This document discusses four common cinematography techniques used in filmmaking: shot reverse shot, the 180 degree rule, match on action, and eyeline match. Shot reverse shot alternates between shots of two characters conversing to show facial expressions. The 180 degree rule maintains the same spatial relationship between characters during a conversation by keeping them on the same side of an imaginary axis. Match on action cuts between a character's action and the resulting effect. Eyeline match cuts between a character looking at something and then showing what they are looking at. All of these techniques aim to provide clarity for viewers about actions, intentions, and spatial relationships between characters.
