechanics.com, and it
makes sense. It incorporates sustainability into its curriculum, but it also uses brand new
technologies, such as solar panels and electric cars. Campuses that are more sustainable seem to
have two main characteristics. The first is they are often in more rural settings, and usually use this
setting to their advantage, by having big farms and creating nature reserves. The second is that
they invest in more environmentally friendly technology before other colleges. Most colleges in
the United States are attempting to become more sustainable, but many are taking the wrong
approach to doing so. For example, USC is making efforts towards becoming more sustainable, and
while some of these efforts are valid, many merely appear to be so that USC market itself as more
sustainable. Colleges that put an emphasis on using new, more sustainable technologies tend to be
more sustainable than those that simply try to spread the ideas of sustainability. While creating an
environmentally conscious student body is important, it may not be achievable everywhere.
Right now, the most sustainable schools are in rural environments. This becomes quite evident by
looking at popularmechanics.com s top 10 most sustainable schools ranking; almost all of the
colleges on this list have many acres of campus, located in the outskirts of a small town or city.
Many of these college have sustainability classes

The story was written in the third person point of view and it describes about the dangerous things that wait for the inexperienced Billy Weaver, when he wants to stay at a strange boarding house. He does distinguish some peculiarity in her conduct, yet he merrily puts it down to her being somewhat dotty , and nothing else. Despite the fact that he considers the vanishing of the two visitors that stayed there before him a vanishing that made the news he regards it as a captivating puzzle instead of as a clue of danger. Youthful honesty, then, is another main theme of the book; The way how youthful, blameless trusting natures are exploited by more elderly, more naughty and evil minds. (Bingoffsky) Roald Dahl utilizes metaphors as a part of the story, it isn t all the time I have the delight of taking a guest into my small nest . • 3. Depression And Dementi Depression Several studies have shown links between depression and dementia. Brommelhoff, Johansson, Fratiglioni, Gatz, McArdle, Pederson state, there are three hypotheses that might explain the association (Jorm, 2001). The first is that depression is a symptom that indicates the onset of dementia, also known as a prodromal feature. The second is that the two are independent illnesses; however, depression causes cognitive deficits, which lead to an earlier onset of dementia. The last argues that depression causes damage in the hippocampus, which then leads to dementia. Some studies have found depression to be a prodrome of dementia. One specifically found that depression arises due to neuropathological damages during the course of dementia, and another showed that people with late onset depression had greater frontal lobe atrophy than controls and those with early onset depression. On the other hand, it has been shown that a history of depression increases the risk of dementia later in life. There is some evidence that the earlier the onset of depression, the greater the likelihood is of developing dementia later; however, this only held true in individuals with little education. The disagreement and contradiction in previous studies call for further experimentation, primarily to determine whether a history of depression significantly predicted the likelihood of having dementia later in life (Brommelhoff et al., 2009). Researchers examined the difference in the number of years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many organizations solicit members through. Their corporate newsletter, electronic mail, or a personal letter sent from the president/CEO inviting participation. Team members selections should be considered from a group of employees who have expressed an interest in better understanding homeland security and using the Baldrige Criteria as a template for improving their organization s homeland security infrastructure. Once teammembers have been selected, it is recommended that an assessment workshop be conducted by the assessment team administrator or team participants who have an understanding of homeland security issues and the Baldrige Criteria. The workshop may include using a case study for the team to practice identifying organizational strengths and opportunities for improvement in at least one or two categories. During the workshop, the team will discuss each category and determine What does this mean for my organization? • 5. Themes In Fallen Angels, Girl In The Green Sweater And A... All authors use literary devices as intrical parts of their story. Literary devices can include symbolism, motif, theme, mood and more. They all are used to do the same thing; to enhance the reader s experience and the development of the story. For instance, in the stories Fallen Angels, Girl in The Green Sweater, and A Thousand Splendid Suns their authors all use theme as literary devices to furtherly write the story. The themes are loss of innocence, fear, and the suppression of women. In the end, all of these authors use unique, realistic themes throughout their story. To begin, the story Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers has a very common theme. This theme used is the loss of innocence. In other words, it is when time passes and someone starts to grow up, they start to realize that nothing is perfect. Also, it is usually thought of as an experience or period in a child s life that widens their awareness of evil, pain, or suffering in the world around them. The story Fallen Angels takes place during the Vietnam War. The main character, Richie Perry, decides to join the war. He is only seventeen; with that being said, the theme of losing innocence fit perfect with this novel because all of the characters are still young and as they go through war, they understand what life is really like. The novel explains the loss of innocence