This presentation was originally developed using the LinkedIn corporate presentation template, available March 2012, with information based on my own experience. Details have been updated using the most current information available from the LinkedIn website as of Feb. 25, 2013. *Not to be republished without explicit written consent.* All LinkedIn branding guidelines have been adhered to – to the best of my knowledge.
Who is this guy? This is a snapshot of my LinkedIn profile.Former president of the Yankee Chapter of IABCCurrently on the IEBIn my professional life, I’ve either managed internal communications in a corporate setting or consulted for the past 12 years.Currently contracting with Intel Corporation, doing some specialized writing projects.I’ve been a LinkedIn *enthusiast* - not a guru – for several years. (BTW, not employed or compensated in any way by the LinkedIn Corporation.)I joined in July 2005 shortly after finishing my graduate degree and starting a new job, because I wanted a better way to stay connected with my network. The idea for the presentation had its origins back in February 2009, when I did some freelance blog work.Wrote a post about how much I love LinkedIn and why others should, too. At that time, I had 438 immediate connections (1st degree) giving me access to 9.2 million professionals. My goal was to reach 500.Now, as you can see, I’ve surpassed that goal: nearly doubling to 834 connections, with access to 14.3 million professionals.
During the course of this presentation I will share with you the many reasons why I love LinkedIn, along with what I’ve learned along the way to help me derive a great deal of value from my efforts and expense.(BTW, all the tips and features I will cover may be accessed with a FREE basic account.)Specifically, this presentation will help you…Put your resume online (on steroids) and stand out among other job seekersBuild a virtual Rolodex that updates itselfTap into millions of connections shared by people you know professionallyGet business intelligence on competitors, clients, or your next employerAcquire research to help you solve work challengesEstablish an online presence so people can easily find youAndy by “help you” I mean “suggest to you what you should do and in some cases how to do it” – I can’t do the work for you.So how will we accomplish all this in the span of a couple hours?
…through an interactive combination of presentation, demonstration, and group dialogue. I’m not the only enthusiast in the room, so if you have something relevant to contribute, please do.So, who exactly do we have in the room?According to the pre-event questions you answered when you registered:interested observer (don't have a profile, but I'd like one), newborn lamb (have a basic profile, but still learning), confident gazelle (have a solid profile, but always on alert), satiated lion (I rule the LinkedIn plains!)]Now that we know our audience, we’ll establish what questions you have.I’ll present some information about LinkedIn – the tool, the online network and the company. Then, I’ll share my Twenty Tips for Maximizing Your LinkedIn ExperienceAlong the way, I probably jump into live demo mode to illustrate a point or provide an answer. And afterward, we’ll wrap with finding answers to any remaining questions and have a group dialogue about whatever is on your mind.AND you’ll get to walk away with a one-page cheat sheet that summarizes my tips and provides details about where to find each function within the tool.I’ll also make my presentation available within my LinkedIn profile for you to download. However, I do ask that, should you choose to use any of my content, you cite it appropriately.Sound good?On to your questions…
