Mayan architecture includes stepped pyramids from the Pre-Classic period. Other important constructions were ceremonial platforms, palaces, temples, ball game courts, and observatories. Main cities include Chichen Itza, known for its diverse architecture; Tikal, the capital of a powerful Mayan kingdom; and Uxmal, representative of Puuc architectural style.