only within a squad of soldiers fighting in Vietnam, Perry being one of them. Lastly, Walter Dean Myers used theme in a very interesting way. His theme was occurred only in a certain group of characters as the story moved on and on. To continue, the themes in the story Girl in The Green Sweater by Krystyna Chiger and Daniel Paisner was fright and loss of innocence, as well. The overall novel was written in Krystyna s point of view of a small town of Jews surviving the Holocaust. Krysha, her family, and some of the other families within the small town of Lvov snuck into the underground sewers to hide from the Nazis. Chiger explained that they lived in the dark, with floods, fires, sicknesses, and death. They were always fearful that they would be discovered. They hid their for 14 months. • 6. Cod Chapter Summary I chose the book Cod: A Biography of the Fish That Changed the World. As the title suggests, and the author, Mark Kurlansky, explores, a simple fish, more specifically, cod, has an importance that has been proven throughout history. The prologue is set in Petty Harbour, a town in Newfoundland and tells a story of three experienced fishermen, Sam, Leonard, and Bernard. They are participating in the Sentinel Fishery which was an attempt to help scientists and fishermen work together to measure the supply of cod. Their boat was to catch as many cod as they could and measure and tag them. A second boat was to catch exactly 100 cod and open them to identify their age and sex. For three men who fishingwas their life hobby, you would think this would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As outlined in this assignment, a hazard is defined as an object, condition, or process that threatens individuals and society in terms of production or reproduction. I would like to suggest that the process of overfishing is a hazard that this book unfolds throughout history. Overfishing is simply when cod are caught at a faster rate than they can naturally reproduce. The author suggests that man is part of the natural world and the two can t separate themselves, and in this case the activity of overfishing is driven by man. Cod provided a source of protein and a financial stability to many nations. As populations increased, the demand for cod increased, and consequently the industry became competitive in nature. Because of this, fishing for the Atlantic cod became commercialized, and although nations modernized at different speeds, the goal for all was to catch more. As early as 1815, the French used the technique of longlining. Although it was expensive because of the amount of bait that was used, it was the first advancement from handlining and allowed for numerous fish to be caught at once. From there, bottom dragging became popular and although it was an effective method of catching a lot of cod at once, it was also damaging to other fish that got caught in the net. In addition to improved techniques, curing methods advanced and freezing methods were developed. Technology advancements included the chronometer and telegraph which both improved navigation, and sonors and spotter aircraft aided in spotting cod schools. Fishing boats advanced from oars and sails to steam powered to motorships. All of these advancements aided in the overfishing, and consequently became a hazard. Scientists argue that you can t predict nature and there is no way to tell if and when, as well as, how long it will take to replenish the codstock. For this reason, I suggest overfishing to be a hazard. The depletion of cod has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms Although, Canada offers comparable qualities and values with other countries, The Charter of Rights and Freedoms really separates Canada from other social liberties enactments. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms upholds the diversity of differing qualities of Canadian culture and assures the freedom of individuals that lengthens boundaries apparent to the constitutionalized law. • 10. Socrates Tragedy An Innocent Tragedy The trial of Socrates is well known throughout the modern world. It is a historical event that ties together philosophy, literature, and law. However, do we stop to consider whether or not Socrates was truly guilty of the crimes he was accused with. I believe Socrates was innocent on all charges, since he sufficiently proved that he did believe in the gods and was not corrupting the youth. One of the accusations brought against Socrates is he disregards the gods of the state, instead teaching purely physical explanations for heavenly and earthly phenomena, which are typically explained by the doings of the gods. Socrates refutes this claim by stating that he has no knowledge in the field of scientific explanations. This is pre Socratic philosophy, which Socrates states he has never taught. He asks the jury Tell one another, then, whether any of you has ever heard me discussing such subjects, either briefly or at length; and as a result you will realize that the other things said about me are equally baseless. (Pojman 37) Socrates goes on to rebut the first part of the accusation by explaining that while he does not necessarily believe in the gods of the state, he does believe in a higher god. Socrates argues that he cannot believe in one god without believing in other gods as well. So, although he may not directly believe in the gods of the state, he acknowledges the fact that such gods must exist. He points out the paradox in his accusers statement ... With the Railroad and Train, trade was evolved and goods could be transported fresher and faster.(Savery,Thomas 47,48) 2. Another Influence of the Steam Engine was the lack of transportation. Before the Steam Engine transportation was limited to only a horse and carriage which moved very slowly. (Pursell, C.W.) Conclusion These influences of the steam engine helped make what America is today as a superpower and shaped our economy for the future. Although there were many other important figures and inventions that positively influenced America and the Civil War, the Steam Engine is still one of the most important ones. The Steam Engine evolved trade and transportation forever from switching the standard choice of transportation from a Horse and Carriage to a Locomotive that was capable of carrying many people. It also changed the way trade was looked at by decreasing the amount of time goods and supplies took to reach their destination. The transcontinental Rail Road made it possible for trade to be delivered promptly and efficiently. • 16. Building Elements Of A Successful Team Proactive Planning In meetings requested by managers, various agendas are discussed and explained. Of them, the plan to establish self directed and high performance teams is spotlighted. The company needs to establish a team that combines the different talent and work performance of its employees in order to accomplish a particular goal and purpose. Concerns arise when some of the company s managers are experiencing some teams that are self directed and high performing, while others are not. Therefore, discussions are held which aim at familiarizing all employees with what it means to be self directed and high performing. In the process, they brainstorm on ideas like building elements of a successful team. If a manager has not fulfilled the demand of having this type of team, they are focused on as needing more aid in successfully moving forward towards the goal. At the time, those who are struggling are expected to learn from those who are doing well in order for them to identify the mistakes and how to correct them. The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the grammatical structure of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity, as both groups of children construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on the basis of their language specific categories, and not on the basis of some universal, conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor 1998:140 141). This suggests that the children from the two linguistic communities will partly see the world in a different way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions. Instead of being a biological concept, race is a social construct, and a relatively modern one at that. It was created to give light skinned Europeans an advantage by making the white racesuperior and all others inferior. Throughout its history, the concept of racehas served this purpose well. Capitalism And Consumerism Some would say that the advertisers are responsible for building the hype and the consumer is just responding to a once in a lifetime deal (that happens every year). Some have even gone as far as blaming capitalism and the manner in which it functions within our society. If you recall though, James Twitchell blames the consumer and not these other outlets. Some might blame this on capitalism, but one can love the freedom and innovation of capitalism and hate the materialism of consumerism... However this isn t because capitalism promotes consumerism. Capitalism is just an economic system an imperfect one that that reflects the values we put into it, so if we feed it consumerism, that s what we ll get. We, the consumers, are guilty of turning Thanksgiving into a consumerist holiday (Daniel). This isn t to say that everyone that participates in Black Thursday or Friday is guilty of consumerism, maybe they don t have a family to spend the holiday with or maybe shopping with family is there means of spending quality time together. The important thing is that we are all consumers in this society and we must be aware of the production companies ability to trigger that within our brains the need to buy more and more things we don t necessarily need and sometimes even want. The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as the Battle of Greasy Grass, was not a significant battle when comparing death count, but it was a big turning point in the course of American History. George Custer was a widely respected military leader who had rarely lost a battle up until that point. It was a shock to the white population that an Indian tribe had that much power and could beat such a powerful army with such advanced military tactics. George Armstrong Custers arrogance and the already tense relations with the Sioux Indians were the main factors that ultimately contributed to his death in the Battle of Little Bighorn. George Armstrong Custer was born in Ohio on December 5, 1839. He entered the military academy at West Point in 1857. He was not strong academically, but he showed strong leadership qualities at an early age. Custer got into the militaristic mindset early in life. He entered the American Civil War fresh out of West Point and became quite famous as a member of a generation of boy generals known for their aggressiveness. It also tells us that anyone can make his or her dreams come true. His progression from dream interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt is one of the most elaborate stories in the Bible, the Book of Genesis. Joseph was born in a family of 12 boys and Joseph was his father s favorite. Jacob wanted to show everyone how much he loved Joseph and decided to give him coat of many colors. The coat of colors was a prestige gift in Canaan, because it was very expensive back then. Joseph had a dream of 11 sheaves of corn that turned and bowed down to a golden sheaf of corn another dream that was about the sun, moon, and sky with eleven stars bowing down before a bright golden star. He knew that someday he was meant for more things to come that are powerful in his life. This was Gods way to show him that he will be great someday and be a ruler. With the combination of knowing Joseph is Jacob s favorite son and Joseph s dreams of being one that he may be a ruler of some kind, the 11 brothers become very jealous. One day, they decided that they wanted to kill him, but before they get the chance, they came across a couple of Ishmaelite s on their way to Egypt. They decided to sell Joseph as a slave. Theories in the past suggest that education targeted towards entrepreneurship can plays an important role in developing levels of self efficacy. A bulk of researches has been done on how education has affected the entrepreneurial self efficacy among the students. Bandura has said that self confidence in our abilities to successfully perform specific tasks comes from four key sources: mastery experiences, modeling, social persuasion, and judgments of our own physiological states. Thus by providing education that is focused towards developing skills and interest for entrepreneurship, can develop self efficacy in individuals. However, this is not always true. Sometimes entrepreneurship education can also have a negative impact. Particular combination of personal, perceptional and situational factors can lead to entrepreneurship education actually decreasing the level of entrepreneurial intentions. Researchers like Fayolle et al (2006) and Brockner et al (2004) have suggested that education programs can have a counter effect too. One of the most influential controversies between the north and the south is the abolition of slavery, the north being for the freeing of slaves, and the south being for the retention and expansion of slavery. The economic stability that slavery provided for southern states was a driving force for the southern front, while the concept of emancipation drove the northern front to fight for the abolition of slavery all together. Romeo and Juliet should have taken it slow with their affairs in order to eliminate the violence and death that ensued from them falling in love, encourage a healthier road to peace in order to unite both families, and to better encourage a more joyful relationship, as mentioned by Friar Lurence. Juliet and Romeo s love at first sight isn t as sweet as it first seems, as it leads into their own and three other character s,Tybalt, Paris, Lady Montague and Mercutio, deaths. O Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio s dead!...This shall determine that .They fight; TYBALT falls (I,i,78 93). Mercutio is slain by Tybalt, which is then slain by Romeo. If Romeo had not been married to Juliet things might have turned out differently for both characters. If Romeo had been less haste, the chances of this brawl of ever ocurring in the first place would have been much lower, thus saving the lives of two very important characters of this play. Both families have been at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How It Feelings To Be Colored By Zora Neale Hurston Critical response essay How it feels to be colored written in 1972 by Zora Neale Hurston is a very descriptive piece in which the author, talks about what it was like growing up in all black community where she felt no race, until stepping into a more mixed and diverse environment. Surrounded by more people of the white origin, where she begins to feel the feeling of being different Colored . Neale uses a very descriptive word choice and attention grabbing metaphors to help portray her belief That it doesn t matter the shade nor colorof an individual s skin, when judged based on personal morals and the desire of one s wellbeing we do not differ so much at all and in fact we all share similar characteristics. Zora helps bring to light the social indifferences a colored personmay have felt in those times. I believe her work helps portray that given the short end of the stick, life is what you make it; and how you perceive things. Once an individual has self happiness theirs not a person or thing that can take that away from them. Neale s work how it feels to be colored me takes place in Eatonville, Florida where Zora the main character outlines her journey from a curious little colored girl, into a self assured, independent Black woman. Authors started to write books and stories to show that women can be put in situations where they break adversity and show their worth against men. Men used to believe that they were above women at all times and that no matter what they could do what they would like to a womanand not be questioned, and this is where genderroles and social norms started to be a huge factor in everyday life. In the Decameron, women are viewed as powerless, but if the reader reads between the lines they will see that women hold most of the power because the wife still gets her way and the husband is left alone. The roles are evident for both men and women and that is whatever the man wants usually is what happens, except for the suicide attempt. In both the Decameron and the thousand and one night s women have certain roles set about women, which include that women are under men and should always do what the man says. In the thousand and one nights, women can be seen as degrading themselves while doing the act of cheating. After King Shahrayar witness his wife cheating on him, he told his brother that No one is safe in this world. Such doings are going on in my kingdom and in my very palace. Perish the world and perish life! (560) This proved that he did not respect women anymore because his wife was cheating on him in his own area, and this was a representation of his wife degrading herself since she looked for other sources of love and feelings. The action of cheating showed that women cheat on their husbands to take revenge because of the unfair and unrightfully treatment that they are put through. • 48. Bluest Eye Themes The novel The Bluest Eye written by Toni Morrison and The novel Never Let Me Go written by Kazuo Ishiguro are two completely different novels written during different times and for different purposes. Both novels do not relate to a story, but they relate to the theme which is the theme of sexual maturity while using a distinctive form of characterization and diction to convey their interpretation of sexual maturity. The concept is identical, yet the authors unique word choice and writing style gives the theme a different tone. The theme of sexual maturity is conveyed through both novels as a subtext or sub theme. The main characters go through a sexual awaking during their pre teens as if any child would, creating a sense of realism and authenticity. Kathy goes through her sexual awaking phases as her feelings grow from a boy that picked her curiosity, growing fond of him as they opened up to each other. While for Pecola Breedlove her sexual awaking phases was happening when a full grown man sexually assaulted her. The reasoning behind the theme was to show how girls around this age try to figure out who they are, who they want to become and indulge in self thinking to find their own identity. Although, their difference starts to appear as the novel starts to express the theme. Ishigor s tone is sweet and innocent filled with blissful ignorance and joy. Their sexual maturity is as innocent as it can be. As any girl, as they mature, they do not know what to do with her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Examples Of Irony In Fahrenheit 451 Fredrick Douglass said that Once you learn to read you will forever be free . Nothing could be truer, although it may seem to be false to those who dislike reading. Imagine a world where books are ban, sounds pretty cool. But when reading a story solely on such a concept, reading a book seems to be the only thing that would save humanity. In 1950 Ray Bradbury wrote a short story titled The Firemen for galaxy Science Fiction, which later he turned it into the novel titled Fahrenheit 451in 1953. Ray Bradbury wrote an amazing book displaying a world in the absence of books which to this day still draws readers in, because he shows what life would be like if we continue in a society of censorship. Which is illustrated by his choice to include... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One prime example is explained in the article What Is a Paradox , Consider also the paradox of Captain Beatty in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451. Books have been banned, and Beatty s job is to destroy any books he finds, but he is obviously well read because he surrounds himself with quotations from great literature that he uses to convince people that destroying books is the right thing to do (What Is a Paradox 1). This is a great use of a paradox, it proves how twisted the book can be at times because of how misleading Beatty is. In addition another paradox that is used in The Hearth and Salamander the article Themes, Motifs and Symbols helps to explain, ...Montag s bedroom is described first as not empty and then as indeed empty, because Mildred is physically there, but her thoughts and feelings are elsewhere (Themes, Motifs and Symbols 2). While reading something such as that in the book it may be confusing, but if you interpret the not so obvious meaning it can be very insightful. Furthermore from the same article Themes, Motifs and Symbols the use of a paradox is showing though another example involving Mildred; Bradbury s repeated use of such paradoxical statements especially that a character or thing is dead and alive or there and not there is frequently applied to Mildred, suggesting her empty, half alive condition (Themes, Motifs and Symbols 2). ... • 50. Auditory System Papers The Auditory System The Auditory System is an incredibly complex organ system, because it not only allows us to hear, but it also allows us to keep a sense of balance. The Auditory sound travels thru the air in the form of sound waves. Our ears detect these sound waves and relays them to the brain, The Auditory System is a complex system that transmits the sound waves into electric pulses that our brain can understand as sound. The Auditory System is composed of 3 different parts, the Inner, Middle, and Outer Ear. The Outer Ear is split into two components, the Pinna and the Tympanic cavity. The Pinna is the fatty cartilage that is visible on both sides of the head. The Pinna s main function is to capture sound waves and redirect them towards the ear canal, but to also protect the tympanic cavity. The Ear Canal functions as an entryway for sound waves. ... Inside these tubes are a lot of smaller, more fragile tubes. The vestibular system is the region of the inner ear where the semicircular canals converge, close to the cochlea. The vestibular system works with the visual system to keep objects in view when the head is moved. Joint and muscle receptors are also important in maintaining balance. The brain receives, interprets, and processes the information from all these systems to create the sensation of balance. The Inner ear is where the vibrations from sound waves turned into electric pulses that our brains can understand as sound. The cochlea is responsible for turning the vibrations into electric pulses, in a process called transduction. When the footplate of the stapes connects to the oval window, it causes the perilymph to move. The cochlea propagates these mechanical signals as waves in the fluid and membranes, and then converts them to nerve impulses which are transmitted to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. College Is The Third Greenest College Of America By... Oberlin college is ranked as the 4th greenest college in America by popularmechanics.com, and it makes sense. It incorporates sustainability into its curriculum, but it also uses brand new technologies, such as solar panels and electric cars. Campuses that are more sustainable seem to have two main characteristics. The first is they are often in more rural settings, and usually use this setting to their advantage, by having big farms and creating nature reserves. The second is that they invest in more environmentally friendly technology before other colleges. Most colleges in the United States are attempting to become more sustainable, but many are taking the wrong approach to doing so. For example, USC is making efforts towards becoming more sustainable, and while some of these efforts are valid, many merely appear to be so that USC market itself as more sustainable. Colleges that put an emphasis on using new, more sustainable technologies tend to be more sustainable than those that simply try to spread the ideas of sustainability. While creating an environmentally conscious student body is important, it may not be achievable everywhere. Right now, the most sustainable schools are in rural environments. This becomes quite evident by looking at popularmechanics.com s top 10 most sustainable schools ranking; almost all of the colleges on this list have many acres of campus, located in the outskirts of a small town or city. Many of these college have sustainability classes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
